Do you know the value of having three square meals a day? If you grew up in my household this would be a no-brainer. As a child, the importance of proper nutrition was instilled in me and my siblings at a very early age. How about you? Did you ever have to do school lessons on the food pyramid or hear lectures about the importance of eating your three square meals? Well, I have had more lessons than I can remember. I thought those lessons, for me, would never come in handy; but as I begin this project, I realize that just as we must have a balanced natural diet, we must likewise have a balanced spiritual diet. I have often heard the Bible described as "spiritual food;" well, if that is true then why do we not treat it that way? Most of the devotionals that I have used over the years, some of which have been amazing, gave me one spiritual meal for the day; but that is not quite how it is with food, is it? Let's think about natural food. Do you eat only one meal a day or are you encouraged to have at least three square meals? Well, the idea of this book is to give you a well-balanced spiritual meal plan. This book is also about renewal. So, these stories are not just devotionals, they are designed to bring a breath of freshness from God in twenty-eight days. My team and I have identified prayer, trust, assurance, advancing through adversity, encouragement, moving forward, self-improvement, forgiveness, and healing as the major areas that lead to a person being renewed. Have you ever had a bucket of water splashed on you on a hot day? I pray this book is just as refreshing for you. 3 Square Meals is ninety short scriptures and stories to be read three times daily. Prayerfully, in the next twenty-eight days you will be encouraged, inspired, and renewed while eating your three square meals.
As a WWE wrestler with millions of fans, Shawn Michaels had adulation and all the attention he could ask for, but he found himself longing for something more. Wrestling for My Life documents Shawn's journey to finding a new way of life--one that's marked by faith, family, and forgiveness. As you watch Shawn's testimony unfold, you'll learn about: The power of self-discipline The importance of finding a supportive mentor who challenges you to be the best version of yourself The freedom that's found in true forgiveness Praise for Wrestling for My Life: "Shawn's greatest challenge came from deep within himself, and it's been awe-inspiring to watch this man pull himself from the depths of his own personal hell by immersing himself in his faith in God. I couldn't be more amazed at the man, husband, father, and friend he has become." —The Undertaker "I am certain that you will enjoy getting to know Shawn Michaels from the pages within as much as I have in his everyday life. If you read one book this year, make it this one" —Pastor Matthew Hagee "Shawn's story is an important reminder of life's priorities and how we choose to use our given gifts. While I work with Shawn outside of the wrestling world, I can still strongly attest to his perseverance, passion, and humility. These pages offer an inside look into how he found strength for better change." —Jeff Wayne, Executive Vice President Programming of Outdoor Channel
STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) is a fairly new concept in American education. As separate subjects, science and math have been around for a long time but have rarely been taught as a seamless unit of skills; rather as discreet content areas. This is not how the real world outside of the classroom functions however; in actual research laboratories scientists infuse their science with math, and their math with science, and along with technology and engineering they solve real life problems. In practice you cannot separate the various fields, as you need all of them in order to discover the underpinnings of the natural world, cure a disease, or solve a problem with the space rover. The American future depends on a scientifically literate workforce, armed with knowledge about the laws and theories of science, based on empirical facts instead of beliefs. In addition, there is a shortage of graduates in STEM related disciplines. Economic data show that 1 million additional STEM graduates will be needed over the next decade to fill America’s economic demand. STEM based jobs are expected to grow 17% in the next 10 years, outpacing the overall job growth of 10%. If teachers across America were trained with fundamental and impending scientific concepts in their science-methods courses at the university level, scientific literacy can only dramatically improve. Nanoscience is one such concept; as it is multidisciplinary in nature and is regarded as the basis for innovated technologies in many fields. The authors of this book seek to provide pre-service and in-service science teachers with high-quality STEM modules, with which to create lesson plans and problem-based lessons to use in their future classrooms, both at the elementary and secondary level. Nanoscience was chosen since its applications reaches across virtually every scientific field; from biology to physics and for that matter all STEM domains.

This book is an attempt to show that preservice teacher knowledge is substantive and should be part of the wider database of knowledge about teaching and learning in the field of teacher education. From the perspectives of five prospective teacher interns and a teacher educator, this volume brings the experiences of students conducting research during preservice teacher education to life. Charged to conduct a semester long study in the school, the intern-authors studied classroom scenes and their own work, and wrote case studies depicting their experiences. Their pieces -- in their entirety -- compose the central chapters of the book and serve as examples of preservice teacher research. The surrounding chapters examine the interns' experiences of conducting research during their preservice internship year primarily from the perspective of a teacher educator who studied them and the scene throughout the experience. The teacher educator examines the interns' approaches to research and the processes they employed to conduct and complete their studies, the interns' professional growth as a result of their participation in the study, and the impact the project had on the program. This book fills the gaps that exist in the present literature on the use of teacher research during preservice by including the inquiry works of preservice teachers as examples of legitimate, important preliminary research in their own rights, and by addressing the complex issues of conducting this type of study during preservice from multiple perspectives, not just that of the university researcher. While some texts include the perspectives of students and even include portions of students' own work, this text takes the step of co-authorship, sharing the academic discourse with intern teachers who have produced experience and knowledge that are informative for the field of education as a whole and specifically for teacher education. The text attempts to combine many voices into one thorough, narrative approach, ultimately urging the reader to consider the possibilities of teacher research for advancing knowledge in the field and for enhancing the professional development of the participants.

Thomas Hart Benton is often recognized as the leader of the 1930s movement known as Regionalism, which celebrated rural life in the United States. However, he lived and worked primarily in New York from 1912 to 1935, one of the most vibrant and dynamic periods in the city’s history. It was also a critical time for Benton’s artistic development, as he gradually established and set on the course that would define his career, one characterized by a passionate commitment to public art, populist subject matter, and a distinctively expressive figurative style rooted predominantly in European Mannerism. The pinnacle of Benton’s New York years was the mural cycle he painted for the newly erected headquarters of the New School for Social Research at 66 West 12th Street, which opened to the public in January 1931. Called America Today, the mural — his first significant commission for an institution — raised Benton’s artistic stature not only in New York, but also nationwide, setting the stage for his appearance in December 1934 on the cover of Time magazine, the first time an artist was accorded that honor. This Bulletin reveals the many remarkable stories that America Today has to tell and presents new discoveries about Benton’s epic cycle. The essay and entries contained in these pages elucidate the mural’s rich content, particularly Benton’s celebration of the Machine Age and American “progress” in the 1920s.

“Brimming with hard realities about the choices we make, the friendships we keep, and the unlikely allies we find along the way, this affecting novel helps to fill the gaping hole left by Walter Dean Myers’s passing.” —Booklist “A taut, haunting tragedy.” —Kirkus Reviews One young man searches for a place to call home in this gut-wrenching, honest novel from New York Times bestselling author Wes Moore and cowriter Shawn Goodman. Elijah Thomas knows one thing better than anyone around him: basketball. But when a sinister street gang, Blood Street Nation, wants him and his team members to wear the Nation’s colors in the next big tournament, Elijah’s love of the game is soon thrown into jeopardy. The boys gather their courage and take a stand against the gang, but at a terrible cost. Now Elijah must struggle to balance hope and fear, revenge and forgiveness, to save his neighborhood. For help, he turns to the most unlikely of friends: Banks, a gruff ex–military man, and his beautiful and ambitious daughter. Together, the three work on a plan to destroy Blood Street and rebuild the community they all call home. This Way Home is a story about reclamation. It’s about taking a stand for what matters most, and the discovery that, in the end, hope, love, and courage are our most powerful weapons.
There's an old saying that goes like this: Be careful of what you wish for because you just may get it. Born and raised in a home with dedicated Christians, Jason "Real" Johnson developed a level of consciousness that most street dudes will never acquire. However, his poor circumstances had him dreaming of money and success, and he was willing to break the law to get it. Although highly intelligent, Real doesn't understand how naive he was to the orders of the underworld. He found himself affiliated with a dangerous and heartless crew dead set in the middle of a war. Street success came with a price he was not willing to pay. A barrage of incidents began to assassinate his character and Real begins to question his own integrity. A growth process begins... The only problem with growth was the fact that it contradicted everything his crew stood for. Choices will be made. Loyalty will be in question. Sides are chosen. And in the end, only real will recognize real.
