This newest volume in The Total Synthesis of Natural Products series is an "A-to-Z" look at acyclic and monocyclic compounds in sesquiterpene synthesis, one of the most dynamic areas in the ongoing revolution in chemical synthesis, and is a must for the chemical professional.
Nonlinear Oscillations is a self-contained and thorough treatment of the vigorous research that has occurred in nonlinear mechanics since 1970. The book begins with fundamental concepts and techniques of analysis and progresses through recent developments and provides an overview that abstracts and introduces main nonlinear phenomena. It treats systems having a single degree of freedom, introducing basic concepts and analytical methods, and extends concepts and methods to systems having degrees of freedom. Most of this material cannot be found in any other text. Nonlinear Oscillations uses simple physical examples to explain nonlinear dispersive and nondispersive waves. The notation is unified and the analysis modified to conform to discussions. Solutions are worked out in detail for numerous examples, results are plotted and explanations are couched in physical terms. The book contains an extensive bibliography.

What is the one thing that no one can do without? Water. Where water crosses boundaries – be they economic, legal, political or cultural – the stage is set for disputes between different users trying to safeguard access to a vital resource, while protecting the natural environment. Without strategies to anticipate, address, and mediate between competing users, intractable water conflicts are likely to become more frequent, more intense, and more disruptive around the world. In this book, Delli Priscoli and Wolf investigate the dynamics of water conflict and conflict resolution, from the local to the international. They explore the inexorable links between three facets of conflict management and transformation: Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), public participation, and institutional capacity. This practical guide will be invaluable to water management professionals, as well as to researchers and students in engineering, economics, geography, geology, and political science who are involved in any aspects of water management.

This book presents a realistic perspective on the paradoxes employees face when navigating work and personal responsibilities for career success. The author answers the critical question of how to achieve sustainable and rewarding work–life integration from a perspective of "both/and" rather than "either/or." While most books focus on a fragmented, hyper-effective view of women and leadership, this book advances the need for an integrated approach. Its Competing Values Framework acts as an organizing model that aligns personal competency with organizational capability, helping readers to identify important leadership roles and competencies, break societal barriers, and choose the right set of behaviors to fit their personal and professional goals. In-chapter text boxes provide personal insight from real employees both entering and established in leadership positions, offering a varied perspective on the challenges and resolutions available to women in management. As men become more engaged with their families, they too will find this book a useful tool. Students in diversity management, women and management, career development, leadership, and organizational behavior classes will benefit from this realistic and sustainable alternative to the "have it all" model.

Auger electron spectroscopy is rapidly developing into the single most powerful analytical technique in basic and applied science.for investigating the chemical and structural properties of solids. Its ex plosive growth beginning in 1967 was triggered by the development of Auger analyzers capable of de tecting one atom layer of material in a fraction of a second. Continued growth was guaranteed firstly by the commercial availability of apparatus which combined the capabilities of scanning electron mi croscopy and ion-mill depth profiling with Auger analysis, and secondly by the increasing need to know the atomistics of many processes in fundamental research and engineering applications. The expanding use of Auger analysis was accompanied by an increase in the number of publications dealing with it. Because of the developing nature of Auger spectroscopy, the articles have appeared in many different sources covering diverse disciplines, so that it is extremely difficult to discover just what has or has not been subjected to Auger analysis. In this situation, a comprehensive bibliography is obviou-sly useful to those both inside and outside the field. For those in the field, this bibliography should be a wonderful time saver for locating certain references, in researching a particular topic, or when considering various aspects of instrumentation or data analysis. This bibliography not only provides the most complete listing of references pertinent to surface Auger analysis available today, but it is also a basis for extrapolating from past trends to future expectations.

It is customary to distinguish between ‘eating disorders’, and disorders of body weight, such as obesity. Eating disorders are categorized as mental illnesses, while obesity is seen primarily as a physical condition. However, such a separation is both arbitrary and unjustified. Obesity arises from behaviors which are physiologically inappropriate (such as consuming food when there is no metabolic need); conversely, eating disorders can cause profound alterations in physiology and body composition. Furthermore, many of the drugs used in the treatment of eating disorders, such as the newer ‘atypical antipsychotics’, frequently cause obesity, and some appetite suppressants prescribed for obesity, can cause marked changes in mood and behavior. Most patients who develop one of the eating disorders are extremely frightened of gaining weight. The disordered eating can be viewed as a pathological reaction to this fear and a distorted attempt to establish control of body weight. This book focuses on the place of drugs in the treatment of both sets of illnesses. It is arranged in two parts: Part I addresses the science of eating behavior. It examines the physiology, psychology and pharmacology of normal eating. Part II is clinically oriented, covering each of the recognized eating disorders and obesity. Each of its constituent chapters reviews the clinical features, the epidemiology and pathophysiology of the particular disorder being covered, before going on to discuss the available treatment options with particular reference to drugs. The last two chapters deal with disorders of eating and body weight at the two ends of the life cycle: childhood and old age.
