In Evangelicals and the Continental Divide Sam Reimer finds surprising levels of uniformity among evangelicals on both sides of the border. He shows that both American and Canadian evangelicals share highly similar religious identities, central beliefs, moral and sub-cultural boundaries, and social attitudes. Reimer found that American evangelicals did not distinguish themselves through greater conservatism or greater commitment but did connect politics and faith to a much greater extent than their Canadian counterparts, while evangelicals in Canada evinced greater tolerance. He argues that these differences point to an enduring importance of national historical and cultural differences, whereas regional differences are not as significant. Using data obtained from 118 in-depth interviews with evangelicals in both countries as well as a representative poll of 3,000 Canadians and 3,000 Americans, Reimer details the inner workings of the evangelical subculture and gives us an understanding of evangelical similarities and differences across the two nations.

It's no secret that superhero comics have historically included problematic depictions of women, racial and sexual minorities, and others who do not fit the standard straight white male model of a hero. Rather than focus on these negative depictions, Langsdale wants to take a more positive approach by looking at recent comics that can be called feminist, with female heroes and creators of all genders that tell new types of stories within the genre. Although these books have usually been marginalized and have suffered premature cancellation, she argues that this marginalization has enabled innovative stories to be told in ways that not only advance the genre but also interact with contemporary social justice concerns. Incorporating intersectionality and feminist theory, Langsdale analyzes complete stories focused on various heroes -- Spider-Woman, America Chavez, the Unstoppable Wasp, and Ironheart. By exploring different elements of these characters, e.g., Spider-Woman's pregnancy, America's identity as a queer mestiza, and the Wasp's creation of a female-run STEM facility, she examines what makes these texts feminist and how they interact with larger issues of inclusion and social justice in ways that more traditional superhero narratives don't and probably can't. She also examines how these characters' appearances in other media have played a part in their development. These papers deal with the various scientific and technical aspects, designs, and technology of refrigeration used in food, as well as advances in air-conditioning, and heat pumps. One paper discusses the refrigeration of meat, fruit, or vegetables, and the reaction rate of proteolysis in low temperatures. The paper points out that meat preservation by freezing is not economical below 60 degrees centigrade citing the reason that cathepsines are still catalytically active in lower temperatures. Other papers discuss the effects of freezing of beef, pork, turkey, chicken, sweet corn, spinach puree. As regards fruit and vegetable storage, the air needs to be purified to inhibit infections, retard fungal or bacterial growth, and dissipate ripening gases or foul odors. Another paper examines the reasons for doing away with floor insulation in refrigeration plants used in storing fresh meat during the summer and winter months. This collection is suitable for engineers in the area of refrigeration, and also for food technologists involved in food research and preservation.

Those long silent core emotions led him, with eyes wide open, to risk his profession, his marriage, his community standing and his soul to keep things going. Lie built upon lie, larger thefts compounded smaller ones--time was purchased with ever bigger crimes against the community he served while he ignored his family life. Just live long enough for one more economic upturn and a few good deals to come along--everything will be fine. Or win the lottery. FBI agents came calling first. After pleading guilty, ex-attorney Dan Holmes entered the federal prison system for a ninety-six month stay not knowing if he could survive in a world he had seen only in the media. Penal rehabilitation turns out to be a life lived with four hundred other minimum security types in an open campus where any inmate can walk off the property. Accountants, lawyers, physicians, drug dealers, stock brokers, priests, the mentally retarded, the mentally ill, odd pranksters, clever scammers, and people more resembling barking dogs than human beings are all around him. The staff people are there in prison too, and everyone has mostly nothing to do, and a lot of time to do it in. Middle school without teachers--a way wicked wild world so few get to know close up. About the Authors: Sam Skinner was born and raised in Florida. He graduated from college and began a career in banking where he rose to Vice-President, Construction Loans. Then he changed career paths and worked as Chief Operating Officer for a real estate developer in Virginia. It was then that his life took a turn for the worse. He decided to be loyal to his employer when the employer committed bank fraud to try to secure takeout financing for his upside-down real estate portfolio. Sam did not call 911 and report the felonies as soon as he saw them, which is the letter of the law. His loyalty to an individual he liked and admired trumped his moral compass. When everything collapsed, Sam was indicted and pled guilty when the developer did not stand up and take responsibility for the frauds he alone had committed and authorized. Dan Holmes grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and went to law school after graduating college. He worked hard and became successful in his trade and was on his way to enjoying the fruits of his labor. Unfortunately, Dan wasn't prepared for the many trials that life makes you endure and, in his moment of testing, Dan failed miserably.
