From Fair to Fine 3, like its predecessors, is intended to highlight interesting and underappreciated photography books for collectors and dealers along with some of the widely regarded classics. This catalog is divided into five sections and has more than 200 entries. The first three categories address important topics within the photography book genre: color; women of the 1970s and 1980s; and botanicals. A large miscellany contains books that vary from interesting to important and from well known to quite rare. Many of the books are signed or have appealing associations and most have not been included in any "top photo book" volume (e.g. Parr & Badger, Roth, The Open Book). The final section contains artist's books, uncommon exhibition catalogs and a series of (lengthy or complete) runs of significant arts periodicals involving photography.
This catalog, Teachers of the New Bauhaus, is produced by Stephen Daiter Gallery on the occasion of Art 40 Basel, June 10-14, 2009 in Basel, Switzerland. It is motivated by the excellent response we have already had in Basel to the photographic work of several of these teachers, most notably Aaron Siskind, L szl Moholy-Nagy and Gy rgy Kepes. The broad range of work created by these artist/educators during the first decade and a half of this experimental school generally known as The Institute of Design, provides us context and insight into later photographic innovation in the United States and Europe during the second half of the twentieth century. We hope you enjoy these photographs and the catalog.
