Pryor Creek, originally named Coo-y-yah (Cherokee for "huckleberry"), incorporated as a city in 1894. Also known as Pryor by the US Postal Service, it is located in northeastern Oklahoma and is the seat of Mayes County. The community is rich with history that dates back to its early days as Indian Territory, where many early residents settled after suffering a grueling journey on the Trail of Tears from the old Cherokee Nation. After starting as a rural farming community, with the addition of the railroad in 1870 Pryor Creek grew to become a major industrial economic force in the region following World War II. During the war, the area was home to a massive ammunition ordnance plant, which eventually became the largest industrial park in Oklahoma. In 1942, Pryor Creek's downtown business district was destroyed by the fifth-deadliest tornado in Oklahoma history. Pryor Creek is also a "gateway" known for its regional lakes and recreational areas.

This history takes factual information provided by encyclopedias and other historical documents. Other reference material includes birth certificates, death certificates and census data which support the factual basis of this history. The war records and military history of individuals and their family members were also used in the determination of their contributions to the society in which they lived. Other research material included Wikipedia, Ancetry.com, wikitree.com, genealogy.com family bibles and my many brothers and sisters. Two directions of ancestry history were investigated to gain the most effective approach to the design of this history. First the genealogy of Amye Grenville was traced to her origin of Charlemagne. Her marriage to John Drake VI allowed further investigation into his ancestry. Both were thoroughly pursued with vigor to determine their origins over the last 1300 years. The investigation provided by Earl Drake combined with my efforts has provided this history for your enjoyment.

Upstream nymph fishing has developed from the minor tactic of G.E.M. Skues into a universally-accepted method wherever fly fishermen fish for brown trout and grayling. The history of nymph fishing is notable for the argument between F.M. Halford, the dry-fly ultrapurist, and Skues, culminating in the debate on the legitimacy of fishing nymphs on chalkstreams and the later fallout between Frank Sawyer and Major Oliver Kite. For the first thirty years of the twentieth century, nymph fishermen were held in contempt and often considered little better than poachers on many chalkstreams. Nymph fishing started and was developed in England and then spread, along with nymph patterns, around the world through the writings of Skues and others and the travels of English anglers. Over the last fifty years, the English method has been adapted and developed to suit local conditions, particularly in the United States.
