Forever Tandem tells the Foreign Service story of David and Teresa (Chin) Jones, who from vastly different backgrounds found both each other and U.S. foreign policy as life-long and life-enhancing commitments. Theirs were not exotic careers in deepest/darkest Forgottenstans but rather ones devoted to intense work in politico-military arms control, science policy, economic negotiations, intelligence, and political analysis. Not the least of their accomplishments was raising three daughters, who trained as engineers and are subduing the twenty-first century with the best of both heritages: Davids dimples and Teresas brains.

There were four individuals with a plan, two men released from a Sanitarium, two others farthest from wealth, all in need of a Christmas miracle. Their plan was to change the future of one man, Ebenezer Scrooge. Some may have had their reasons, but none as good as the brother in law of Ebenezer Scrooge, Charles. After Charles wife dies giving birth to their son, he becomes lost in a world without her. Charles sisters think him insane, release him to a sanitarium and take his son, Fred, to raise until Charles is well again. At Williams Sanitarium, Charles falls into a deep delirium and wakes seventeen years later to the cries of a child. Charles feels the guilt of a father who longs for his son, along with his bodys addiction to the drug laudanum and the fear of possibly falling into that same delirium again. Charles befriends the largest man hes ever seen, named John. A man who has his own demons to deal with. Charles is given back his past, by reading letters his sisters had sent him spanning the last seventeen years he had lost. Both men become mesmerized by the letters as the sisters tell of Freds childhood to adulthood and Ebenezers wrath on humankind. Because of overcrowding, both men are released from Williams Sanitarium. Charles returns to the home he once knew, which brings him memories of his wifes death and the whispers of her ghost. Charles feels suchhostility toward Ebenezer for his hatefulness towardshis son Fred. Charles concocts a plan, and enlists the help of Peter Cratchit and the child of Ebenezers old love. All help in the redemption of Ebenezer Scrooge. Not everything would go according to plan, but the evening's spectacular events branded the hearts and souls of more than just Ebenezer.

My best friend, Josy, had asked me to write a story about a secret she had been keeping for years. I have changed some names to protect the innocent, and the guilty from being held liable. Josy and her family went on a festive Hawaiian cruise for Thanksgiving. They were surprised to hear that one of the most famous celebrities in Hollywood was going to be promoting his newest movie by performing a show. The smiles of a family vacation were shattered when Josy received a viscious injury while lounging at the pool. The ship's security needed to find the answers for Josy, her family, and the passengers on the ship. While recuperating in her state-room, Josy saw what looked to be a baby being thrown into the ocean. Josy’s mothering instinct made her jump into the ocean to save the child. The Hollywood celebrity was walking though the passageway near Josy's door and heard her cries for help, and was soon to participate in the role and adventure of a lifetime.

Pediatrician Plaut, a specialist in asthma treatment (Children with Asthma: A Guide for Parents, not reviewed, etc.), makes no bones about it: A well-informed patient, working with a knowledgeable health-care practitioner, can control his or her disease so completely that 'you will have symptoms no more than two days per week, will rarely miss school or work because of asthma, will rarely require an urgent visit to the doctor or emergency room, and will be able to exercise as long and as hard as anyone else.' Plaut goes on to provide readers-even those suffering frequent severe attacks of the disease-with the tools and an action plan for reaching these goals. He explains the anatomy and physiology of the disease; what asthma medications are available and how to use them (the proper technique when inhaling a medication is vital); and how to monitor and interpret peak flow (a measure of lung function and the most important early indicator of trouble). Plaut then discusses treatment plans in depth and includes clear, well-designed forms for tracking the disease and its treatment, plus a short 'asthma diary' for patients and their physicians. First-rate help, indispensable for those with asthma. ($30,000 ad/promo) ; 336 pg.-
