One class of advanced English students and another class of English learners come together to put their thoughts and secrets of life into an anthology through the use of short, personal narratives. These undiscovered teen writers discuss a wide range of life’s important issues, such as young love, surviving in a new country, learning a new language, losing a family member, and many more. Consisting of mostly minority students, this group battles through and conquers some of life’s more challenging obstacles hidden in the everyday living of California’s valley of Kern County. Writing from the classroom of their English teacher, Mr. Tripp, these Golden Valley High School students truly represent their school through their honest and sincere golden writing.
During the twilight evening, Theodore London walks his college campus with suicidal thoughts brought on by his present life, remembering the simple memories of his youth. He realizes that he misses the innocence of days gone by. Theodore is thinking about how he will kill himself- and he has thirteen pills in his pocket to accomplish the deadly task- when he sees a young girl who appears as a ghostly figure in the distance. When he meets Celeste, an eccentric, young college student, a supernatural relationship grows between the two. They enjoy time together discussing classic literature, and they spend hours talking, laughing, and sharing little secrets from their pasts. Even though Celeste senses that her time on earth is rapidly running out, she teaches Theodore how to live in a sometimes-confusing world by trusting in God's plan. For the first time, he begins to understand faith. With Celeste and his best friend Silas at his side, Theodore faces some of life's most challenging hardships as he fully transitions to adulthood. He learns to trust God and to take comfort in heartfelt truth.
