Sports psychologists work not only with the individual athlete but also with the team. How best to mild a group of individual athletes into a coherence team performing at its best is an ongoing question and challenge for coaches and team leaders. A knowledge of group dynamics, social perception how people perceive, think about, respond to each other, and individual differences in personality are all essential to motivating and leading a collection of athletes into a smoothly functioning team that makes the best use of each individual player's strengths
There is considerable interest in the intrinsically multiscale structure and dynamics of complex electronic oxides, especially since these materials include those of technological importance, such as colossal magnetoresistance manganites and cuprate high temperature superconductors. Current microscopies, such as diffuse X-ray and inelastic neutron scattering, electromagnetic and acoustic response, NMR and scanning tunneling microscope probes, have revealed static and dynamic multiscale patterns in charge positioning, lattice structure and magnetic orientation, that respond to both external stress and magnetic field. These self-organized patterns include charge and orbital ordering; stripes in strain/spin; and labyrinth-like conductance modulations. The materials exhibit nanoscale phase segregation and mesoscale inhomogeneous clustering, and their phase transitions can have a percolative character. This volume presents experimental and theoretical work on these exciting new developments in condensed matter physics and materials science.
This knowledge of basic sciences coupled with a keen clinical sense, attention to detail and good decision-making skills is the defining characteristic of Critical Care. However, medical knowledge of the nature needed for an exacting practice of Critical Care also requires renewal as technology in the ICU and understanding of disease processes evolve with the passage of time. This monograph has been created to fill this gap. While Critical Care is an established specialty in many parts of the world, only in recent years it has received some attention in India. It is therefore appropriate that this monograph has been planned, keeping in view the growing interest in this specialty. Some of the chapters are detailed while others provide an overview of the subject, but each one has been written in keeping with the challenges of our present times. Many of the important issues related to the practice of Critical Care in our country have been covered in this monograph. This publication has been made possible through the untiring efforts of all faculty members and with the help of a grant from one of the companies. Critical Care Update will hopefully serve consultants, junior doctors, nurses and paramedical staff as a handy book to guide practice and decision-making in the future.
The Oxford Handbook of Caste brings together a wide range of essays encompassing various academic disciplines to lay the foundations for a new understanding of caste, capturing emerging research trends, imaginations, and the lived realities of caste.
This book aims to identify the challenges presented by current urban environmental governance practices in fast growing Indian cities, to propose changes to the current governance implementation strategies, and to explore the best practices to achieve sustainable urban models through Indian and global perspectives. With a focus on the city of Bengaluru, the book draws on extensive reviews of literature and data to present current trends and statuses of environmental resource use in growing urban centres of India. The book analyzes the situations that impact urban environmental governance decisions and outcomes and proposes solutions to address these issues for long-term sustainability. Policy makers, researchers, academics and development practitioners in environmental politics and urban governance will find this work of great interest. The book starts by examining different urban environmental threats on global and domestic levels, and provides evidence for the effectiveness of sustainable efforts to curb the impact of crisis-like scenarios. Then the book discusses the role of institutional regimes in influencing urban environmental outcomes through policies, and analyzes the role of various actors in the evolution of urban environmental governance from a legal perspective at global and local scales. In the final chapters, the book explores the trends and status of environmental resource management in Bangalore Metropolitan Area (BMA), and examines the dynamics of local institutions and governance structures for regulating environmental governance for promoting effective sustainable environmental governance in Bengaluru.
The book has captured the wide literature on the behaviour of poor towards savings and distilled the key lessons for the practitioners and policy makers. Linking products to purpose, catering to multiple needs, focus on short-term savings, priority to convenience, appropriate incentive design, saving in kind and building trust are the key learnings highlighted in the book.
This book provides a detailed and well-rounded overview of the dynamics of road vehicle systems. Readers will come to understand how physical laws, human factor considerations, and design choices come together to affect a vehicle's ride, handling, braking, and acceleration. Following an introduction and general review of dynamics, topics include: analysis of dynamic systems; tire dynamics; ride dynamics; vehicle rollover analysis; handling dynamics; braking; acceleration; and total vehicle dynamics.
Drawing on insights from theoretical engagements with borders and subalternity, Beyond Religion in India and Pakistan suggests new frameworks for understanding religious boundaries in South Asia. It looks at the ways in which social categories and structures constitute the bordering logics inherent within enactments of these boundaries, and positions hegemony and resistance through popular religion as an important indication of wider developments of political and social change. The book also shows how borders are continually being maintained through violence at national, community and individual levels. By exploring selected sites and expressions of piety including shrines, texts, practices and movements, Virinder S. Kalra and Navtej K. Purewal argue that the popular religion of Punjab should neither be limited to a polarised picture between formal, institutional religion, nor the 'enchanted universe' of rituals, saints, shrines and village deities. Instead, the book presents a picture of 'religion' as a realm of movement, mobilization, resistance and power in which gender and caste are connate of what comes to be known as 'religious'. Through extensive ethnographic research, the authors explore the reality of the complex, dynamic and contested relations that characterize everyday material and religious lives on the ground. Ultimately, the book highlights how popular religion challenges the borders and boundaries of religious and communal categories, nationalism and theological frameworks while simultaneously reflecting gender/caste society.
Caste is a contested terrain in India’s society and polity. This book explores contemporary realities of caste in rural and urban India. It examines questions of untouchability, citizenship, social mobility, democratic politics, corporate hiring and Dalit activism. Using rich empirical evidence from the field across Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and other parts of north India, this volume presents the reasons for the persistence of caste in India from a new perspective. The book offers an original theoretical framework for comparative understandings of the entrenched social differences, discrimination, inequalities, stratification, and the modes and patterns of their reproduction. This second edition, with a new Introduction, delves into why caste continues to matter and how caste-based divisions often tend to overlap with the emergent disparities of the new economy. A delicate balance of lived experience and hard facts, this persuasive work will serve as essential reading for students and teachers of sociology and social anthropology, social exclusion and discrimination studies, political science, development studies and public policy.
This book is about a psychopath who once in rage murdered his own family. Benny, as he was known, was a very vicious man. He was born in a middle-class family consisting of eight members. Benny was the sixth child in the family. In this book, I have written about Benny’s vicious cycle of murders and how the police were desperate to catch him. This story revolves around this thrilling chase, and every character plays a vital part.
The essays in this book trace the development of Joel Migdal's "state-in-society" approach. The essays situate the approach within the classic literature in political science, sociology, and related disciplines but present a new model for understanding state-society relations. It allies parts of the state and groups in society against other such coalitions, determines how societies and states create and maintain distinct ways of structuring day-to-day life, the nature of the rules that govern people's behavior, whom they benefit and whom they disadvantage, which sorts of elements unite people and which divide them, and what shared meaning people hold about their relations with others and their place in the world.
