Four renowned urban ecologists have contributed their specific experience in sub-areas without losing sight of the big picture. Jürgen Breuste is an urban ecologist and works at the Paris Lodron University in Salzburg, Austria, on the topics of sustainable urban development, urban biodiversity, ecosystem services and eco-cities. Dagmar Haase is Landschaftsökologin and works at the Humboldt University of Berlin on urban ecosystem services and land use modeling. Stephan Pauleit is a landscape planner and works at the Technical University of Munich on strategies for the sustainable development of urban landscapes. Martin Sauerwein is a geographer and works at the University of Hildesheim on geo-ecology in cultural landscapes, geoarchaeology and soil protection. The textbook addresses a broad audience of students, teachersand also to practitioners in the fields of ecology, urban ecology, urban development, sustainability, urban geography, nature and landscape conservation, spatial planning, landscape ecology, social sciences and urban studies. From the 1960s onwards the clothing industry in the Neth- erlands and elsewhere in the European Union, experienced a deep crisis. Numerous firms went bankrupt and workers lost their jobs. Imports from low wage countries started providing the bulk of retailers' collections. However, in the 1980s a surprising development took place. In Amsterdam a substantial number of new small clothing firms mostly run by Turkish immigrants were established focusing on short-cycle production. During the 1990s most of these disappeared again. At the same time the import pattern changed to the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. Stephan Raes shows that the large retailers have become the most powerful players in the sector, and he places the developments against the background of transformations in the political economy of the Netherlands and Turkey. Stephan Raes is an economic anthropologist who currently works at the department of foreign economic relations of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands.

Jedoch können weit verbreitete kommerzielle Softwarepakete die Physik aufgrund ihrer niedrigen Genauigkeit oft nicht korrekt erfassen. In dieser Arbeit wird eine diskontinuierliche Galerkin Methode mit hoher Ordnung entwickelt, welche eine hohe Genauigkeit erzielt. Dabei werden insbesondere zwei Probleme, die im Kontext von Verfahren mit hoher Ordnung auftreten, behandelt. Zum einen wird die Gittergenerierung durch das Verwenden einer Immersed Boundary Methode deutlich vereinfacht. Dies bedeutet, dass die Problemgeometrie aus einem deutlich einfacheren Hintergrundgitter herausgeschnitten wird. Die Geometrie wird mit Hilfe einer Level-Set Funktion dargestellt, und die Integration auf den entstehenden geschnittenen Zellen wird mittels einer hierarchischen Moment-Fitting Quadratur durchgeführt. Das Problem der sehr kleinen oder stark gekrümmten Zellen wird durch Zellagglomeration gelöst. Zum zweiten wird die starke Zeitschrittbeschränkung durch anisotrope Gitter mit Hilfe eines lokalen Zeitschrittverfahrens behoben. Diverse numerische Experimente bestätigen die hohe Genauigkeit, Effizienz und geometrische Flexibilität der vorgestellten Methode.
