In recent Congresses, roughly half of the members of the U.S. House of Representatives served in whip organizations and on party committees. According to Scott R. Meinke, rising electoral competition and polarization over the past 40 years have altered the nature of party participation. In the 1970s and 1980s, the participation of a wide range of members was crucial to building consensus. Since then, organizations responsible for coordination in the party have become dominated by those who follow the party line. At the same time, key leaders in the House use participatory organizations less as forums for internal deliberations over policy and strategy than as channels for exchanging information with supporters outside Congress, and broadcasting sharply partisan campaign messages to the public.
Digital technology has become integral in the fields of health and care, and a number of recent reports have stressed the importance of equipping health and care staff with the skills and knowledge they need to use such technology effectively. Numerous failures of digital projects in the health and care sectors have demonstrated that simply relocating IT generalists into these specialist fields is not a guaranteed formula for success; the unique complexities of the typically under-resourced legacy infrastructures of health and care create challenges that demand specific education and training. This book presents the proceedings of the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) 2022 Special Topic Conference (STC), held in Cardiff, Wales, on 7-8 September 2022. The theme of STC 2022 was Digital Professionalism in Health and Care: Developing the Workforce, Building the Future, which emphasized the vital need for professional education, training and continuing development of the health and care informatics workforce. The 30 full papers and 5 posters in this book cover a broad range of topics and methods in informatics education and training, and include a small selection from the wider sub-domains of biomedical informatics. Providing a valuable overview of current methods and training, the book will be of interest to a wide range of professionals working in healthcare today, especially those involved in equipping the workforce with the skills they will need for the digital future.

Agroforestry is recognized as a sustainable land-use management in the tropics, as it provides environmental-friendly ecosystems; it also provides people with their every day need for food and cash. Since the recognition of agroforestry as a science, curricula have been developed for agroforestry programs for undergraduate and graduate trainings in Universities. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop and make available educational material. This textbook strives to provide up-to-date information on tropical agroforestry to serve as educational material in the tropical context. The authoritative textbook of Nair (1993) on agroforestry was published 18 years ago, and before the advent of tree domestication, an important agroforestry practice today. In addition, many other research activities, such as carbon sequestration and integrated pest management, have been included in the agroforestry agenda. This textbook is intended for agroforestry students, teachers, and practitioners.
By Warren Burggren, University of North Texas; Jay Brewster, Pepperdine University; Laurel Hester, South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics.Rather than repeat what is covered in the textbook, the Student Study Guide will help students study biology and think like a scientist. Introductory chapters on Data Interpretation, Looking for Relationships, Experimentation and Writing will be illustrated and developed for the student. Each text chapter will then be covered with the goal of reinforcing the ideas mentioned in introductory chapters and to tie them to appropriate topics within a chapter.

Thomas Soria appeared to be a devoted single parent to his son Thomas Sorea, Jr. known as "T.J." - even as he seduced the youngster, turning him into a sex slave. When T.J. reached dating age, he pimped his girlfriends to his dad and watched while they had sex. But it wasn't enough. Soria Sr's fantasies turned increasingly violent, culminating in an obsession with cutting and torturing young females while sexually assaulting them. On March 19 2000, in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, T.J., 19, lured 9-year-old Krystal Steadman into the family apartment. 40-year-old Soria Sr brutally raped the girl, then stabbed her to death. He wasn't worried - he knew T.J. would get rid of the body for him.

Joey Boots was best known for his regular contributions to the Howard Stern Radio Show. While not quite officially a member of Stern's collection of oddball characters known as the Wack Pack, Boots and his antics were key components of the show for years. Behind the shenanigans like the trademark live TV interruptions of news reports that came to be known as "Booey bombs," Joey Boots lived a unique and troublesome life. A childhood of abuse and constant feelings of isolation led to regular encounters with the law as Boots neared adulthood. He rambled from pastime to pastime-some good, some less healthy. He spent time as both a volunteer firefighter and serial arsonist before taking a job on an Alaskan fishing ship and later enlisting in the US Army. Through it all, Boots grappled with his own sexuality and substance abuse issues. The Joey Boots Chronicles captures the wild tale of Boots's life as told in his own voice, much of it for the very first time. It's a raw, graphic, and honest look into the struggles and successes along a most peculiar journey and the one-of-a-kind man behind it all.
