Multiphase contact apparatuses are widely used in the chemical and biocatalytic process industry in which a gaseous reactant has to be supplied. The achievement of high mass transfer rates with regard to process efficiency is mostly challenging. In this work a novel aeration technique based on fine bubbles with diameters smaller 100 µm is experimentally analyzed, providing large interfacial areas for the mass transfer process. The experiments show the benefit of using fine bubbles by reaching significantly higher mass transfer rates compared to conventional aeration. Especially stirred tank reactors prove to be most suitable for fine bubble aeration. Finally, models are developed, describing the mass transfer characteristics at microscales.

Hazards affect all aspects of human life, having impacts on the environmental, social, economic, political and biological systems. In order to better understand the effects produced by these disastrous events – including the mechanisms of resilience – it is necessary to understand in depth the issues involved. They are embedded in multiple dimensions – affective, psychosocial, cultural, architectural... Disasters pose the challenge of questioning the consequences and determining factors that contribute to their occurrence, but also to their experience. Through the multiple perspectives it offers, this book aims to lead to a better problematisation of the notions of risk, resilience and adaptation. Olivier Servais (PhD, 2003) is a historian and anthropologist. He is full professor at the University of Louvain in Belgium. He teaches the anthropology of symbolic systems and their relationship to the so-called «natural» or «artificial» environment. He has conducted fieldwork and documentary research in Canada, the Philippines, Mauritius, France, Belgium and in digital worlds. In his current research, he studies the imaginaries of virtual worlds, online et off line sociability, including rituals, resistance and resilience through or to digital, and the organization of groups at the margins, including indigenous people. Lionel Simon (PhD, 2017) is an anthropologist. He is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the University of Louvain in Belgium. His work focuses on ontologies, local knowledge and human-environment relations. He has been conducting research with the Wayuu of Colombia (Guajira Peninsula, since 2006) and the Mentawai of Indonesia (Siberut Island, since 2017).

Auch an den Ereignissen im Reich nimmt Bucer regen Anteil: Sein Interesse gilt der Lage Konstanz’ im Zinsstreit mit dem Bischof. Ulm sucht einen Nachfolger fur den verstorbenen Prediger Konrad Sam; Bucer diskutiert mit Ambrosius Blarer mögliche Kandidaten und gibt Ratschläge zum Eherecht. Aus Münster erreicht Bucer die Bitte um eine Stellungnahme zu Bernhard Rothmanns Aktivitäten, aus Nürnberg die Klage Andreas Osianders über seine Ortskollegen. Dass der Esslinger Predigerstreit mit der Entlassung von Martin Fuchs eskalierte, bedrückt Bucer sehr. Die Berufung Gervasius Schulers nach Memmingen freut Bucer, ebenso die Beruhigung der Lage in Kempten nach der Entlassung der lutherischen Prediger. Zu Augsburg intensiviert sich der Kontakt, vor allem zu Gereon Sailer. In Straßburg gelten Bucers Aktivitäten neben der Vorbereitung der Herbstsynode dem Bildungswesen. Seltene Einblicke gewahrt die Korrespondenz in Bucers Familienleben.

Environmental regulations such as the EU ETS emerged to fight climate change by reducing GHG emissions. Although those regulations increasingly affect oil and gas companies, specific implications of the EU ETS on business strategies are widely unknown. Therefore, this dissertation explores strategic responses to the EU ETS and analyses the impact of the regulation on the oil and gas sector. A strategic response framework, derived from the literature review, provides the basis for the analysis and is consequently adapted to the research findings. Empirical case studies of BP and Shell, combine secondary data and expert interviews to identify and further outline specific responses to the EU ETS. The research findings indicate that the EU ETS significantly impacts business strategies of oil and gas firms. The resulting strategic responses are mainly influenced by regulatory pressure, economic factors and competitive implications. Responses in various corporate, managerial and operational areas could be identified. From a corporate perspective, oil and gas companies support the EU ETS, as a trading scheme for carbon is preferred to other options, such as carbon taxes. Managerial responses comprise the introduction of environmental risk management systems, incorporating a carbon price into investment decisions, and the establishment of carbon trading teams, mitigating the costs of the EU ETS. Operationally, oil and gas firms responded directly by engaging in carbon trading and investing in Carbon Capture and Storage technologies. While, process improvements and lower emission generating products such as natural gases and biofuels are responses triggered by the EU ETS, investments in renewables are not affected. Additional findings of the research are the high probability that carbon and investment leakage will take place as well as the significant impact, the EU ETS might has on M&A and outsourcing decisions, depending on the carbon price.
