The Science of Attitudes is the first book to integrate classic and modern research in the field of attitudes at a scholarly level. Designed primarily for advanced undergraduates and graduate students, the presentation of research will also be useful for current scholars in all disciplines who are interested in how attitudes are formed and changed. The treatment of attitudes is both thorough and unique, taking a historical approach while simultaneously highlighting contemporary views and controversies. The book traces attitudes research from the inception of scientific study following World War II to the issues and methods of research that are prominent features of today’s research. Researchers in the field of attitudes will be particularly interested in classic and modern research on the organization, structure, strength and function of attitudes. Researchers in the field of persuasion will be particularly interested in work on attitude change focusing on propositional and associative learning, metacognition and dynamic theories of dissonance, balance and reactance. The book is designed to present the integration of the properties of the attitude with the dynamic considerations of attitude change. The Science of Attitudes is also the first book on attitudes to devote entire chapters to work on implicit measurements, resistance to persuasion, and social neuroscience.

Earth has been controlled for eons by the 'dark forces' by instilling a project of 'fear', and we have all been deceived on a grand scale. They have achieved this by stealth through their secret societies, groups, governments and institutes to create a New World Order. They have controlled populations and culled humans through their man-made diseases such as Ebola and HIV/AIDS. They control humanity with prescription drugs, technology, food additives, vaccines and they suppress the cures for cancer. They control the media, create wars and initiate acts of terrorism. They control politics, banking, education, sciences and religions. They are followers of Satanism and some are paedophiles. They use mind control programmes and control the illegal drugs trade, manipulate the weather and have introduced a 'police state' and have suppressed free-energy. This is part of the spiritual battle between the 'dark forces' and the 'forces of light'. Welcome to the lunatic asylum that is planet Earth.
Torture is banned because it is cruel and inhumane. But as Shane O’Mara writes in this account of the human brain under stress, another reason torture should never be condoned is because it does not work the way torturers assume it does. In countless films and TV shows such as Homeland and 24, torture is portrayed as a harsh necessity. If cruelty can extract secrets that will save lives, so be it. CIA officers and others conducted torture using precisely this justification. But does torture accomplish what its defenders say it does? For ethical reasons, there are no scientific studies of torture. But neuroscientists know a lot about how the brain reacts to fear, extreme temperatures, starvation, thirst, sleep deprivation, and immersion in freezing water, all tools of the torturer’s trade. These stressors create problems for memory, mood, and thinking, and sufferers predictably produce information that is deeply unreliable—and, for intelligence purposes, even counterproductive. As O’Mara guides us through the neuroscience of suffering, he reveals the brain to be much more complex than the brute calculations of torturers have allowed, and he points the way to a humane approach to interrogation, founded in the science of brain and behavior. Torture may be effective in forcing confessions, as in Stalin’s Russia. But if we want information that we can depend on to save lives, O’Mara writes, our model should be Napoleon: “It has always been recognized that this way of interrogating men, by putting them to torture, produces nothing worthwhile.”

The title of my book Creatures of Habit is really all about my journey of addiction and alcoholism. As my addiction took over, it seemed at some point all about the maintenance of staying loaded. The fun of it all quickly slipped away, and it was all about maintaining my high. My hopes and dreams slowly slipped away, and it became all about the drug. Family and friends were a thing of the past, and my entire life revolved around methamphetamine. Creatures of Habit is a book about my twenty-year journey with methamphetamine and how I finally broke the habit and started to recover. I only knew what I knew at the time, and it has taken a lot of hard work to unravel my insanity of addiction and to replace that with focus, foundation, dedication, purpose, and the desire to learn. Creatures of Habit is about how a twenty-year meth user turned his life around and managed to not only get family and friends back in my life but those relationships are better than ever before. New relationships are solid, and I'm no longer putting myself in harm's way. I believe in something much greater than myself today.

The essays unpack the moment we live in, confronting the apocalyptic feelings brought on by nationalism, climate collapse, and the crisis of capitalism, but also delivering the clear message that a new world is possible through the struggles communities are leveraging today. Burley reminds us what we're fighting for not simply what we're fighting against.

Northern Irish poets have been notably reticent when addressing political issues in their work. In Sympathetic Ink, Shane Alcobia-Murphy traces that tendency through the works of Seamus Heaney, Paul Muldoon, and Medbh McGuckian. Using collections of the poets’ papers made only recently available, Alcobia-Murphy focuses on the oblique, subtle strategies they apply to critique contemporary political issues. He employs the concept of sympathetic ink, or invisible ink, arguing that rather than avoiding politics, these poets have, via complex intertextual references and resonances, woven them deeply into the formal construction of their works. Acute and learned, Sympathetic Ink will serve as a perfect introduction to these crucial figures of Irish poetry.
But as A Drink with Shane MacGowan shows, the inspiration for his artistry and beliefs is as varied as his range of mind - embracing Ireland, religion, his family, esoteric philosophy and history."--Jacket.
Formal training in clinical neuropsychology introduces trainees to diverse patient populations with a variety of conditions and disorders. Learning to competently apply a structured, fact-finding approach to case conceptualization, differential diagnosis, and treatment planning is an essential goal at all levels of training. This approach provides a valuable exercise and method of examining practitioner competence. The structured approach to case analysis promotes good clinical decision making, and exercises based on such an approach can help prepare clinicians for the oral exams that are a part of board certification. The Neuropsychology Fact-Finding Casebook is a resource for both supervisors and trainees in clinical neuropsychology, as well as for clinicians preparing for board certification. The volume provides 24 compelling and diverse fact-finding cases, one for each month of a two-year residency. Each case is presented in a stepwise fashion: presenting problem and referral question, background information and patient report, behavioral observations, and test findings. At the end of each case, a summary, diagnostic impression, recommendations, and questions are provided to assess, reinforce, and teach core competencies; an outcome section describes what occurred after the full case evaluation is completed; and critical teaching points are discussed. This Casebook is a standardized approach to fact-finding that training programs at various levels can use to help trainees develop such evaluation skills.

In the midst of his ph.d. studies, David Shane has, yet again, created a book of poetry with his distinctive style and outlook. A quirky take on historical events without regard for the "actual" happenings. He is following the vectors of history rather than the particles of it. Yeah, let us stick with that. Themes of love, as we know them today, are woven in to an otherwise life of "Eh, seen it". Please enjoy!
