With hundred centuries and over 34,000 runs in international cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, the highest run-getter in both Tests and ODIs, is the God of the religion called cricket. His exploits on the field have brought hope and joy to millions of fans. And yet, like God, he has his set of detractors always willing to remove him from the pedestal. In this revised and updated edition, the authors, who consider themselves fans and analysts in equal measure, follow the career of the cricketing demigod - his advent, his peak, his fall, his resurrection and, finally, his retirement. They also talk about India's sensational WC 2011 triumph and Tendulkar's decision to retire from international cricket. Armed with irrefutable statistical data, which they contextualize and analyse with rigour, the authors seek to end all debate on Tendulkar's status as the greatest cricketer of the modern era. They compare him with his peers in both forms of the game, and provide the viewpoint of experts, players and commentators, so that the reader can independently draw conclusions. And if you still don't believe that Sachin is God's gift to the world of cricket, well, God help you!
The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a highly reliable and valid tool for the evaluation of trainees in anaesthesia. It enables examiners and trainers to assess a number of competencies in an organised way. The book contains 100 OSCE stations with answers based on key practical procedures, clinical skills, communication skills, data interpretation, anaesthetic equipment and the management of critical incidents on a simulator. This book will also help candidates all over the world to pass highly competitive postgraduate examinations in anaesthesia. It is an invaluable educational resource for all anaesthetists.
The Business of Cricket: The Story of Sports Marketing in India. HOW SPORTS MARKETING HAS BOWLED US OVER Sports marketing is all-pervasive today - no matter where you look, there is no escaping a Dhoni, a Tendulkar or a Sehwag. It wasn't always like this. There was a time when sportspersons got fame from sport, but not the money commensurate with that fame. Then Sunil Gavaskar, India's first batsman-entrepreneur, came along, and in his wake followed Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar. Helped by television and competing multinational brands vying to expand their market in a liberalizing India, sports marketing, which in India is synonymous with cricket, exploded. The culmination of this process was the Indian Premier League (IPL), a brilliant marketing concept that was a win-win for players, sponsors, media and viewers alike. This book, written by two sports enthusiasts who are also ace sports marketers with a combined international experience of forty years in marketing, takes us on an engaging and informative journey through the highs and lows of sports marketing in India. Along the way, the authors explain what constitutes good sports marketing, how the market can be expanded, what the prospects are for sports other than cricket, and why the sports fan needs to be better treated. An incisive, heartfelt book that will appeal to sports fans, marketers, advertisers as well as administrators.

This new edition continues to focus on the nuts and bolts of wireless network access for devices on board vehicles. It has been updated to reflect on the most recent trends in the broad domain of Intelligent Transport Systems. It covers 802.11ac – a recent standard that is very useful in context where a large amount of information is to be sent in a limited time window. The new edition includes a thorough revision of the 'Vehicular Communication: Issues and Standards' chapter, with new citations and a new subsection on security. The new edition also cites numerous fresh research works to give readers an updated overview of the field. An update on the time delay incurred by applications that always run in the background (Skype, etc) is also covered. The 'Future Directions and Research Ideas' chapter is also largely re-written. An entirely new chapter on D2D communication keeping in view the vehicular context has been added in this edition. This volume will be a useful addition to the libraries for both the students of wireless communication and those studying applied probability.
If the environment is deteriorated and degraded, polluted and defiled, filthy and disgraceful, concomitantly the speechless plants and animals, the motherly soil and the crazy human being besides the buildings and monuments suffer. While a few problems are occupational, water pollution is regional, and air pollution is global in its impact. The effluent rich water could be treated before disposal. However, pollutants once released in air can not be controlled. The main aim of writing this book is to provide the students of environmental science, a simple exposition of the subject. The book has been compiled from the point of view of the students to give them a thorough training in the principles and methods of environmental analysis. Recognising the need for standard methods in examination and analysis of environmental parameters has been long felt. The book starts with a chapter on environmental monitoring, followed by Physico-chemical monitoring to evaluate concentration of pollutants, Biomonitoring to evaluate pollutant effects, remote sensing and environmental stress. Environmental procedures for the common parameters have been discussed. There are many more parameters which should be monitored if the situation demands, but it becomes difficult when efforts are made at the level of an individual. The last chapter is detection of pollution by citizens to involve peoples participation in environmental monitoring.
Focusing on the nuts and bolts of wireless network access for computers on board vehicles, this volume shows how in-car computerization now does much more than merely act as a glorified map-reader. Wireless communication is transforming road travel in ways previously undreamt of, allowing vehicles to “talk” to a wider network and monitor road conditions, potential delays and traffic congestion, all automatically. Toll payments can be made without opening the driver’s window on a cold day, while vehicles might themselves take active steps to avoid collisions. It is the connection between on-board computers and wireless access points, ubiquitous in most cities now, that is a key area of research. Moving vehicles transfer their communications to new points as they progress, and this causes delays, known as “handover latency”. In this book, new stochastic models are developed to map the disruption when connecting to 802.11 WLAN points. It details the application of stochastic tools to analyzing communication networks, as well as previous literature on handover latency and relevant mathematical modeling. Finally, it presents a scheme for monitoring traffic congestion using WLAN connectivity. This volume will be a useful addition to the libraries both of wireless communication students and those studying probability theory.
Medical interviews have changed a lot with time; in the last two decades, multiple mini interviews (MMIs) have revolutionized the assessment strategies for entrance to medical schools. MMIs usually consist of 6-10 stations of independent assessments done in a timed circuit so that the same examiner evaluates a specific skill for a station among the candidates. Many of these stations assess a candidate’s soft skills, including critical thinking, problem solving, team working, leadership and professional attitudes in addition to their knowledge, skills and motivation towards choosing medicine as a career. MMIs are not just a test of a candidate’s knowledge or skills, but their ability to use it appropriately at the right time. Aristotle said, ‘we are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit’. Candidates wishing to succeed in medical MMI interviews need repetitive practice in the various stations. These stations usually include assessments on communication skills, medical ethics, recent medical facts, role play with an empathetic approach, data interpretation and calculations, scenario-based situations, personal character, motivation and judgment. This book will provide an excellent variety of opportunities to practice these stations and guide the candidate with a framework of answers. This book can be used for various medical university entrance exams, including those in the United Kingdom via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), the United States via the American Medical College Application Service (AMCA), Canada via the respective Medical School Applications Service, Australia via the specific state Tertiary Admissions Centre and many other countries via their specific admission pathways. Dr. Thanthullu Vasu has previously published four medical books alongside many chapters and articles in leading international journals. He has founded, organized and directed many teaching courses that have received excellent feedback. He regularly organizes national MMI courses for candidates applying to medical schools; these courses are in high demand and have consistently produced a successful outcome. Many of the contributors in the book are team members from the RISE Foundation Leicestershire, a charity based in Leicestershire (https://risefoundationuk.com/). All the contributors have extensive experience as examiners in many interviews and courses. The royalties from the sale of this book will be donated to the RISE Foundation Leicestershire. Thank you for buying this book, as the money will go towards helping various causes supported by this charity. We wish you much success in your interviews and your future medical career.
Ethics and the History of Indian Philosophy, by Shyam Ranganathan, presents a compelling, systematic explication of the moral philosophical content of history of Indian philosophy in contrast to the received wisdom in Indology and comparative philosophy that Indian philosophers were scarcely interested in ethics. Unlike most works on the topic, this book makes a case for the positive place of ethics in the history of Indian philosophy by drawing upon recent work in metaethics and metamorality, and by providing a through analysis of the meaning of moral concepts and PHILOSOPHY itself- in addition to explicating the texts of Indian authors. In Ranganathan`s account, Indian philosophy shines with distinct options in ethics that find their likeness in the writings of the Ancient in the West, such as Plato and the Neo-Platonists, and not in the anthropocentric or positivistic options that have dominated the recent Western tradition.
