As the young man got wind of possibility of indictment, he escaped into Thailand and was on his way to hide in Burma, but the FBI was chasing him. Will he be caught and brought back in the United States to stand trial? Will he be able to turn his life around? Find out by reading this new novel by Dan Sharma. It is a fast-moving saga that takes you back and forth to Burma, Thailand, and the United States. ” Lord Shiva gets married to Sati, the daughter of Prajapati Daksh. Sati goes to Her father’s yajna uninvited, and burns Herself in the sacrificial fire as Daksha insults Lord Shiva and Her. Lord Shiva traverses the creation with Sati’s burnt body on His shoulders, dancing the Rudra Tandava. Lord Vishnu cuts the body into pieces by Sudarshana chakra, that scatter on Bharatvarsha in Bhooloka. Lord Shiva refuses to part with Sati, and establishes Himself along with each Pindi as Swayambhu Shivlinga. Demon Tarakasura attempts to steal the Devi Pindi, and consequently Lord Shiva appoints Kshetrapal Bhairav to protect each Shaktipeeth from evil, demonic forces. The Shaktipeeths are worshipped, and an unknown span of time passes. Bharatvarsha is attacked by the mlechhas. The temples are attacked, broken and plundered. The Shivlinga is broken, and the Bhairav temple is lost. The Pindi is not visible anymore, and the idea of the existence of the Swayambhu Shivlinga is forgotten. At some places, Goddess appears in the dream of devotees to look up a particular spot where She exists. So, Kalighat temple, Attahas Peeth and Kalkaji temple are rediscovered. As a thousand years pass, the memory of the Swayambhu Shivlinga is lost and forgotten. Mahadev remains bound with Sati Pindi as Swayambhu Shivlinga, and waits to be found and worshipped again at each of the Shaktipeeth temples. As the exact spots of the Swayambhu lingam wait to be rediscovered along with the Devi Pindi, the real Shaktipeeth temples await to welcome back the lost glory of ancient Vedic India and Her cultural magnificence. ”

Circa 2001. Delhi landscape is changing due to the construction of underground Railways. Recently arrived Sarojini is living with her aunt in 99 moon avenue, studying in an expensive University and trying to fit, but the garish metropolis is ruthless. She finds love and understanding in her journalist-neighbour jalaj when tragedy strikes- an unknown assailant molested her on the street. Can Sarojini fight the mental trauma and callousness of the authorities in charge of her case? Is jalaj using her for sex and convenience? And who is the lady she saw in an empty train at a wayside station? The colonial bungalows of their posh locality are set to be demolished, and replaced with multi-storey buildings, but an Englishwoman killed in 1942 still lurks in sarojini’s room. Jalaj is enamored by imperial Delhi, and her ghost appears to him occasionally- she tells him about the architect who designed moon avenue, magical tales of European adventurers and their Indian bibis, spirits, and mystics prowling the streets of Delhi, and the bizarre manner in which she was murdered. Caught between two women; one dead and another living, is jalaj treating both frivolously? Why is the dead woman telling him her story? Set in a fictional area of the timeless capital-city: 99 moon avenue is the story of self-discovery of a small-town girl torn by circumstances, a young man grieved by the impending loss of a piece of Delhi history, and a mysterious ghost trapped in past calamity.

Bhumihars are a prominent ‘Ayachak’ brahmin community of East India. Ayachak brahmins gave up priestly duties and took up agriculture for subsistence and bore arms to protect the motherland. Ayachaks have coexisted alongside the traditional priestly Yachak class, within the Brahminical fold across India since time immemorial. Bhumihar brahmin community, though small, has a rich history of both valour and scholarship. Even as the Greeks, led by Alexander the Great, were ravaging the north-western flanks of India, a Chanakya was plotting a quiet pushback. When the successors of King Ashoka, smitten by the non-violent ways of Buddhism, were dilly dallying against the imminent threat of a Greek resurgence, a Pushyamitra Shunga rose to shake the warriors out of their stupor of non-violence and pushed back the Greeks beyond the borders of Bharat forever. When forced to use a rifle cartridge laden with beef starch, against their Hindu beliefs, a Mangal Pandey became the first one to rise in protest and soon a nation followed. The indomitable spirit of the community has inspired and dazzled with their scholarship as well. Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’s pen, drenched in the patriotic fervour of ‘Veer Rasa’, inspired many mutinies against the British. From the venerable Shri Babu, the first chief minister of Bihar in independent India, to Raj Narain, the giant killer who defeated Indira Gandhi, the community has shone in the field of politics and leadership. The community has not shied away from raising its voice against injustice and led reform movements like abolition of Zamindari and the temple entry movement. They may have lost their traditional tools of subsistence, but they still carry the twin endowments of bravery and intellect in their genes. Bhumihar ‘Ayachak’ brahmins are truly the brahmins who refused to beg.
