One of the biggest challenges for companies today continues to be the cost of data storage, which is a large and rapidly growing IT expense. IBM® System Storage® N series incorporates a variety of storage efficiency technologies to help organizations lower this cost. This IBM Redbooks® publication focuses on two key components: N series deduplication and data compression. In this book we describe in detail how to implement and use both technologies and provide information on preferred practices, operational considerations, and troubleshooting. N series data compression and deduplication technologies can work independently or together to achieve optimal savings. We explain how N series data compression and deduplication work with Data ONTAP 8.1 operating in 7-Mode. We help you decide when to use compression and deduplication based on applications and data types to balance space saving against potential overhead. Optimization and usage considerations are included to help you determine your space savings.

Some people don't have to imagine what Milwaukee's Bronzeville was like. They have only to remember. They recall Walnut Street alive with businesses serving a hardworking Black population making something out of the meager resources available to them. They describe religious establishments such as St. Mark's Methodist Episcopal, St. Benedict the Moor, Calvary Baptist and St. Matthew CME attending to the spiritual life and remember the Flame, the Metropole and Satin Doll nightclubs taking care of entertainment and secular needs. Above all, they recollect a people looking out for the well-being of all within its realm. Gathering interviews with residents of the now-vanished neighborhood, Dr. Sandra E. Jones reimagines Bronzeville not just as a place, but as a spirit engendered by a people determined to make a way out of no way.

This book focuses on the current legal framework for vertical agreements in the EU and the US. Over the last ten years, antitrust rules governing these agreements have undergone thorough reform. In the EU, the old sector-specific block exemptions were replaced by Regulation 2790/99, applicable to all sectors of the economy. In addition, changes introduced to the procedural rules have led to the decentralisation of Article 81(3) and the removal of the notification requirement. In like manner, in the US the Supreme Court has gradually taken vertical restraints out of the per se illegality rule. What Sylvania achieved in placing non-price vertical restraints under the rule of reason in the late 1970s, the Khan judgment did for maximum resale price maintenance in 1997, whilst most recently and most significantly in 2007 the Leegin case followed suit for minimum resale price maintenance. The book is divided into four chapters. The first chapter considers the 'double nature' of vertical agreements and the regulatory dilemma. The second chapter explores the most influential economic theories underpinning current regulatory frameworks, and how these theories shape antitrust policy. The third chapter questions the adequacy of the current economic analysis in recent EU and US legislation and court decisions. The fourth chapter analyses how this maturing economic analysis can be reconciled with what commentators and regulators have identified as a key role for competition policy, redressing assumed imbalances between dealers and manufacturers. The author concludes by querying the prevailing logic of protecting sectoral interests above the competitive process.
Have you ever run yourself on the Internet, either in a search engine or a database, and had all your personal identifying information come up. Information that may show up could include your name, home address, home phone number, birth date and social security number. Did you ever wonder how that information got there and why they have your date of birth and social security number? Did you know there are things you do on a daily basis that puts your personal identifying information into publicly available information sources? It could be something as simple as ordering pizza and having it delivered to your house, filling out a credit application or having your creditor sell your personal information. This book will explain the difference between public record and publicly available information. It will also explain the ways your information gets released and how it ends up on the Internet. This is an information sharing industry that most people are not even aware exists. There are steps, described as the protection process, which can be taken to help you start protecting your personal identifying information from being released. There may be times when you can not stop your information from being released, but there are things you can do to control what information is released. Anyone who has a desire to protect their personal identifying information and their family members’ information from being released and made available on the Internet will benefit from learning about the protection process. This step by step guide was created with two objectives in mind; the first, heightening your awareness on the sale and release of your personal identifying information and the second, providing you with strategies you can implement to start protecting yourself and your family.
