The book entitled “Disease Problems in Vegetable Production” 2nd edition, is specifically prepared for under and post graduate students in Agriculture/ Horticulture and range of professionals including teachers, researchers, extension plant pathologists and elite vegetable growers. The book gives a comprehensive over-view of economic importance, symptomatology, etiology, pre-disposing factors and management of vegetable diseases employing cultural, biological, host resistance, plant extracts and chemical methods as such and in anintegrated approach so that the ravages due to the diseases remain below economic threshold level. A total of 19 chapters dealing with important diseases of vegetables like potato, tomato, crucifers, cucurbits, pea, French bean, chillies and bell pepper, onion, garlic, eggplant, carrot, sugar beet, colocasia, okra and leafy vegetables have been compiled in this book. Two new chapters on diseases of ginger and diseases of vegetables under protected cultivation as well as some important diseases of different vegetable crops left out in the first edition have been added in this edition. Besides, the book also includes chapters on common pathogens of vegetable crops, disease problems in nurseries, post harvest diseases and diseases caused by nematodes. All chapters have been updated in the light of available literature up to 2017. Symptoms, disease cycles of important diseases and different structures of pathogen(s) have also been given in the book that will not only help in better diagnosis and understanding of the perpetuation and spread of the causal pathogens but will also help in the management of these diseases more effectively. Coloured photographs of disease symptoms have also been included for easy identification of vegetable diseases.

Transgenic technologies are used for improving milk production and the meat in farm animals as well as for creating models of human diseases. Transgenic animals are used for the production of proteins for human medical use. Biotechnology is applied to facilitate xenotransplantation from animals to humans. Genetic engineering is done in farm animals and nuclear transfer technology has become an important and preferred method for cloning animals. Biotechnology has potential applications in the management of several animal diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, classical swine fever, avian flue and bovine spongiform encephalopathy. The most important biotechnology based products consist of vaccines, particularly genetically engineered or DNA vaccines. Gene therapy for diseases of pet animals is a fast developing area because many of the technologies used in clinical trials humans were developed in animals and many of the diseases of cats and dogs are similar to those in humans. RNA interference technology is now being applied for research in veterinary medicine. Molecular diagnosis is assuming an important place in veterinary practice. Polymerase chain reaction and its modifications are considered to be important. Fluorescent in situ hybridization and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays are also widely used. Newer biochip-based technologies and biosensors are also finding their way in veterinary diagnostics. This book is an attempt to unravel the mysteries of biotechnology as it affects animal health and production.

The book is the first to focus on the physical oceanography of the North Indian Ocean (NIO), a special region of the global ocean that exhibits a distinct seasonality due to the impact of the South Asian Monsoon (SAM). It is written as a textbook about the NIO for graduate students, lecturers, and researchers in physical oceanography. It will also be useful for courses on the interior, coastal, and equatorial dynamics in any other ocean. It helps readers, particularly new entrants to the field, to gain a comprehensive understanding of tropical-ocean dynamics by: developing from first principles the equation set for the linear continuously stratified (LCS) model, which has long been used to study tropical oceans; and then obtaining solutions that explore different aspects of the dynamics. Part 1 of the book provides an overview of observed ocean circulations and forcing functions in the NIO that are linked to the SAM. Part 2 develops the equations of motion for the LCS model. Part 3 (Free Waves) and Part 4 (Forced Solutions) derive and discuss analytic solutions to the LCS model that illustrate basic processes in the interior (unbounded), coastal, and equatorial regions of the ocean. The last two chapters of Part 4 consider more complicated processes and phenomena that build upon the simpler solutions previously found: vertical propagation of coastal and equatorial waves, and the Indian Ocean's shallow overturning circulations. Each analytic solution is illustrated (and extended) by a suite of numerical LCS solutions presented as video clips, providing a powerful means for visualizing complex processes.

This book has given an overview of the sol-gel auto-combustion preparation method and characterization of Ni0.5Co0.5FeCrO4. This work focused on the structural properties XRD,TGA, SEM, TEM, FTIR, Magnetic Properties, Dielectric Properties were measured.By using the TG curve the exact temperature of formation of ferrite phase was obtained.The properties such as dielectric constant, dielectric loss tangent as a function of frequency and temperature. The addition of chromium in nickel – cobalt ferrite significantly changes the electrical and magnetic properties. Nickel and cobalt ferrites are inverse ferrites and hence for x £ 1, nickel ferrite shows structure of inverse spinel and for x >1, the inverse structure converted into normal structure. The crystal structure of ferrite, cation distribution, synthesis route, sintering conditions, amount and type of impurity addition decides the electric and magnetic properties of ferrites. Same ferrite with different crystalline size shows different properties. The electrical and magnetic properties even structural properties of ferrites at nano-crystalline phase shows significantly difference than the bulk one. In the present investigation we have presented the results on structural and magnetic properties of Ni0.5Co0.5FeCrO4 sintered at 5000C, 6000C, 7000C and 8000C for 6h.
