Lynn Stark, a travel writer and local celebrity who went missing two years earlier without a trace within hours of her return to her hometown in Southern California, is found murdered. The case is assigned to Detective Sergeant Jamie Michaels and her partner. Jamie has doubts about solving the murder after so much time, but three likely suspects are identified. The re-opening of the case and Jamie’s relentless search for the murderer raise alarm bells for people close to the case and, as Jamie gets close to the truth, she becomes a liability that must be stopped. While Jamie is conducting her investigation, her sister and brother-in-law continue their ongoing search for Mr. Right for her. After arranging a series of blind dates who turn out to be Mr. Wrongs, they are happy when Jamie finds someone special. Jamie has feelings for this man, but her preoccupation with finding out what happened to Lynn Stark leaves her little time for pursuing a relationship. She will have to make a choice between her all-consuming focus on her case and following her heart.

This ground-breaking book exposes the imperial origins of the planning canon, profession and practice in the settler-colonial country of Australia. By documenting the role of planning in the history of Australia’s relations with Indigenous peoples, the book maps the enduring effects of colonisation. It provides a new historical account of colonial planning practices and rewrites the urban planning histories of major Australian cities. Contemporary land rights, native title and cultural heritage frameworks are analysed in light of their critical importance to planning practice today, with detailed case illustrations. In reframing Australian planning from a postcolonial perspective, the book shatters orthodox accounts, revising the story that planning has told itself for over 100 years. Soils, Climate and Society, however, focuses on the complex relationship between human populations and the physical environment, particularly the land--the foundation of agricultural production and, by extension, of agricultural peoples. The volume traces the origins of agriculture, the transition to agrarian societies, the sociocultural implications of agriculture, agriculture's effects on population, and the theory of carrying capacity, considering the relation of agriculture to the profound social changes that it wrought in the New World. Soil science plays a significant, though varied, role in each case study, and is the common component of each analysis. Soil chemistry is also of particular importance to several of the studies, as it determines the amount of food that can be produced in a particular soil and the effects of occupation or cultivation on that soil, thus having consequences for future cultivators. Soils, Climate and Society demonstrates that renewed investigation of agricultural production and demography can answer questions about the past, as well as stimulate further research. It will be of interest to scholars of archaeology, historical ecology and geography, and agricultural history.
