I started writing these poems in May 2016 as a way of distilling issues I often think about. I was seeking clarity of thought in preparation for visits with a therapist. Some poems are memories. Some are issues I struggle with in my life. Some are lessons I need to learn. Some are moments I want to hold dear. Nonreaders can read and understand the poems because they are simple and very clear. Even rereading is pleasurable, in the same way its enjoyable to play a piano piece learned many years ago. The issues are timeless for people of all ages. Hopefully, a reader will be reminded of a similar experience in his or her life. These are topics of the human condition as seen from a lifetime of experiences of joy, sadness, lessons to be learned, and lessons to share. It incorporates mindfulness and meditation and encourages peace of mind, personal growth, and honesty. The book represents courage to look at reality without pressure for perfection and with hope for being your best and brightest each day.
In Luke-Acts, Jesus can be seen to take on the attributes of the Davidic shepherd king, a representation successfully conveyed through specific narrative devices. The presence of the shepherds in the birth narrative can be understood as an indication of this understanding of Jesus. Sarah Harris analyses the multiple ways scholars have viewed the shepherds as characters in the narrative, and uses this as an example of how the theme of Jesus' shepherd nature is interwoven into the narrative as a whole. From the starting point of Jesus' human life, Harris moves to later events portrayed in Jesus' ministry in which he is seen to enact his message as God's faithful Davidic shepherd, in particular, the parable of the Lost Sheep and the Zacchaeus pericope (19:1-10). Harris uses this latter encounter to underline that Jesus may be hailed as a King by the crowds as he enters Jerusalem, but he is not simply a king. He is God's Davidic Shepherd King, as prophesied in Micah 5 and Ezekiel 34, who brings the gospel of peace and salvation to the earth.

Samuel A. Burney, born in April 1840, was the son of Thomas Jefferson Burney and Julia Shields Burney. He graduated from Mercer University (then at Penfield, Georgia) in 1860. He joined the Panola Guards, an infantry component of Thomas R. R. Cobb's Georgia Legion, in July 1861. For the next four years he served in the Army of Northern Virginia both in Virginia and in Tennessee. Burney was wounded at Chancellorsville in May 1863, and as a result of his wound he was placed in disability in March 1864 and served the remainder of the war on commissary duty in southwest Georgia. After the war, Burney returned to Mercer's school of theology, was ordained into the Baptist ministry, and served as pastor of several churches in Morgan County. He was pastor of the Madison Baptist Church until shortly before his death in 1896. These letters of a college graduate written to his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd Burney are lyrical and beautifully written. Burney describes battles, camp life, theology, and the day-to-day dreariness of life in the army. This is an astounding collection of letters for anyone interested in the Civil War, or the South.

You can take down an individual, you can take down an organization, but you can't destroy a movement." Paul Watson Captain Paul Watson, honored with the Jules Verne Award for his environmental activism in 2012, is a fighter with a clear mission: to protect the world's oceans from illegal exploitation and environmental destruction. "If the oceans die, we die." For decades, Paul Watson has risked his life for the conservation and well-being of marine life. At the age of 27, he founded the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. In 1978, the Sea Shepherd became the first ship of the now world-famous fleet with the Jolly Roger flag, modified with a trident and shepherd's crook. In a new expanded edition, including a second interview and numerous extraordinary images from the Sea Shepherd archives, Watson vividly recounts the exciting stages of his unique life, opening up an exclusive insight into his highly politicized arrest in Frankfurt in 2012 and his adventurous escape that sent him on a nerve-wracking journey filled with storms and obstacles.
