Theatrical performance is the most ephemeral of arts. Once a production closes, the living work of art disappears. Fortunately, some productions leave behind enough evidence to reconstruct in words and pictures what a performance was like and to conjecture what the audience saw and heard. Between 1889 and 1995 in America, productions of Sophocles' Electra became the project of some of the most significant directors, actresses, and producers of their day. In reconstructing eleven major productions, this book seeks to accomplish two goals: first, to preserve, albeit in imperfect written form, the productions themselves; and, second, by tracing the history of Electra's production, to highlight some of the most pivotal figures in the development of American theater, including several key women often neglected by theater historians. Along the way, for those who celebrate Greek tragedy in production, this book will allow the reader to sit vicariously in the audience and enjoy eleven Electra productions on the American stage. E. Teresa Choate is an Associate Professor and Assistant Chair at the Department of Theatre in the School of Visual and Performing Arts at Kean University.

Highlighting the importance of reading and re-reading the Latin American canon in the United States, Longo finds that literature can be an instrument of progressive social change, and argues that small literary presses--City Lights, Curbstone, and Seven Stories--have made that dissent visible in the United States. Locating the work of artists and writers alongside that of scholars and legal advocates, Visible Dissent not only unveils the staying power of committed writing, it honors the cross-currents and the on-the-ground implications of humane political engagement."--Page [4] of cover.

This journey through Teresa’s life and writings will engage readers for a full year, with carefully chosen daily selections from the broad range of her writings—letters, poems, memoirs, as well as spiritual and theological musings. Everyone can reach this love through meditation, prayer, sacrifice and an intense inner life." - Mother Teresa
Originally written for her sisters in the order that she had belonged to, St. Teresa lays out a book of advice to attain true communion with God. Although some of the chapters feel like rules rather than guidance, the steps within this book help to draw us closer to god via prayer, meditation and silence. Many times in our loud world we try to show our closeness with God via loud exclamations of what our Lord is doing but St. Teresa shows a different and heartfelt way of meditating on God's word in a silent nature allowing us to see that relationship with God is a private thing that no one has any say over except God himself and His word.
“A tireless communicator of the gospel…[Teresa of Ávila] opens new horizons for us, she calls us to a great undertaking, to see the world with the eyes of Christ, to seek what He seeks and to love what He loves.” —Pope Francis Although Teresa of Ávila lived five centuries ago, her superbly inspiring classic on the practice of prayer is as fresh and meaningful today as it was when she first wrote it. Teresa’s strong desire throughout is to lead readers into a deeper and prevailing life of prayer. She begins with a treatment of the three essentials of the prayer-filled life—fraternal love, detachment from created things, and authentic humility. Building on that foundation, she then teaches on the cherished practices of prayer and contemplation. Finally, she provides a detailed and moving discourse on the Lord’s Prayer. Experience the fervent devotion of St. Teresa, and allow her to help you explore the rewarding discipline of contemplative prayer.
