Mr. Young struggled academically throughout high school. In the 10th grade, he was directed to leave high school by a school administrator due to horrible academic performance. However, Mr. Young - after being told by his mother to make a choice - decided to remain in school. It would take years before he would connect with the process of learning in a meaningful way. Mr. Young had to mature before he would make some difficult choices and changes, which drove him to receive several college degrees and to later become a college professor. This story is about the power of choice, a dream, desire, and determination to not quit, to overcome, to persevere, and to excel after struggling academically for many years. This is a story of survival. Mr. Young chronicles his many educational challenges, setbacks, and lessons learned. This book details a deeply personal story. This story is a very insightful reference guide for anyone who is struggling or has struggled academically, teachers who want to obtain experiential knowledge from a past misdirected student and now teacher, or parents who seek to better understand the challenges faced by this former at-risk student's documentary.
S. L. Young made some life altering choices that would change him, his life, and his destiny. By making choices to leave several jobs due to questionable or unethical behavior and also stand-up against workplace bullying, Mr. Young's life and his life's purpose would substantially change.Mr. Young's decisions to not win at any cost would have a devastating impact on him personally, emotionally, financially, physically, and spiritually. These challenges led Mr. Young to the verge of committing suicide.Notwithstanding the enormous weight of these challenges, he would not alter his ethical, moral, and spiritual beliefs to engage in questionable or unethical activities for financial gain. The choices Mr. Young made during these difficult times almost broke his spirit; however, he stood by his strong beliefs, proved his mettle, and also demonstrated the importance of 'strength of character'.This story is about an unwillingness to compromise an individual's beliefs to engage in questionable or unethical activities despite overwhelming pressures to do otherwise. Mr. Young, during the worst moments of his life, chose to give-back to help and inspire others through his writing, inspirational speaking, and the creation of an educational non-profit.Mr. Young's actions during these challenges are strong examples of an individual's ethics, character, moral courage, resilience, and the ability to persevere during tough times.
Individuals are often told to behave ethically and to 'do the right thing'; however, there are not often discussions about the potential personal costs if one chooses to act and/or behave ethically. The impact of addressing unethical activities can lead to individuals who are chastised, isolated, retaliated against, and more. These potential consequences can be powerful motivation to prevent impacted individuals and others from taking action to resolve questionable and/or unethical issues.Individuals, organizations, companies, and societies have a responsibility to encourage and enforce ethical actions and/or behaviors, along with ensuring that those who review, report, and/or resolve ethical situations are protected from unwanted unwelcomed, and unnecessary attacks. This book details the components of ethics, the types of ethical issues, case studies based on actual events, critical thinking questions, and recommendations to address questionable and/or unethical issues, along with guidance to ensure and enforce ethical compliance.Ethical actions and/or behaviors are normally pretty clear; although, the real issue with ethical compliance is generally related to individual interpretation. Therefore, while confronted with an ethical dilemma ... what will you choose to do?
Bullying behavior is often considered to be related to the antics of developing children. However, the same or similar behavior can be found in many offices also. The major difference between a school and a workplace bully is the environment that the bullying occurs, as the tactics used by school and workplace bullies are nearly the same. The focus of this book is to bring attention to an issue with great significance that is not discussed enough, impacts productivity in offices around the world, and can lead to emotional or psychological damage. This book is a single step toward raising awareness about, identifying the types of, and combating this very important topic of workplace bullies.
