Divided We Govern investigates the rise and fall of the broader parliamentary left in modern Indian democracy, and the dynamics of national coalition governments. Since the 1970s, socialist, communist and regional parties in India have sought to forge a progressive 'third force'. Most scholars typically dismiss its principal manifestations -- the Janata Party, National Front and United Front -- as inherently opportunistic coalitions of power-seeking politicians. Sanjay Ruparelia provides a fine-grained analytic narrative to challenge this prevailing wisdom. Employing a variety of methods and resources, including the rare confidential testimonies of key political actors, Ruparelia demonstrates how the politics of each governing coalition, despite their self-evident flaws and short-lived tenures, revealed the outlines of a distinctive national vision. His fresh analysis of the politics of coalition in India also yields wider theoretical insights. Most studies fail to question or explain how these multiparty governments actually functioned. Hence they overstate the stability of and polarity between multiple political motivations, Ruparelia contends, discounting internal party debates over whether to share power, with whom and to what extent, and how. In such circumstances, the strategies, tactics and choices of actors become especially significant. The pursuit of power in a highly regionalized federal parliamentary democracy such as India creates incentives to forge national coalition governments, yet paradoxically decreases their chances of surviving. Ultimately, the failure of socialists and communists to judge their real historical possibilities at key junctures led to the decline of the broader Indian left.

Hyderabad cricket has had a long and colourful history involving flamboyant players with interesting stories behind them. The game was first patronized by the aristocrats of the region especially Nawab Moin ud Dowla Bahadur who was a great cricket lover and ensured that the leading names of the pre-independence period were seen in action in Hyderabad. Players like CK Nayudu, Lala Amarnath, Mohammed Nissar and Englishmen such as Jack Hobbs and Bert Sutcliffe played on the fields of Hyderabad back then. There was a man named Syed Mohammad Hadi who represented India in the Davis Cup and also scored the first ever century in the Ranji trophy back in the 1930s. Hadi was talented in so many sports that someone nicknamed him Rainbow Hadi. He had as many skills as the colours of a rainbow. This book chronicles the beginnings and subsequent development of Hyderabad cricket right up to its present time and status. There was an aura about cricket in Hyderabad that was in keeping with the culture and ethos of the city. The lifestyle of Hyderabad was unique in the sense that it reflected the language and attitudes of the people who live in the city. It also had an effect on the way the game was played in this region. There are insights into the lives and careers of players such as M.L. Jaisimha, Mohammed Azharuddin, V.V.S. Laxman, Venkatapathy Raju and many others. Their exclusive comments and interviews with the author are fascinating to read

At a time when businesses stare at unprecedented uncertainty, the SAIL turnaround story brings to us lessons of how companies can make miracles happen. Making the Elephant Dance talks about how the greatest business challenges can become the harbinger of the biggest corporate transformations, and how leadership can be the key influencer when companies face existential threats. The economic reforms of 1991 transformed the Indian steel industry overnight from the most controlled to most open. This book is a narrative of the steel mammoth, SAIL, which fought back an existential threat to emerge as a winner when a combination of domestic and global factors plunged the industry into its worst ever crisis. The book delineates its in-house strategies, implementation challenges and the actions undertaken to bring about an unprecedented organizational transformation by those who participated, experienced and lived it.
The present book investigates various dimensions of environmental protection and degradation. It contain original and review research articles from science as well as literature fields. Broadly speaking it covers the areas like environmental degradation, issues of pollution, geo-environmental predicament, Eco criticism and environmental consciousness in English literature. The main purpose of the book is to investigate present predicament of environmental degradation and to discuss the possible solutions in a scientific way for the protection of environment. At present the books available on the topic of environmental protection does not cover all the dimensions and most of them are particular path oriented like resources on biodiversity, pollution, etc. the present book fulfils this lacuna and explores environment from various perspectives in a scientific way. The book also discusses reflection of environmental consciousness in literature. Since environmental degradation and protection is a multi-layered phenomenon, this book will be helpful to the teachers, students and researchers who wish to understand various dimensions of the environmental issues with possible scientific solutions.
It is a matter of both honour and pleasure for us as editors of this much awaited an edited book on the current topic like ‘Nepotism’. Writing a preface for this book on Nepotism is itself a separate and great experience. Actually, this book is an outcome or the result of great endurance and painstaking efforts taken by all of us. Prof. Dr. Manoj Bhagat has done a sincere job of proofreading and he has taken care of all the technical aspects from the first day of collections of all research papers and articles up to compilation of them properly for this edited book. Of course, Prof. Dr. Sanjay Deosthale stood along with us in the complete process of this book, his guidance proved to be fruitful as an outcome of the final copy of ‘Nepotism’ book. It was really a laborious as well as difficult task to call a research paper or article on such a hot topic which has influenced almost all areas of life and work, but ultimately, we could do it with cooperation and team spirit within us. I must be grateful to Prof. Dr. Manoj Bhagat for suggestion to work on the selected topic i.e. Nepotism and bring it into the form of an edited book. Now, this most debatable topic like Nepotism has attracted the attention of critics and readers towards it. It has not only come up as a separate branch of study in humanities, social science and other correlated subjects also.

Evolution is an exquisite artist, even if an unconscious one.'- Eric Dinerstein The leopard is perhaps one of the world's most beautiful creatures. The spots on its body are even romantically called 'rosettes'. It is social but solitary, inconspicuous but significant in numbers, large but elusive, and does not fit any of the pigeonholes of large-cat conservation. In India, the leopard is a poster boy of the fight to preserve wildlife, but in many countries, it faces either ecological or local extinction. A worrying phenomenon, given that these cats carry out important ecosystem services that have not been fully understood yet. In Leopard Diaries: The Rosette in India, Sanjay Gubbi, who has studied and documented the leopard for nearly a decade, gives us a close look at this fascinating creature. From detailing its food habits to throwing new light on how the young are reared, from offering suggestions on tackling leopard-human conflict to imagining the future of this arresting animal, this book is a 360-degree view of the leopard, its ecological context, its fraught relationship with the human world, and how wildlife and human beings can find a way to co-exist.

Today, with the pervasive impact of globalization and liberalization sweeping across the globe, exerting its influence on both the developed and the developing nations, business is no more confined to the national borders of a country. More and more companies are spreading their business to markets abroad (for example, Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys Technologies spreading their business to USA and elsewhere) or acquiring new companies (for instance, Tata acquiring the Corus and the Land Rover and Jaguar, or reversely, Vodafone acquiring Hutch). International business, therefore, has become such an important area of study for students of management and commerce. This comprehensive and easy-to-read text tries to lay bare the ramifications and complexities of international business. Divided into six sections, the book provides a harmonious blend of concepts and applications of international business. What distinguishes the text is the emphasis it lays on the Indian cases and the Indian scenario through the provision of many cases and illustrative examples. However, the book goes beyond the Indian context by giving international cases, thus imbuing the text with a global business flavour. Key Features The case studies discussed include the cases such as Tata Motors, Hindustan Unilever, Ranbaxy, McDonald, Nokia, Microsoft and Walt Disney. The opening case in each chapter introduces the students to a real-life example, followed by the text which provides the theoretical knowledge on the subject. The concluding case study correlates the theoretical knowledge with the real-life situation. Review questions are cited after every case study to check students’ comprehension of the subject. Primarily intended as a text for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Business Administration, MBA, MIB and postgraduate students of Commerce, the book would be of great value also to practising managers.
