It has been growing since signing of international treaty in1994 by Indian government. Since then, India has been emerging as one of the major giant in the field of Information Technology Enabled Services (ITES) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO). According to National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), IT Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector has been contributing 7.5 per cent of India’s GDP, 25 per cent of India’s total export and 10 per cent of total service sector revenue in 2010-11. IT services is the fastest growing segment among the others, it has been growing by 22.7 per cent, and generating export revenue (including hardware) of $69 billion. The share of software service exports from India was recorded around 58 per cent of the total global software service exports in 2011-12. This study is conducted to explore the contribution of Indian software firms in the development of Indian economy since its inception along with it emergence as one of the new industry on the map of Indian corporate and the world. We identify the challenges faced by these industries in general and issues in financing of these firms particular. For this task, we organize the present study into eight chapters. This study explores the drivers of Indian software industry growth, for that we run linear regression. We empirically test the impact of new economic reforms on the Indian software industry. Using the various econometric techniques, before and after the introduction of economic reforms period growth rate is compared to know whether there is any change in the growth story of the Indian software firms during the reforms period. Present study reviews the employment growth in Indian IT-BPO firms and also tests empirical relationship between export revenue of IT-BPO firms and employment growth in software industry. Main focus of the study is to find out the issues in financing of the new economy firms in India. In the broad perspective, this study is pursued for finding out which sources of finance are being tapped by these firms for financing themselves. In order to test hypotheses relating to drivers of software industry growth in India, regression I and II have been run and results appeared thereof shows that the coefficient values of the variables, money supply (M3GDP), domestic capital formation ( DCGDP), opening of economy (OPGDP) and stock foreign exchange (FRGDP) are significant at 10%,

It asks three sets of related questions: (a) what are the origins of demands for ethnic homelands? (b) why does migration continue to be such an overarching oeuvre in political discourse in Assam and how does one engage with new forms of mobility? (c) how does a society recover from counterinsurgency and what are the new forms of militarisation that are emerging in the present? Working on the main argument that demands for autonomy and social justice have been central themes that have been historically articulated in Assam, it shows the tensions that arise in explanations about causes of conflict in the state. These tensions, I argue, are best understood through a critical engagement with everyday politics of organisations and individuals working on the ground. Although there is a general tendency to read conflict in Assam through the lenses of ethnicity and development, nevertheless there is evidence to show that affect offers an additional analytical tool because of its ability to offer a layered, sometimes paradoxical account of events and situations that cause conflicts in the region.

The knowledge disseminated by universities and mobilized by states to govern populations has been globally dominant for more than a century. It first emerged in the early modern period in Europe and subsequently became globalized through colonialism. Despite the historical and cultural specificity of its origins, modern Western knowledge was thought to have transcended its particularities such that, unlike pre-modern and non-Western knowledges, it was "universal," or true for all times and places. In this bold and ambitious book, Sanjay Seth argues that modern knowledge and the social sciences are a product of Western modernity claiming a spurious universality: that what we treat as the "truths" discovered by social scientific reason are instead a parochial knowledge. Drawing upon and deriving its critical energies principally from postcolonial theory, Beyond Reason traverses many disciplines, including science studies, social history, art and music history, political science, and anthropology, and engages with a range of contemporary thinkers including Butler, Habermas, Chakrabarty, Chatterjee, and Rawls. It demonstrates that while global in their impact, the social sciences do not and cannot transcend the Western historical and cultural circumstances in which they emerged. If the social sciences are not explained and validated simply by the fact that they are "true," it becomes possible to ask what purpose they serve, what it is that they "do." A defining feature of modern knowledge is that it is divided into disciplines, each with its own object of inquiry and corresponding protocols, and thus asking what such knowledge "does" requires asking what purpose disciplines serve. It also requires asking what ways of understanding the world they facilitate and what they disallow. Beyond Reason proceeds to anatomize the disciplines of history and political science to ask what representations and relations with the past and with politics these academic disciplines enable, and what ways of understanding and engaging the world they foreclose.

Preface Social networking sites (SNS’s) have become imperative to the lives of youth today. They are a compulsive and addictive behavior to our modern adolescence. Facebook, twitter, orkut, linkedin and other networking sites have not only given them a platform to interact, discuss and remain in touch with their loved ones who live at places across the globe but also to voice their opinions on social issues. It has created nothing less than a revolution across the world. The recent Jan Lokpal Bill Movement led by Anna Hajare and his team, and Nirbhaya Gang Rape case movement are uprising examples of SNS’s where youths created mass awareness across the society. They not only participated to create a movement but also voiced their opinions through the various social networking sites mobilizing people to sign online petitions, sending them across to the respective authorities. It was an eye opening example for any country and the government to understand the power of Social networking sites. The SNS’s have made a significant change in their personal and social lives, and played a crucial role in breaking boundaries, crossing nations, enabling them to communicate and share their view on issues like violation of human rights, girl’s education, 10 • Social Media and Indian Youth adverse effects of global warming, wrong deeds of political leaders, crime against women, corruption etc. On one hand where social networking sites empower the youth and enable them to grow up to their social circle in terms of their own acquaintances, on the other it raises many questions about their life styles, safety, privacy and legal issues. The study is an attempt to understand the impact of these networking sites on the life styles of Indian youths and also to form opinion about their thoughts, sociological and psychological change in their Behavior. There is no doubt Social media industry in India is run by young and educated youths in big cities and town. According to Analysis and Outlook Social Media in India 2011 and 2012, Indian SNS market saw a tremendous growth in the rise of the number of users and their participations and the amout of time spent. While Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in their report status “there has been rapid rise in the number of internet users in India, it has reached 21 million users in 2011. Broadband too has seen significant growth in 2011with13.30 million users (22%, Youth Organizations Umbrella, Inc. Y. O. U) compared to 10.92 million users in 2010 and was expected to reach 15.9 million users by end of 2012. 80% of the internet users are urban users and 20% are rural users in India and educated young people. Indians migrate to United States (US) for education and jobs and most of them will be in constant touch with friends and families which led to the rise in usage of social networks and it is further expected to increase as US companies set up offices in India employing thousands of people here. Apart from this more technology related products like mobiles, laptops, other computing devices like PCs, tablets and finally the voyeuristic appeal with open networks will drive the usage further. Most popular social networking site in India is Facebook as recently it dethroned Indonesia from the number two slot with 46 million monthly active users in February 2012 on the site, an increase of 132% from the prior year. Urban cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and other tier 1and 2 cities and towns dominate the social networking usage in India. 75% is dominated by male and mostly the young students and professionals in the age group of 18-24 are dominating the social media usage followed by the 25- 34 age group. They spend hours every month on the various social networking sites and actively engage with friends and others. Most of the users are using social media to stay in touch with friends, track and update their activities, social gaming, follow groups and communities, discuss social, political cultural and entertainment topics and also look for information about brands, products and also provide their feedback.” Apart from the significant conceptual, theoritical and related aspects of SMS, the book presents a research analysis, gathering data across Delhi and Mumbai City from 550 respondents exploring the broad dimensions of the impact of social networking sites on the Indian youths, changing mind sets and their life styles. Further it also explores the potential possibilities for developing a knowledge based society and enhancing the quality of life. The book is of immense importance to the ones, who wants to understand social media and its importance on Indian youths. It will provide an insight to the students, educationists, researchers, media planners, social media users and policy makers. Naipaul’s Journeys, Sanjay Krishnan offers new perspectives on the distinctiveness and power of Naipaul’s writing, as well as his shortcomings, trajectory, and complicated legacy. While recognizing the flaws and prejudices that shaped and limited Naipaul’s life and art, this book challenges the binaries that have dominated discussions of his writing.
