Understanding the Bible Isn't Just for Grown-Ups! God gave us the wonderful gift of the Bible so we could see what He's like and know Him for ourselves. But what are we supposed to do with the confusing parts? Or the stuff that seems . . . um . . . skippable? By popular demand, here is a kid-friendly edition of The Bible Recap, based on the same reading plan as the original book and podcast. This book will walk you through the entire Bible with simple, one-page recaps that explain each day's passage, plus relatable God Shots that point out what Scripture says about God's character. There are also plenty of fun and helpful illustrations, as well as weekly summaries to reinforce key truths. Each recap takes about three minutes to read. And although the book is set up so you can read the entire Bible in a year, it's okay if you miss a few days or go at your own pace. When you read this book alongside your own Bible (or an audio Bible, if you prefer), you'll begin developing the daily habit of spending time with God. Most important, you'll get to know Him and discover that He's where the joy is!

This is a history of British Columbia’s island children, told in their voices, from their perspectives. Composed of twenty-two stories, Island Kids is a snapshot of a period and place in time. The topics range from quintessentially coastal experiences, like a day at the beach, to stories that deal with serious issues, such as BC’s history of residential schools, but they all remain true to the experience of the children telling the story. At the end of each chapter is a section called “What do we know for sure?” that gives the reader greater depth and context. The stories are written in a dynamic and authentic voice and are aimed at readers aged eight to twelve. Unlike history that has either been fictionalized or told from an adult’s perspective, the Courageous Kids series brings history to kids in their own words. Truly original, Kidmonton, Rocky Mountain Kids, and Island Kids strive to communicate the events and emotions of kids. Please visit www.courageouskids.ca for more information on the whole Courageous Kids series.
See a Clearer Picture of Who God Really Is Scripture is meant to reveal God to us, but sometimes it's hard for us to see Him there. What if all you needed was a new lens? We often look to the Bible for advice on how to live, but when that becomes our focus, it's easy to miss the point of Scripture: to reveal God and His character to us. What does He want to tell us about Himself? He describes Himself as the God of peace. The God who protects. The God of joy. These are truths we can lean on every day of our lives, but we miss the beautiful attributes of God when we look for only ourselves in our Bibles. In this 100-day devotional, trusted Bible teacher Tara-Leigh Cobble explores powerful sections from each book of the New Testament. Each day's reading points toward a name or attribute of God from that passage. These snapshots are dense with theological truth, helping you grow in the truth of His character and rest in His goodness and kindness.

Popular podcaster and self-proclaimed control freak Tara Sun shows how "having everything under control" is overrated--not to mention downright dangerous--and reveals the surprising, lifegiving alternative: only radical surrender to God brings the peace and fulfillment we yearn for. Today's culture is peddling a seductive promise, a message that bombards social media feeds and dominates bestseller lists: you can control your circumstances and achieve any goal through positive thinking, organization, and sheer force of will. But anyone who's tried to white-knuckle their way to self-fulfillment has discovered what lies on the other side of this supposedly empowering message: frustration, disappointment, and exhaustion. Tara knows what it's like to be obsessed with control--all under the guise of the supposed virtues of being self-sufficient, organized, and high achieving. When a battle with severe chronic illness demolished her illusions of control, Tara embarked on a journey of discovering the antidote to the burdensome and ultimately empty myth of control: surrender to the God who cares for us and has an infinitely better blueprint for a life filled with joy, peace, and meaning. Readers will identify how the false promises of control and self-sufficiency have warped their view of themselves, their hopes, and their purpose; learn to trust God--in the big events and the small details of their lives; discover practical steps and strategies for letting go of control and moving forward in faith, even in the face of setbacks and disappointments; and be inspired by examples from Tara's life and from the Bible of the strength and purpose that comes through a lifestyle of surrender. For all those who are exhausted from trying to control their lives and disappointed by their unreached plans, Surrender Your Story is a welcome lifeline that opens readers' eyes to the beauty of a life surrendered to the Master Planner.

Increasingly, educators are recognizing that for children to thrive intellectually they need socially and emotionally healthy classrooms. Conveniently, this is exactly what parents have always wanted for their children--classrooms that offer and grow positive relationships and behavior, emotional self-regulation, and a sense of well-being. Using the guiding principles from Peter Johnston's best-selling professional resources, Choice Words and Opening Minds, Peter and six colleagues began a journey to create just such classrooms--environments in which children meaningfully engage with each other through reading, writing, making, and discussing books. In Engaging Literate Minds, you'll discover how these teachers struggled and succeeded in building such classrooms. Inside you'll find the following: Practical ways to develop a caring learning community and children's socio-emotional competence Powerful teaching practices from real classrooms Engaging ways to encourage inquiry and student agency Suggestions on how to use formative assessment in everyday teaching practices Helpful research behind the classroom practices and children's development Ways to help students inspire and support each other Building a just, caring, literate society has never been more important than it is today. By embracing the ideas and teaching strategies in Engaging Literate Minds, you can help children to become socially, emotionally, and intellectually healthy. Not only do these classroom practices develop the skills to achieve district benchmarks and beyond, they help develop children's humanity.
To bring forth life is a process. Immediately, the womb prepares to receive and nurture the seed. The womb provides safe haven and life source. Upon maturity, the body prepares for delivery. Bones move, ligaments stretch, the birth canal opens to push forth life. But before the matured seed can come forth, there is a laboring. In that laboring and pain, the final stage of the preparation takes place. The laboring is essential for delivery. What an awesome transformation the body makes when it is carrying life. In much the same manner, God transformed my life. There was a maturing, a moving, a stretching and a laboring. Then He delivered me! Share in my transformation. Experience my deliverance. Engaging, compelling and authentic-----------------Your transition of deliverance was a powerful witness to what operating in faith will do. As you transitioned in the book, I felt my faith and confidence in God building as yours did. This book will not only minister to those who have infertility problems but to anyone who needs deliverance. Winner of the 2018 Dr Sona Aronian book prize for Excellence in Armenian Studies In Mattʿēos Uṙhayecʿi and His Chronicle Tara L. Andrews presents the first ever in-depth study of the history written by this Armenian priest, who lived in Edessa (modern-day Urfa in Turkey) around the turn of the twelfth century and was an eyewitness to the First Crusade and the establishment of the Latin East. Although the Chronicle is known as an extremely valuable source of information for the eleventh- and early twelfth-century Near East, neither its guiding structure nor Uṙhayecʿi's motivation in writing it have ever been clear to modern historians. This study elucidates the prophetic framework within which the text was written, and demonstrates how that framework has influenced Uṙhayecʿi's understanding of the time in which he lived.

An exploration into the curation of the self in Western civilization from Da Vinci to Kim Kardashian. In a technologically-saturated era where nearly everything can be effortlessly and digitally reproduced, we're all hungry to carve out our own unique personalities, our own bespoke personae, to stand out and be seen. As the forces of social media and capitalism collide, and individualism becomes more important than ever across a wide array of industries, "branding ourselves" or actively defining our selves for others has become the norm. Yet, this phenomenon is not new. In Self-Made, Tara Isabella Burton shows us how we arrived at this moment of fervent personal-branding. As attitudes towards religion, politics and society evolved, our sense of self did as well, moving from a collective to individual mindset. Through a series of chronological biographical essays on famous (and infamous) "self-creators" in the modern Western world, from the Renassiance to the Enlightenment to modern capitalism and finally to our present moment of mass media, Burton examines the theories and forces behind our never-ending need to curate ourselves. Through a vivid cast of characters and an engaging mix of cultural and historical commentary, we learn how the personal brand has come to be.
“How tragic that this book--set in a Queens, New York, beach town that in real life was devastated by Sandy--has a new relevance. Sarah is a California painter who’s come east for a retreat she hopes will revive her artistic passion. It’s a sheer joy to stay in the company of Ison’s voice. There’s an unlikely relationship at the center, the kind of encounter that could happen only in the summertime suspension of ‘ordinary’ life.” --Karen Russell, O Magazine Rockaway Beach, 2001. Sarah, a painter from southern California, retreats to this eccentric, eclectic beach town in the far reaches of Queens with the hopes of rediscovering her passion for painting. Sarah has the opportunity for a real gallery showing if only she can create some new and interesting work. There, near the beach, she hopes to escape a life caught in the stasis of caregiving for her elderly parents and working at an art supply store to unleash the artist within. One summer, a room filled with empty canvasses, nothing but possibility. There she meets Marty, an older musician from a once-popular band whose harmonies still infuse the summertime music festivals. His strict adherence to his music and to his Jewish faith will provoke unexpected feelings in Sarah and influence both her time there and her painting. Rockaway is a time capsule love letter to a quirky, singular town, in a time before an entire community was brought to its knees in the events about to occur in September 2001, and to an entire town that faced tragedy again when it was summarily devastated eleven years later by Hurricane Sandy.

Motherhood is hard. Really hard. That's why we need a well. For centuries, neighborhood wells served as gathering spaces that provided community and relationships for women. This seven-week Bible study offers a modern day "well" for mothers to gather and experience the God who invites us into a process of spiritual transformation.
Is the Electoral College anti-democratic? Some would say yes. After all, the presidential candidate with the most popular votes has nevertheless lost the election at least three times, including 2016. To some Americans, that’s a scandal. They believe the Electoral College is an intolerable flaw in the Constitution, a relic of a bygone era that ought to have been purged long ago. But that would be a terrible mistake, warns Tara Ross in this vigorous defense of “the indispensable Electoral College.” Far from an obstacle to enlightened democracy, the Electoral College is one of the guardrails ensuring the stability of the American Republic. In this lively and instructive primer, Tara Ross explains: Why the Founders established the Electoral College—and why they thought it vital to the Constitution Why the Electoral College was meant to be more important than the popular vote How the Electoral College prevents political crises after tight elections Why the Electoral College doesn’t favor one party over the other Why the states are the driving force behind presidential elections and how efforts to centralize the process have led to divisiveness and discontent Why the Electoral College is inappropriately labeled a “relic of slavery” Every four years, the controversy is renewed: Should we keep the Electoral College? Tara Ross shows you why the answer should be a resounding Yes!
The powerful secrets in this book are the very steps that Tara used to take herself through a tumultuous time, beginning with the unexpected loss of her husband. With the wave of feelings, emotions, and realizations that came as a result, she made the conscious choice to take on her life and boldly embrace the path of rediscovering the life she has always imagined. In doing so, readers can experience her book through honesty, humor, and bravery. Her story inspires readers to do the same. Following each chapter, she’s included worksheets. So those who choose to can also courageously start their own voyage of creating the life they truly want. This book is your invitation to try something different—to take a leap of faith that your true life is waiting just on the other side of fear.

This, the first of two volumes of Liberty and Union, is a comprehensive constitutional history of the United States from the Anglo-American origins of the Constitution through the colonial and antebellum periods, to the Civil War and the consequent restructuring of the nation. Written in a clear and engaging narrative style, it successfully unites thorough chronological coverage with a thematic approach, offering critical analysis of core constitutional history topics, set in the political, social, and economic context that made them constitutional issues in the first place. Combining a thoughtful and balanced narrative with an authoritative stance on key issues, the authors explain the past in the light of the past, without imposing upon it the standards of later generations. Authored by two experienced professors of History and Law this textbook has been thoughtfully constructed to offer an accessible alternative to dense scholarly works – avoiding unnecessary technical jargon, defining legal terms and historical personalities where appropriate, and making explicit connections between constitutional themes and historical events. For students in an undergraduate or postgraduate constitutional history course, or anyone with a general interest in constitutional developments, this book will be essential reading. Useful features include: Full glossary of legal terminology Recommended reading A table of cases Extensive supporting artwork Companion website Useful documents provided: Declaration of Independence Articles of Confederation Constitution of the United States of America Chronological list of Supreme Court justices
Responsibility and professionalism are increasingly issues of concern for professional associations, employers and educators alike. When bad things happen, professionals are often held personally accountable for complex situations. Professional Responsibility and Professionalism advances our approaches to professional responsibility from individual-centred, virtue-based prescriptions towards understanding and responding effectively to the multifaceted challenges encountered today by professionals working in dynamic complexity. The author applies a sociomaterial examination to specific examples drawn from different professional contexts of practice. She examines important implications for what professional responsibility and accountability might mean individually and collectively, and what it might be becoming when demands increasingly conflict, and when we accept that capacities for action are performed into existence in emergent and precarious webs of both human and non-human forces. The chapters explore some of the most prominent questions in professional responsibility, including: What does professional responsibility, and accountability, mean in the escalating complexities and conflicts confronting today’s professionals? How does professional responsibility become developed and enacted, and through what social and material entanglements? How should responsibility be determined in multi-agency and interprofessional practice? What happens when professional decisions are delegated to software algorithms and diagnostic instruments? How are new governing regimes of professional work, such as innovation imperatives, excessive audit and logics of blame and scapegoating, reconfiguring responsibility? How can professionals respond simultaneously to individuals in need, the obligations of their profession, the demands of their employer and an anxious society? A major concern addressed by each chapter, and the book as a whole, is educating professionals in and for responsibility. Specific dilemmas and strategies are offered for educators in universities, workplaces and professional development contexts who seek new approaches to helping professionals learn to critically understand and practise responsibility today. This book will appeal to a wide audience of education researchers and post-graduate students studying professional practice, professionalism and education across a wide range of disciplines. Health professionals, professionals working in private practices, such as law, architecture and engineering, newer professions such as social work and policing, and educational professionals at all levels will find stories and strategies reflecting key issues of their practice in this detailed exploration of professional responsibility and accountability.

Has Gods Law, as defined by the Ten Commandments, been done away, as has been supposed by many? Does the new covenant allow free picking and choosing? Does the fourth commandment not matter anymore, or did God change the sabbath to another day? Are Christmas and Easter Gods holy days? Does grace make the Law unnecessary? Is it okay to erect a sun god statue and other images in our nation to represent liberty? Is God okay with the popular sexual lifestyles our nations Christian-professing people have? Should true Christians be pro-war? Is it okay to live richly on credit when one is only able to pay the interest? It is time for our nation to repent and turn back to our liberty-giver, the true God of Israel. Gods Law of Love is needed for liberty to thrive. The Ten Commandments still apply today. Find the thorough answers to the questions above and more within the pages of this book.

This story focuses on the authors life growing up in a conservative Baptist church in a small, rural town where homosexuality was considered to be the greatest of all abominations before God. The writer delves deep inside her soul to share the ups and downs of struggling for nearly 30 years, trying to cope with being a lesbian. Ultimately culminating with the author discovering Jesus Christ, and with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, gaining a sort of self-acceptance and peace of mind that allowed her to become comfortable with being a gay Christian. The goal of this work is to hopefully help other lesbians and gays find Gods purpose for their lives, and to help non-gays understand the trials and tribulations of the gay community, to gain acceptance, and quell all misconceptions of Gods other children.
