Born into a small mining town in the early twentieth century, Mary Knox’s life was never easy. When her father died in a tragic mining accident, leaving her mother to descend into madness, Mary’s world shattered. Thrust into the harsh realities of the welfare system, she endured the unforgiving conditions of the workhouse and orphanage before being indentured as a seamstress at the tender age of fourteen. Determined to rise above her circumstances, Mary spent her teenage years working tirelessly, her persistence and talent rewarded with a position of authority far beyond her years. However, her success was short-lived, as corruption, a failed relationship with a married man, and theft tore her career asunder. In the face of adversity, Mary emerged transformed, her character now imbued with ruthlessness and the ability to think one step ahead. Most importantly, she learned to manipulate the sexual weaknesses of men, becoming the predator rather than the prey. A marriage of convenience provided the opportunity she needed to fully exploit her newfound commitment to success. Through sheer determination, corruption, and cunning, Mary Knox built an empire that would become her only child’s inheritance, establishing the Knox Legacy. This gripping tale of resilience, ambition, and the indomitable human spirit showcases one woman’s unwavering resolve to create a better life for herself and her descendants, no matter the cost.

SummaryIn the circle of initiates, the masters, guardians of a knowledge at the frontier of a here and an elsewhere, navigate between the fear and the fascination that they trigger in their surroundings. Fear, facing the incomprehension of their Universe, fascination, addressing their expressive power. In this paradox lies the access to the confidential World of the mastery. However, this is not about some eccentricity of the artist's madness, but a singular knowledge that emanates from the mastery of Art; expressed through simplicity, naturalness, authenticity. This book deals with this ability to evolve in the dimension of mastery, what it costs in efforts and sacrifices; an availability illustrated in very distinct practices, but yet so close, that of Ka, traditional Guadeloupean drum, and Kendo, traditional Japanese fencing.

In a matter of days the human race is reduced to nothing more than vicious, flesh hungry creatures. Samson, a criminal defense attorney, struggles to keep his family safe and his sanity intact when the world comes apart at the seams. Veronica, a high school track star, races to get her brother out of their doomed city. Ben, a military veteran, comes to grips with the end of the world as he fights the undead. Andrew, a police officer, struggles to maintain some sort of humanity in a world overrun by death and destruction. There is no good vs. evil, there is simply the living vs. the dead. The good guys don't always win, because sometimes, the good guys have to be the bad guys in order to stay alive. There are no heroes here. Just survivors"--Page 4 of cover
Abandoned By The Church reveals that the author, who as a child was raised behind the scenes of the church with its obvious flaws and issues, found it extremely difficult to fully embrace her relationship with God. Through its pages, Rutledge shares her thoughts and challenges questioning the nature of conservative and traditional Christianity and the understanding of Gods love and Gods word emphasized yet often contradicted by the actions of the so-called judgmental Church Foke around her. We as Christians must learn to accept all who enter the church doors without judgment of gender, skin color, attire, and body hygiene and personality conflicts. We must learn to love others as God loves us despite our religious conflicts or beliefs. Otherwise the church doors will become a revolving vicious cycle of unresolved issues and a mockery to the rest of the world, Rutledge expressed in the book. As Rutledge shares her life experiences and often heart breaking journeys traveled due to her issues with the church, readers will be captivated by her strength and determination to understand Christianity and the true function of the church without the stigma of fear and judgment but the realization of freedom. This book is a clear indictment toward the church, the ineffective religious processes currently set in place and the questionable leadership assigned. Abandoned By The Church will undoubtedly force you to view the church differently, but more importantly, it will inspire you to reevaluate your relationship with God, His believers and the non believers as well. Rutledge wholeheartedly believes that all people were created with a divine plan in mind. Ultimately, this book calls for a dramatic reform of the church.
When a genetic condition meets an addiction, life becomes difficult for a middle class mid-western girl. The Story Of A Sunday's Child is the true story of such an encounter. After becoming a young adult Stevie finds that her learning problems and physical traces on her body are the result of a genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis. When Stevie tells her fiancée about her problems she expects to be rejected but instead he is sympathetic. Unfortunately he turns out to be a high functioning alcoholic. Stevie watches helplessly as her marriage and her appearance become increasingly influenced by these two factors. It's the story of learning to live with something that cannot be changed; then finding the courage to leave a marriage gone aground on alcoholism. Nothing is sugar coated. Stevie's story is bluntly honest. It is not a "how I learned to live with" type of book. Many questions remain unresolved at the end of the narrative.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." (Hoes 4:6) The lack of knowledge has been the limiting factor in the lives of saints for thousands of years. The knowledge of the power and might that God invested in the saints to overcome the world has perished from the earth on a grand scale, ever since the days that Christ and Acts of the Apostles. However, God is still waiting for those who are willing to demonstrate His glory mightily against the kingdom of darkness. This divine demonstration requires, from every believer, an extreme passion for the truth and the willingness to prove that all things are possible. Unfamiliar Brilliance of the Inner Kingdom will uncover the mystery and power of God's authority and dominion within the believer. Believers will not only believe all things are possible, they will be willing to demonstrate this belief with every degree of their souls. It is 1936. Pompey Casmilus (the heroine of Smith's debut, Novel on Yellow Paper) lives in London with her beloved Aunt, bothered by the menace of German militarism, bothered too by the humbug which confronts it, bothered most of all by her hopeless love affair with Freddy. Its ending plunges Pompey into melancholy; six months of rest and recuperation are prescribed and Pompey goes to Schloss Tilssen on the northern German border, only to fall in with a strange band of conspirators: the plum-coloured Mrs Pouncer, the absent-minded Colonel Peck and the dashing Major Tom Satterthwaite, whom Pompey comes to love. How Pompey gets into uniform and becomes a spy is only one of the astounding events in this extraordinary novel which, on a serious level, is also about a powerful investigation of power and cruelty in a world preparing for war.
No star burned more ferociously than Judy Garland. And nobody witnessed Garland's fierce talent at closer range than Stevie Phillips. During the Mad Men era, Stevie Philips was a young woman muscling her way into the manscape of Manhattan's glittering office towers. After a stint as a secretary, she began working for Freddie Fields and David Begelman at Music Corporation of America (MCA) under the glare of legendary über-agent Lew Wasserman. When MCA blew apart, Fields and Begelman created Creative Management Associates (CMA), and Stevie went along. Fields convinced Garland to come on board, and Stevie became, as she puts it, "Garland's shadow," putting out fires-figurative and literal-in order to get her to the next concert in the next down-and-out town. Philips paints a portrait of Garland at the bitter end and although it was at times a nightmare, Philips says, "She became my teacher," showing her "how to" and "how not to" live. Stevie also represented Garland's fiercely talented daughter, Liza Minnelli, as well as Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, George Roy Hill, Bob Fosse, Cat Stevens, and David Bowie. She produced both films and Broadway shows and counted her colleague, the legendary agent Sue Mengers, among her closest confidantes. Now Stevie Phillips reveals all in Judy & Liza & Robert & Freddie & David & Sue & Me..., a tough-talking memoir by a woman who worked with some of the biggest names in show business. It's a helluva ride.

The eccentric landmark novel by the legendary English poet Stevie Smith: “a rare bird, a Maltese falcon” (The New Yorker) I am a forward-thinking girl, and don’t stay where I am. ‘Left right, be bright.’ Pompey Casmilus, Stevie Smith’s loquacious alter ego, works as a secretary and writes down on yellow office paper this wickedly amusing novel. “Dear Reader,” she addresses us politely in the whirlwind of her opinions on death, sex, anti-Semitism, art, Greek tragedy, friendship, marriage, Nazism, gossip, and the suburbs. But most of all Pompey talks about love. When Smith first tried to get her poems published in 1935, she was told by a publisher to “go away and write a novel.” Novel on Yellow Paper, the happy result of this advice, made its author an instant celebrity and was acclaimed as “a curious, amusing, provocative and very serious piece of work” (The London Times Literary Supplement, 1936).
Through the Eyes of a Black Man’s Pen is a book of poetry about the ups and downs, U-turns, and turnarounds of life, the difficulties in love and relationships, the consequences of the bad choices we make, and finding the spirit of God that gets us through it all. There are three things in life – that if they are less than 100 percent – don’t exist. Namely trust, love, and truth. Remember that 99.99 percent of the truth is still a lie, because the truth only exists if it’s 100 percent true. The easiest part of living is to die in the grace of God, and as long as you have Him, being alone is impossible.
Christopher Marlowe was the most successful dramatist of his time, his untimely death cutting short a career that may well have rivalled Shakespeare's. His four major works (Doctor Faustus, Edward II, The Jew of Malta and Tamburlaine) are remarkable pieces of theatre, daring explorations of themes such as the nature of kingship, salvation and damnation, sexuality and ethnic prejudice. This book looks in depth at extracts from each of the plays, exploring them in parallel to uncover key concerns, including heroes and anti-heroes, gender and power and politics. As well as guiding readers in an understanding of the place of these issues in their Elizabethan context, and inviting them to consider their resonance today, the book looks in depth at Marlowe's style: his use of rhythm, the complexities and richness of his poetry, and his evolving development of 'character'. Particular attention is given throughout to the plays in performance.
This book is an exploration of both mainstream and independent media. Grounded in qualitative methods, this book explores three trans masculine run YouTube channels alongside the streaming productions: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Orange is the New Black, and Transparent. Analyzing and contrasting these narratives illuminates how even the most progressive of pop culture productions fail to present multi-dimensional transgender narratives, thereby intensifying stigma and shame for those outside of the binary (male or female, man or woman, gay or straight). In contrast, trans masculine produced YouTube vlogs, such as those discussed in this book, can help audience members unlearn the ways in which the continuum of sex, gender, and sexual orientation has been simplified and obscured through corporate media. These vlogs thus exemplify the various ways in which independent media acts as an educational tool toward greater awareness, and perhaps empathy, of/for the self and others in regards to sexual identity.
