The wide range of topics covered include the priority of being over thought, reversing the traditional emphasis in the West; transcendence as an everyday phenomenon; the prefiguration of the good society in the characteristic labour of women; the metacritique of Nietzsche and Derrida, and of Marx and Marxism; recognition and immortality; and the principle of hermeticism: there is no authority but yourself. The book will appeal to anyone wanting to understand Roy Bhaskar’s thought, and offers a valuable resource for students and scholars interested in critical realism and its development.
Vasant and Kanchan are a young, loving married couple. One day Kanchan happens to buy a painting of a young western woman, painted by a French artist, many decades ago. A friend and colleague of Vasant, Dr Sarkar, likes the painting so much that Kanchan gifts it away to him. Then a curious thing happens one night. While travelling on a train, Dr Sarkar meets a young woman, who is a replica of the woman in the painting, except for her Indian complexion. This woman is Chitra. The mainstream of the story is the bonding between a poor orphaned Chitra, hounded by past terrors, and Dr Sarkar, who has an extremely wealthy background, and a stable, staid persona. This is a story that explores the events in people's lives, and the role of karma in fashioning our destiny, and in entitling us to divine help and intervention. Thus the story follows the possible destinations that our life could head towards in this world and beyond.

Bedrock rivers play a key role in the evolution of erosional landscapes. They set the base level for hillslopes, transport sediment to depositional basins, and communicate changes in tectonic and climatic boundary conditions throughout the landscape (Whipple, 2004). In recent years, considerable attention has been given to bedrock channel morphology and dynamics and to fluvial erosion processes (Howard, 1994; Wohl et al., 1994; Tinkler and Wohl, 1998; Stock and Montgomery, 1999; Whipple et al., 2000; Lavé and Avouac, 2001; Wohl and Merritt, 2001; Hartshorn et al., 2002; Van der Beek and Bishop, 2003; Snyder et al., 2003a,b; Duvall et al., 2004; Finnegan et al., 2005; Stock et al., 2005; Stark, 2006; Wobus et al., 2006a,b; Whittaker et al., 2007, Gilbert, 1877; Howard, 1980; Howard et al., 1994; Montgomery et al., 1996, Whipple 2004. Bedrock channels lack a continuous cover of alluvial sediments, even at low flow, and exist only where transport capacity exceeds sediment flux over the long term.

One day when I was lazily sitting in my balcony, I saw a bird's nest in one corner of the balcony. I removed it and cleaned the balcony properly with the hope that the little bird would not dare to build its nest again. To my surprise, after few days, again I noticed the little bird, busy in collecting small pieces of straw, hay, dry leaves etc. for making her nest at the same place.
Nearly eighty years on and fifty years after India became independent, the Jallianwalal Bagh massacre is still surrounded by controversy. It is an even which many claim as a major turning point in the history of British rule of India. The massacre was a horrific illustration of the Raj at its worst, leading many Indian politicians to the conclusion that independence was the only way forward. The Jallianwala Bagh Massacre, 1919 is an objective study of the events surrounding the massacre and its aftermath. It looks at how the massacre has been depicted by both Indian and British historian, and by writers of other nationalities. It reveal how the event has been used in arguments for and against the British colonisation of India, and colonialism in general. This study provides a unique objective insight into the massacre and the way it has been portrayed in history. The objective approach shown by the writer may be a reflection of her British Asian background. Savita Narain has lived in Britain all her life, but her family in India had a strong involvement with the independence movement. Her great-uncle, Sir Shiv Prasad, was made President of Ballia region, Uttar Pradesh, when it declared swaraj sarkar (people’s government) from the British on 20 August when the British regained control.
India is basically an agricultural country and about 70 %% of its people live in villages. Their livelihood is dependent mainly on agriculture and animal husbandry, and therefore, development of agriculture plays a vital role in the progress of our country. Indian agricultural production strategies are being managed and implemented in such a way to raise socioeconomically status of farmers holding small pieces of land. Urbanisation, industrialisation, education, improved communication and transport facilities are helping to improve prevailing socioeconomic disparities. If it comes true, the situation will arise, in which the people in India instead of being viewed as "problems and liabilities" will be looked upon as "opportunities and assets".

This book covers two increasingly prominent aspects of dentistry: nanotechnology and ozone. Nanotechnology has rapidly expanded into all areas of science; it offers significant alternative ways of solving scientific and medical questions and problems. In dentistry, nanotechnology has been exploited in the development of restorative materials with significant success. The recent advances in nanotechnology could hold promise in bringing about a paradigm shift in the dental field. Although there are numerous complex therapies being developed to treat many diseases, their clinical use requires careful consideration of the expense of synthesis and implementation. The world is moving towards non-invasive methods of treatment and the principle of ‘extension for prevention’ is losing its popularity. The energized form of oxygen is ozone, which has varied properties like anti-microbial activity, biocompatibility, disinfection and healing properties. As such, this book shows that it has a major scope of application in the fields of medicine and dentistry.

German Botanist Frank (1885) coined the term mycorrhizae for the first time to designate the symbiotic relationship between the fungi and plant roots. Since then scientists started exploiting them for the welfare of mankind. The term ‘mycorrhiza’ in its broadest sense is the non-pathogenic association of fungi and the roots of higher plants. The root- fungus association is symbiotic and the whole association is being considered as a ‘’functionally distinct organ’’ involved in mineral nutrient uptake from the soil. (Kar, 1993).
There has been a long history of addressing women's rights and much progress has been made in securing it across the world in recent decades. However, important gaps remain and women's realities are constantly changing, with new manifestations of discrimination against them which emerges regularly. Some groups of women face additional forms of discrimination based on their age, ethnicity, nationality, religion, health status, marital status, education, disability and socio-economic status, among other grounds.
This book provides detailed information about peptides and dendrimers and their application in dentistry. Modern peptide and dendrimer chemistry techniques are being used by dental researchers to identify, prevent, and possibly treat oral disorders. Even though the research on peptide chemistry and oral/dental health is still in its early stages, it has already yielded some promising findings that, if developed further, might have a positive impact on all of our health and help both sectors' research paradigms. The book was written for those interested in research on novel materials in the field of dentistry, and will open numerous doors for new research in the field of preventive dentistry.
Born into a middle-class, Sarasvat Brahmin family, Dr Sharada Kabir met and got to know Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar as a patient riddled with life-threatening diseases, and eventually married him on 15 April 1948, getting rechristened as Savita Ambedkar. From the day of their wedding to the death of Dr Ambedkar on 6 December 1956, she aided him in some of his greatest achievements-drafting the Constitution of India, framing the Hindu Code Bill, writing some of his most celebrated books, including The Buddha and His Dhamma, and leading millions of Dalits into Buddhism. Following his death, she was hounded into obscurity by some of Dr Ambedkar's followers, who saw her as a threat to their political ambitions. She re-emerged into public life in 1970 and got back to working on the mission to which her husband had devoted his life-the welfare of the Dalit community. Her autobiography, Dr Ambedkaraanchya Sahavaasaat, was first published in Marathi in 1990. This English translation by Nadeem Khan unearths a much valuable and forgotten account, an intimate portrait of one of the greatest figures of the twentieth century. A tenacious fighter, an outstanding scholar and an iconic leader, Dr B.R. Ambedkar was all that and more. Savita Ambedkar brings alive a different side of her husband: a man who wrote romantic letters, dictated what she should wear, whipped up delicious mutton curry, played the violin, and even tried his hand at sculpting. This is a book that humanizes Ambedkar as no other book has done yet.
