And on Christmas day at the San Francisco Zoo a terrible and tragic event occurs... T.C. Boyle Stories II comprises three later volumes of short fiction - After the Plague, Tooth and Claw and Wild Child - along with a new collection, A Death in Kitchawank. These fifty-eight stories explore the mundane, the devastating, the figurative and the implausible in a masterful and enthralling collection. T.C. Boyle is a writer at the height of his craft.
This new collection of short stories from T.C. Boyle finds him at his mercurial best. Inventive, wickedly funny, sometimes disturbing, these are stories about drop-outs, deadbeats and kooks. Take the man who shares his apartment with a wildcat won in a drunken bet; the drive-time shock jock hallucinating from sleep deprivation for a publicity stunt; the suburban woman who joins a pack of dogs, eating rabbits and baying at the moon. With a unique deftness of touch and a keen eye for the telling detail, Boyle has mapped the strange underworld of America.

The author also includes facts about the times and places where they lived as well as weaving their life stories into local history when he believes it will add value. Details on living persons is limited or intentionally excluded. Extensive references are included as footnotes and an "all name" index lists each person along with page numbers where they are found.

With the police convinced that Nora’s friend is the culprit, she and Nick begin delving into the dead woman’s past and her provocative tell-all. It soon becomes apparent that the woman had a knack for digging up dirt and wasn’t shy about exposing skeletons in closets, and before long Nora has a seemingly endless list of suspects who were at risk of having their darkest secrets revealed. With a police force intent on throwing the book at Nora’s friend and time running out, she and Nick must outwit a dangerous killer before they take their own secrets to the grave . . . A second volume of collected short fiction—from the bestselling author and winner of the 2015 Rea Award for the Short Story Few authors write with such sheer love of story and language as T.C. Boyle, and that is nowhere more evident than in his inventive, wickedly funny, and always entertaining short stories. In 1998, T.C. Boyle Stories brought together the author’s first four collections to critical acclaim. Now, T.C. Boyle Stories II gathers the work from his three most recent collections along with fourteen new tales previously unpublished in book form as well as a preface in which Boyle looks back on his career as a writer of stories and the art of making them. By turns mythic and realistic, farcical and tragic, ironic and moving, Boyle’s stories have mapped a wide range of human emotions. The fifty-eight stories in this new volume, written over the last eighteen years, reflect his maturing themes. Along with the satires and tall tales that established his reputation, readers will find stories speaking to contemporary social issues, from air rage to abortion doctors, and character-driven tales of quiet power and passion. Others capture timeless themes, from first love and its consequences to confrontations with mortality, or explore the conflict between civilization and wildness. The new stories find Boyle engagingly testing his characters’ emotional and physical endurance, whether it’s a group of giants being bred as weapons of war in a fictional Latin American country, a Russian woman who ignores dire warnings in returning to her radiation-contaminated home, a hermetic writer who gets more than a break in his routine when he travels to receive a minor award, or a man in a California mountain town who goes a little too far in his concern for a widow. Mordant wit, emotional power, exquisite prose: it is all here in abundance. T.C. Boyle Stories II is a grand career statement from a writer whose imagination knows no bounds.
West Chambers, Georgia, was not a large town, but it held close to its own. The town had become somewhat isolated from the outside world. In keeping with that disconnection, conformity was mainstream. If you stood out in appearance or mind-set, you were looked down upon. With this public viewpoint, no one was more out of place than Nathan Kole. As the son of a hero cop, there were many high expectations on his shoulders, but he didn't seem to be living up to any of them in the eyes of the townspeople. He had enough trouble already after a tragedy hit his home, triggering a series of nightmares that he has been unable to escape. The only person he ever confides in is the new girl at his college. Samantha was also a bit of an outcast, not following the popular feminine trends. She, like many others in town, had her own secrets. Erick was born within a dark, secret society led by his wealthy father. Recently discharged from the army, he returns home to the wife chosen for him. Erick's father still holds a tight grip on him even after his imprisonment. When they found the young witch named Jessica holding a book written in a dark language that only Erick could understand, it became apparent that the four of them were connected in some mysterious way. Their journey to discover what ties them together will lead them down a path soaked in blood and paved with the bodies of the unfortunate caught in the crossfire.
Navy football holds a unique place in college athletics as one of the oldest and most prestigious programs the game has ever known. During the 1950s and 1960s, the Midshipmen were nationally recognized by the major bowl games they played and Heisman Trophy-winning players Joe Bellino and Roger Staubach. Although the program struggled mightily to maintain relevancy in subsequent years, Athletic Director Chet Gladchuk kick-started the renaissance of Navy football by hiring Coach Paul Johnson in 2001. The team's current coach, Ken Niumatalolo, once fired by the academy in the dining room of a McDonald's in 1998, returned to become the winningest coach in school history. Author T.C. Cameron charts the story of Navy football and steers readers through the reemergence of an iconic program representing our nation's finest.

Surpassing even loyalty to country, the desire for revenge can sear white-hot and be as addictive and as all-consuming as the strongest opiate. German agents Elsa Gable and Chris Schulte grew up together in a Germany ravaged by the Great War. They became inseparable as they matured into more than friends, more than family. They had a bond no one could destroy, at least that’s what Chris believed until the night of December 2, 1938. Not the typical spy murder mystery, Southern Cross is a unique tale of double agents, espionage, revenge, and murder leading investigators from a morgue in Manhattan to the SS Southern Cross, a passenger liner sailing from New York to Cuba. Forced to use limited resources, a doctor from San Francisco and a young Paris police inspector scramble to uncover a vicious murderer before another passenger is killed, and before the ship docks in Havana and five-hundred travelers flood the pier. If you are one of those people who read the last page first, . . . don’t.

This book was written in jail the old fashion way with pens and paper. I usually write simple gospel songs, but I had six months to serve so why not write a book. The Great Ark is political fiction with a little prophecy thrown in for spice. The story is not about my own case and is not a story taken from real life. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is unintended and unwanted. I live in Roanoke, Virginia, with my lovely wife of 40 years and our adult son Shawn. Most of my time is spent at a small public charity called the Gospel Caf where I serve as director. We have open mic gospel sings on Friday and Saturday nights and work in cooperation with local food pantries. Dinner is at six and singing starts at seven so you have been officially invited. This book in dedicated to the liberty of free men, the rule of law and the changing of Virginias new Civil Commitment laws. Thank you for reading The Great Ark, may God bless you and yours. T.C.
