In the light of postmodernism's programmatic critique of a humanist notion of the subject and an emphatic understanding of events, Subject of the Event shows that selected American novels after 2000 offer an alternative to the ?death of the subject.? As the first book to comprehensively engage with Alain Badiou's writings outside of a philosophical context, Subject of the Event analyzes five critically acclaimed novels of the new millennium-Cormac McCarthy's The Road (2006), Jess Walter's The Zero (2006), Mark Z. Danielewski's Only Revolutions (2006), Paul Beatty's Slumberland (2008) and Thomas Pynchon's Against the Day (2006)-and argues that they create different 'subjects of the event' that are empowered with ?reagency.? The ?subject of the event? and its empowerment, what this book calls ?reagency,? implies that subjects only evolve out of their confrontation with the revolutionary impetus that events propel. Unlike a humanist capability of having agency, reagency is defined as a repetitive subjective praxis that is contingent upon events, which is given a concrete literary form in the novels under investigation. Sebastian Huber explores how the American penchant for events (?new beginnings,? ?clean slates,? ?apocalypse?) is being critically dealt with in the novels at hand, while still offering an emphatic idea of singular disruptions that open up ways for subjects to affirm and become empowered by the new propositions of these happenings.

The concept of "innovation systems" has gained considerable attention from scholars and politicians alike. The concept promises not only to serve as a tool to explain sustained economic development, but also to provide policy-makers with scientifically grounded policy options to advance the growth of economies. The thrust of much recent literature has been to review existing empirical findings in order to deduce "best practice" models which are assumed to benefit all countries in a similar fashion. However, as this book argues, such ‘universal’ models often fail in both analysis and policy prescriptions, as they do not take into account sufficiently the circumstances and development trajectories of particular countries. With a foreword by Richard Whitley, this book discusses the extent to which the diagnoses and reform recommendations of recent work on innovation theory, and the related policy recommendations, actually apply to Japan and China. Making links between behavioural economics and institutional analysis, the book covers their regulatory framework, legal and science system, the labour and capital market, and intra-firm relations. It examines the present design and reasons underlying the Japanese and Chinese innovation systems, and based on those findings, emphasises the necessity for reform to secure the future competitiveness of both countries. The book is introduced by a foreword by Richard Whitley, Professor of Organisational Sociology at Manchester Business School.

Auf diese Weise lasst sich fehlerhaftes Anlagenverhalten bereits vor der Inbetriebnahme aufdecken und beheben, wodurch die Kosten fur die Fehleranalyse und -korrektur im laufenden Betrieb eingespart werden.

What happens to the Bible when it is used in worship? What does music, choreography, the stringing together of texts, and the architectural setting itself, do to our sense of what the Bible means—and how does that influence our reading of it outside of worship? In Liturgy and Biblical Interpretation, Sebastian Selvén answers questions concerning how the Hebrew Bible is used in Jewish and Christian liturgical traditions and the impact this then has on biblical studies. This work addresses the neglect of liturgy and ritual in reception studies and makes the case that liturgy is one of the major influential forms of biblical reception. The case text is Isaiah 6:3 and its journey through the history of worship. By looking at the Qedushah liturgies in Ashkenazi Judaism and the Sanctus in three church traditions—(pre-1969) Roman Catholicism, Anglicanism (the Church of England), and Lutheranism (Martin Luther, and the Church of Sweden)—influential lines of reception are followed through history. Because the focus is on lived liturgy, not only are worship manuals and prayer books investigated but also architecture, music, and choreography. With an eye to modern-day uses, Selvén traces the historical developments of liturgical traditions. To do this, he has used methodological frameworks from the realm of anthropology. Liturgy, this study argues, plays a significant role in how scholars, clergy, and lay people receive the Bible, and how we understand the way it is to be read and sometimes even edited. Liturgy and Biblical Interpretation will interest scholars of the Bible, liturgy, and church history, as well as Jewish and Christian clergy.

Inhaltsangabe:Abstract: At the moment bonus programs are alone or in combination with other instruments - one of the most successful and most often used marketing instruments in B2C markets, to retain customers by giving them a bonus for loyal behaviour. A typical bonus program of this kind is Payback. The problem is that still there is little known about why customers participate in bonus programs and that especially the crucial aspect rewards management (also bonus management) is the blind spot of the marketing theory on hand. On the background of high investments in bonus programs and their rewards on the one hand and unclear reasons for the different success of bonus sets on the other hand this is an unsatisfactory situation. The target is therefore to show how bonus programs work and how rewards management is integrated in such a bonus program. Furthermore it is the target to show how rewards management can contribute to program success, how a rewards concept has to be set up and which possibilities (e.g. type of reward) there are for setting up a successful bonus set. To reach this a compilation of the scattered but carefully selected information in marking literature, papers, articles and further sources also from non-economic ones like psychology, a systematization of the findings and drawing of conclusions from this gives a clearer picture and helps to give recommendations for setting up a successful rewards management. For backing up the findings the results of an especially therefore carried out online survey get used. The decision to start with a bonus program must be based on the likeliness of the expected benefits that can be higher perceived product value, customer satisfaction, loyalty, from that customer equity and company value and cost savings as well as additional sales and cross and up-selling. Of course these benefits are strongly influenced by the customer retention potential of the bonus program set-up. The customer retention can be influenced through bonus programs by both psychological causes (e.g. satisfaction) as well as by rewarding the customer for certain behaviour. Because everybody can reward the customers the type of bonus / reward is decisive. The type of reward belongs to the burning mechanism of a bonus program.
