In this Parrothead themed novel, story teller Jimmy Buffett's music drives the protagonist (Gerry Boon, II) via a "haunted radio" in his hotrod Chevy Corvette convertible. New to the ways of the world, Boon would NEVER know that a girl liked him unless she came right up to him and planted a big old smooch on him. Even then, he might NOT still know if she liked him or not.

In this art dictionary like no other, The Art History Babes (the hosts behind the prolific podcast) break down the elitist world of art with definitions of over 300 essential art terms. Art speak is infamously alienating, strange, and confusing as hell. Think stereotypical, stylish art dealers who describe art as 'derivative' and 'dynamic' – or stuffy auction houses filled with portraits of dead white people called 'Old Masters'. What do these words mean? Where did they come from? And how can you actually use them? Spanning art history, iconic movements, peculiar words, and pretentious phrases – after reading this book, you'll be able to lay down that art jargon with the best of them. From avant-garde to oeuvre, the Harlem Renaissance to New Objectivity, museum fatigue to memento mori – the Babes use their whip-smart humor, on-point knowledge, and a heavy dose of candor to explain even the most complex ideas in bite-sized definitions, as in: ACTION PAINTING (n.) – If Jackie Chan had buckets of paint strapped to his arms and legs in Rush Hour 2, and there just happened to be a blank canvas nearby, you would end up with action painting. […] IMPASTO (n.) – Have you ever gotten up close to a painting, looked at it, and thought: “Those brushstrokes are sensual as hell.”? That’s how I feel about impasto, a painting style that involves applying thick, textured strokes of paint using a brush or palette knife or other tool of your choice. […] UKIYO-E (n.) – Beautiful ladies, kabuki actors, epic landscapes, sumo wrestlers, people navigating city streets, and sex stuff! These are some of the common subjects of ukiyo-e art produced in Japan during the Edo period (1603–1868.) […] With illustrations from Carmen Casado – The Honest Art Dictionary is a valuable starter pack for those new to the study of art history, those re-exploring the discipline, or those simply interested in impressing their friends during a trip to the local art museum.
Take that, Roger Goodell. In a season that began with a controversial four-game suspension for their acknowledged leader, Tom Brady, the New England Patriots tuned out the distractions and the enmity to once again do their job better than anyone else. They went 14-2 for the league's best record, then produced a dramatic playoff run that culminated in their fifth world title and a Lombardi Trophy photo op with their archenemy. The Patriots found new heroes - like Chris Hogan and Martellus Bennett - and leaned on old reliables to overcome a controversy that created headlines around the world. Love them or hate them, future Hall of Fame coach Bill Belichick's Patriots - led by future Hall of Fame quarterback Brady - truly rank among the greatest franchises ever. In The Boston Globe's Roger That!: With Fifth Super Bowl Win, Brady and Belichick's Patriots Show Who's Boss, Pats fans can revel in their team's latest historic achievement, as well as relive every moment of the 2016 season and playoffs, from opening kickoff to the hoisting of the Vince Lombardi Trophy. With its vibrant color photographs, essential statistics, memorable quotes, and acclaimed commentary by some of the nation's best sportswriters, this is the ultimate New England Patriots keepsake. Roger That! takes you inside the legacy and behind the scenes on an all-access pass, providing commentary and insights on Belichick, Brady, mastermind assistant coaches Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia, as well as other key contributors on and off the field. And it fully commemorates what Patriots Nation has known for most of the 21st century: This is a team of champions, and these champions are a team for the ages.

When Black Culture and Black Consciousness first appeared thirty years ago, it marked a revolution in our understanding of African American history. Contrary to prevailing ideas at the time, which held that African culture disappeared quickly under slavery and that black Americans had little group pride, history, or cohesiveness, Levine uncovered a cultural treasure trove, illuminating a rich and complex African American oral tradition, including songs, proverbs, jokes, folktales, and long narrative poems called toasts--work that dated from before and after emancipation. The fact that these ideas and sources seem so commonplace now is in large part due this book and the scholarship that followed in its wake. A landmark work that was part of the "cultural turn" in American history, Black Culture and Black Consciousness profoundly influenced an entire generation of historians and continues to be read and taught. For this anniversary reissue, Levine wrote a new preface reflecting on the writing of the book and its place within intellectual trends in African American and American cultural history.
All author royalties from the sale of this book are awarded to the Goldman Family. In 1994, Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson were brutally murdered at her home in Brentwood, California. O.J. Simpson was tried for the crime in a case that captured the attention of the American people, but he was ultimately acquitted of criminal charges. The victims' families brought a civil case against Simpson, which found him liable for willfully and wrongfully causing the deaths of Ron and Nicole committing battery with malice and oppression. Twelve years later, HarperCollins announced the publication of a book in which O.J. Simpson revealed how he would have committed the murders—under the pretense that his confession was “hypothetical.” In response to public outrage that Simpson stood to profit from these crimes, HarperCollins canceled the book. Just one year later, Federal Court Judge A. Jay Cristol awarded the Goldman family the rights to If I Did It. Thus began one of the strangest odysseys in publishing history. Originally written by O.J. Simpson, the Goldmans published a new edition of the book in the fall of 2007, which included essays written by members of the Goldman family, a member of the Goldman family legal team, and O.J.'s ghostwriter that reveal the fascinating story behind the bankruptcy case, the book's publication, and the looming court proceedings, which would eventually lead to his conviction. The book, called “one of the most chilling things I have ever read” by Barbara Walters, skyrocketed up bestseller lists across the country in the months following publication as the national media relentlessly covered O.J. Simpson's dramatic Las Vegas arrest for armed robbery and kidnapping. The Goldman family views the book as his confession and has worked hard to ensure that the public will read this book and learn the truth. This is O.J. Simpson's original manuscript with up to 14,000 words of additional key commentary from those whose lives were forever changed by the heinous crime.
From Harvard's legendary humor publication comes an outrageous, uproariously funny parody of Game of Thrones, in the tradition of their previous bestselling parody book classics Bored of the Rings, Nightlight, and The Hunger Pains. An affectionate but take-no-prisoners send-up of the massive literary and television franchise, Lame of Thrones offers fans a way of reentering the fictional world they have come to love and merrily explodes all of its conventions -- as well as their expectations of the characters -- to hilarious ends. It may even leave you more satisfied than the actual TV ending of Game of Thrones. In fact, if it doesn't the Lampoon has really dropped the ball. Lame of Thrones will take you to Westopolis, where several extremely attractive egomaniacs are vying to be ruler of the realm and sit on the Pointy Chair. Our hero Jon Dough was a likely bet, but his untimely murder at the hands of his own men of the Night's Crotch has made that seem less likely. Will Dragon Queen Dennys Grandslam escape from her Clothkhaki captors and return to conquer the world? Or will she just get left in the desert counting grains of sand for the rest of the book? And what about Jon Dough's siblings? Will they be mentioned? Probably? Almost definitely, yes? It would be weird if they weren't prominent characters in the book, you say? To find out, read the book you wish George R.R. Martin would write but never will. The Lampoon -- the place where such comedy writers and performers as Conan O'Brien, Colin Jost, B.J. Novak, Patricia Marx, Alan Yang, Andy Borowitz and many more all got their start -- is ready to serve parody notice to the most entertaining, infuriating, and inescapable cultural phenomenon of the past decade.
When Appahummie Dotts enters the Cook County Jail, his guilt or innocence is irrelevant to staying alive amid all the violence and chaos headed his way. As an eighteen-year-old, he can hardly believe that he’s in the belly of the beast with grown seasoned criminals- most of them without anything to lose. He weighs 130 pounds soaking wet, but he knows how to protect himself and is smart enough to mind his business. In this dramatized account, the author looks back on how he found himself in the Cook County Jail among killers, robbers, rapists, and drug dealers from all walks of life. He also reveals what it’s like to be in the Cook County Jail fighting for your life. Moreover, he shares the frustration of being in the Cook County Jail, recalling how some days he asked the Lord for strength and if the days would ever change. Each one seemed more miserable than the next, making it that much harder to keep going on.

Longtime readers have come to understand that Outside’s true gift is in chronicling misadventure. The Darkest Places chronicles mysterious disappearances, unsolved murders, and deadly disasters, taking us to far-flung places no sane person would want to go.
We all have our past. It’s what molds us into who we are. The past is something we must live with and learn from. It’s just that, history. When we can learn to stop holding onto it or anxiously dreading something in the future, we can learn to live in the now, break free of confines, and open our hearts to vast possibilities. In Around the Corner, the Soul Twins share their stories and tell how those experiences shaped them. They have been through many life altering circumstances and have been in some very dark places at times. They chronicle their experiences to help soothe others who find themselves in a bad place and those in need of some light in their lives. Offering words of hope and support, Around the Corner communicates the message that no matter what has happened in the past, each dawn of a new day is a clean slate to start over with the life you want to lead. It’s never too late to take control and write your own story. We are all more connected than we have been conditioned to know. You are never alone.
Git-R-Done is chock-full of fart jokes and straight talk about America. I sat down one day and said to myself, “Larry, you’ve done it all. You’ve got three gold records, a successful DVD, a hit TV show, a picture of Shania Twain givin’ ya the finger, and most important, the high score on Frogger. What more could you possibly do?” Then I started thinking about writing a book. I wanted mostly to write Git-R-Done for all those good Americans who just wanna laugh like I do. Come on inside and hear me make fun of Janet Reno, Rosie O’Donnell, and my fat sister, who caused a twelve-tray pileup in front of the caramel nut rolls at the country buffet. I’m gonna tell you why Dick Trickle is my hero, why we need to get back to good ol’ common sense, and why I prefer a picture of the Last Supper with NASCAR drivers as the disciples over just about anything. Lord, I apologize! The book will go down in history as one of America’s most important events since the breakup of Aldo Nova. Even my mom liked the book—here’s what she said: “There’s really not much I can say here except for I apologize to everyone ahead of time for the crap you are about to read.” Git-R-Done is just plain funny, I don’t care who ya are! Also available as an eBook.
