In the first three books of the Torn Between Two Worlds series, we established a framework for human dualism. In the fourth book, we moved from a philosophical discussion to a hands-on, self-help presentation, providing helpful answers to everyday issues. In the first half of the book, we define the possible spiritual illnesses that can affect you and your loved ones. These are the underlying causes that are being either unrecognized or misdiagnosed by the medical community. The second half of the book provides many ways to increase your spiritual strength and increase your resistance to the negativity that you are subjected to. Every human being can aspire to their full potential, and therefore, all the suggestions from this book can be used to move closer to this goal, regardless of the current state of spiritual health you find yourself in. In this book, we discover the various tools available to overcome the spiritual afflictions that we or our loved ones suffer from. At the end of this book, you should not only have tools to assist you, but also have a guide on how they can be implemented in your life.
So, even if science and religion work together to break down barriers and expand the understanding of the universe, there is another battle, on different dimension, that we need to examine. Knowledge without wisdom can be even more dangerous when coupled with someone talented in rhetoric. Rhetoric in this book is defined as using knowledge and beautiful speech to achieve a political objective. Philosophy is defined as the "love of wisdom" and the search for it among the rhetoric will prove troublesome. I must admit that it took me many years to understand and verbalize this dimension. Attempting to understand the difference between an argument fully based on law and one almost all based on law is often impossible without considering at the personal motivation and character. Often this cannot be known in time and can only be studied after the fact. This book will analyze some key moments in history, starting with the master of this topic, Socrates. Thanks to Plato, the words of the master of logic have been preserved, and we can examine the battle he fought between wisdom and rhetoric, and the impact of his loss on the world. The subtleness of this loss is symbolized on the cover of this book by the difference between the Ionic- and Doric-order. The Erechtheion is an Ionic-order temple built by the enlightened residents of Athens. The six Karyatides staring out to the ocean depicting the women of Athens carrying the weight of society while their men were defending Athens from foreign invasion. In his early life, it was Socrates who carved these six images of his wife, the wife who was stolen from him by a Spartan as he was away defending his country. It was this materialistic society who built the monstrous Parthenon, with none of this subtle symbolism of the value of women to the enlightened Greeks.
One of the fundamental laws of physics is that a force is met with an equal and opposite force. Since Galileo rescued science from religion, science has done battle with religion: knowledge vs belief. I would go as far as to say that science has violated one of its most basic laws, and consequently, helped create an equal and opposite force in this world. When we look at history, whenever a group gained power through knowledge (at the expense of others), a force grew within society to oppose it. The Roman church’s adaptation of Aristotle, as their proxy for science, set scientific development back for centuries, until Galileo pried it free in the 17th century. Since then, modern science has developed its theories about the physical world at an astonishing pace, while the churches have remained stagnant, with few exceptions. This book will celebrate the wisdom held by each of these two worlds and attempt to highlight the blind-spots that have kept the two sides from forming a partnership. One of the universal wisdoms that religions have taught for millennia is that when you give, you receive more in return. John Nash received the Nobel Prize for proving this spiritual wisdom and it is in this spirit that a cooperation between science and religion could be formed.

The new millennium is widely considered to be the age of globalisation, democratisation, and human rights. We live in a knowledge society and in a time of risk and uncertainty. It is the interplay of these key trends of the era that call for a fresh approach to quality of life studies to inform policy makers and development practitioners. This book addresses the key challenges life research that relate to the characteristics of the new millennium such as increased risks, rapid worldwide democratisation of societies, loss of bio- and cultural diversity, rapid erosion of natural resources and climate change, and global connectivity that accelerates the transmission of disease as well as knowledge. Quality of life (QOL) research has made great strides since the social indicator movement started as a scientific enterprise in the 1960s. Researchers from many different scientific disciplines are now engaged in describing and evaluating the human condition in many different parts of the world. Although QOL researchers are better equipped both theoretically and practically than in the past, the new era poses new challenges for them. One such challenge relates to the very definition of the subject under study. The notion of the good life that has intrigued classical Greek is fluid and popular conceptions of the good life have shifted over time. The speed with which societies worldwide are changing in the new millennium is breathtaking. It is possible that the vision of the good life has shifted dramatically over the forty years since the social indicator movement began. Democracy is currently the political system of choice in the new millennium or is at least considered the best possible system of governance invented to date. The emergent democracies in the Second and Third World have joined the ranks of the older democracies of the First World. One of the important roles of QOL researchers is to engage citizens in assessing their life circumstances relative to their own conception of the good life. Quality of life studies play an important role in guiding social policy. In democracies citizens are able to hold their governments accountable for pursuing the policies and making the interventions that will make the greatest improvements for the greatest number. There are moral and political issues related to the proper role of governments in providing the good life and public goods. This volume addresses the issue of how governments should intervene to shape the good life for their citizens. This is a pertinent question for quality-of-life scholars in all corners of the earth in the new millennium.
