Like his great-great-great-uncle, geneticist Gregor Mendel, Dr. Benedict Lambert struggles to unlock the secrets of heredity and genetic determinism. However, Benedict's mission is particularly urgent and particularly personal, for he was born with achondroplasia--he's a dwarf. He's also a man desperate for love and acceptance, and when he finds both in Jean, a shy librarian, he stumbles upon an opportunity to correct the injustice of his own, at least to him, unlucky genes. Entertaining and tender, this witty and surprisingly erotic novel reveals the beauty and drama of scientific inquiry as it informs us of the simple passions against which even the most brilliant mind is rendered powerless.
This paper uses STINMOD, NATSEM?s static microsimulation model, to undertake a distributional analysis of these issues. Several versions of income splitting are modelled ? revenue neutral income splitting, unlimited income splitting, maximum gain income splitting, ?sudden death? income splitting and dependent child only income splitting. The distributional analysis examines how the gains are distributed across the ranges of family incomes and family types, and estimates the number of families who win, lose or are unaffected as well as the revenue loss to government. It contrasts the outcomes of the different options modelled.
This document outlines various considerations when planning for a new heritage collection facility that provides optimal preventive conservation features. As a companion to this document, a checklist is provided in Appendix C to help project managers track progress during a capital project. This guidance focuses mainly on facility design features; it does not include recommendations for the policies, procedures and practices that are also required to protect collections from the agents of deterioration (with the exception of integrated pest management [IPM] and emergency response). This document can also be used by existing institutions wishing to obtain an overview of preventive conservation requirements in a heritage collection facility"--Introduction, page 5.
