While in high school, Mr. Curtis Sterling, editor, owner, and publisher of the Brownfield News, paid me twenty-five cents an inch for what was intended to be a gossip column from the high school. It was not until my thirtieth high school reunion that I discovered I had had no idea what was really going on in my high school because I was too busy making us sound like Archie, Veronica, Betty, and Jughead. My writing skills improved after I learned to tell the truth.
