Best-selling author Thomas Friedman says that globalization has made the world flat and that we cannot stop the process. But while it is right to say that globalization tends to flatten our world, it is wrong to say that there are no alternatives to current patterns of economic, ecological, political, and cultural integration. This book argues that the Christian liturgical calendar provides a constructive alternative to the globalization of economics, ecologies, politics, and cultures. It does so by incorporating the church into the fullness of time in the gospel narrative, thereby helping us escape from the dead end of Friedman's flat world so that we can improvise healthier ways of being globally integrated.
With the resurgence of vinyl going from strength to strength, album cover art is as important as it's ever been. This sumptuous book brings together 250 of the greatest album covers of all time and is arranged chronologically, beginning in 1956. Our judging panel, drawn from the great and the good of the music industry, has selected the final 275 entries, giving their reasons for selection to accompany the illustrations. From rock ‘n’ roll to pop, R&B to jazz, blues and even folk, some of the album covers included are obvious classics, while others will surprise readers and jog memories. The chosen entries might not necessarily be of a best-selling release, but they are important artistically, stylistically or culturally. This fascinating book forms a wonderful visual record of this popular art form, and is an essential read for music fans the world over.
Is business just a way to make money? Or can the marketplace be a venue for service to others? Scott B. Rae and Kenman L. Wong seek to explore this and other critical business issues from a uniquely Christian perspective, offering up a vision for work and service that is theologically grounded and practically oriented.

Since its inception, Scott has grown from a small farming community to the second-largest city in Lafayette Parish. Early settlers provided land to the Louisiana Western Railroad Company for a new route to Texas that passed through Scott Station, named after a Mr. Scott associated with the railroad. The town's slogan, "Where the West Begins," is based on the different train fare charged to passengers headed beyond Scott to the West. The murder of merchant Martin Begnaud by the Blanc brothers was news that traveled from Scott to New Orleans to France. The railroad enabled the community to transport cotton, corn, sweet potatoes, and other produce across the country and to Canada. Today, several renowned musicians and artists call Scott home. The city, which is located on Interstate 10, combines small-town hospitality with a growing center of commerce.
