The river provides outdoor recreational opportunities and is today the busiest waterway in the Midwest. The text features over 100 clinical cases, each one challenging the reader to determine the neuroanatomical location of the patient's lesion. This exercise provides the anatomical guidance needed to make critical diagnostic and management decisions in patients who often present with abnormal eye movements. This is Shirley Mays' third book. She is a North Carolina real estate broker and an environmental consultant. She has a Research Center at the Cotton Exchange in Wilmington, North Carolina. This book is about a conspiracy to defraud the United States taxpayers perpetrated by individuals employed by the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) and its successor agency on the matter in question, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The Resolution Trust Corporation was a US government-owned asset management company mandated to liquidate assets of the defunct savings and loan associations ("S&Ls"). Between 1989 and mid-1995, the RTC closed or otherwise resolved 747 Savings & Loans Institutions (known as thrifts) with total assets in the hundreds of billions of dollars. Shirley Mays was certified by the RTC and the FDIC as a minority woman -owned corporation. She became an insider and a whistleblower. Her whistleblowing case filed with the Department of Justice in July of 1996 was covered up by the government with lightening speed. She filed an IRS Whistleblower Case in June of 2009. She and her Congressman are now going after the corporate criminals like the IRS went after Al Capone.. for tax evasion. She has their pseudo-Federal ID numbers. Whereas, there is no statute of limitations when you are able to show that they knew they were committing fraud. The IRS looks at a fraud case entirely differently. It can pursue any case where it can prove the company knew it was cheating, even if the underpayment was 20 years ago.

There exists a wealth of information about the development of the spinal cord in journal articles and monographs, yet this beautifully illustrated work is the first book devoted to this important topic. Because the developing human spinal cord cannot be subjected to experimental manipulations, the knowledge gained from experimental work in animals is applied here to an interpretation of the time course and mechanisms of spinal cord development in man. The book begins with a review of our current understanding of the structure and functions of the spinal cord. Special reference is made to the phylogeny of the vertebrate spinal cord because the authors' interpretation of the development and organization of the human spinal cord is specifically an evolutionary one. Following a detailed experiment-based account of spinal cord development in the rat, the development of the human spinal cord is described, illustrated and interpreted in separate chapters during three epochs: the first trimester (the embryonic period), the second and third trimesters (the fetal period), and the first year of postnatal life. Special attention is paid to such topics as neurons, and the growth and myelination of the ascending and descending fiber tracts of the spinal cord. The book ends with a correlation of the development of motor behavior with different stages in the morphological development of the human spinal cord during the embryonic, fetal, and postnatal periods. The successive acquisition of voluntary control over different parts of the body during infancy is correlated with the progressive myelination of the corticospinal tract. * The book contains an extensive review of work on spinal cord organization and development throughout the 20th century. * The interpretations are based on experimental studies of spinal cord development in the rat carried out by the authors and their associates. * The histological material on human spinal cord development is the largest ever assembled and reproduced (combining the Carnegie, Minot, and Yakovlev Collections). * The collected material (which varies in quality and some of it has begun to fade) has been digitized and electronically reprocessed for improved reproduction. * Discrete components of the spinal cord and new developments are highlighted by color coding; typically on one side only, leaving the contralateral side untouched to allow the reader to use his own interpretation. * Summary graphs are presented, many in color, to convey important structural relationships, developmental events, or theories. * The authors revive a few forgotten theories and offer several new ones regarding the development and organization of the human spinal cord. Development of the Human Spinal Cord will be of interest to developmental biologists, neuroscientists, embryologists, molecular biologists (those working on stem cell research), pediatric neurologists, pathologists, child and developmental psychologists, and their students and trainees.

Patricia always wanted to work for the federal government. After a visit to the White House when she was nine years old, she was "hooked." Patricia grew up in rural Orange, Virginia, where her family owned a small farm. There, with her parents, Willis and Helen Shirley, three brothers, three sisters, and Grand and Pappy, her paternal grandparents, she was told if she worked hard she would succeed. That there was "no one out there better than she," but to always remember she was no better than anyone else. She began her federal career as a file clerk working for the US Food and Drug Administration. After a year, she accepted a position with the US Navy where she worked as a draftsman and report preparer. Continuing her federal journal, she accepted a position with the US Air Force where she worked as the division secretary for the chief of the division. Seeking an increase in pay and more responsibility, she accepted a position with the Office of Secretary of Defense as a legislative assistant, interacting with congress members and their staffs. After a short period, she was offered a position in the international and intelligence law division, interacting with our intelligence agencies: CIA, DIA, and National Security Agency. Patricia continued to progress in her career accepting a position with defense research and engineering, first working with and interacting with our NATO allies and then with the Defense Science Board where she became executive assistant to the director. After the 9-11 terrorist attacks, Patricia accepted a position with the administrative office of US Courts as an administrative analyst planning training sessions for judges' secretaries. Patricia ended her federal career in 2008 after forty years of serving our government.
