The author Mr. S Srinivasan is a man of many passions- Union activist by profession, a pioneer in the bank employees’ union movement, a social empathist, an ideologist, a mathematics enthusiast, a teacher, a writer and a man of deep humanitarian conviction He became an activist for the rights and moralities of the staff in the banking sector, soon finding his way up the value chain in the All India Overseas Bank Employees Union and ultimately serving as the General Secretary of the Union for 23 years. In the year 1991, he was first appointed as the workmen director on the Board of Directors of Indian overseas Bank. During his tenure, he continually strived for the betterment of the bank and its people, and in making them aware of their rights and responsibilities, and in motivating and mobilizing them to follow their conviction. He successfully established innumerable historic welfare schemes, benefits, and inimitable settlements for the employees and authored, compiled and published several trade union information books and essays; his most significant work being the ‘Know your Rights’ volumes which was recommended as a reference compendium of Service Conditions by the management of Indian Overseas Bank to their respective regional offices the genesis of these books lay in the long felt need for compilation containing authentic and updated materials drawn from various resourceful materials which collected and compiled notes. The book is in two volumes. Volume 1 deals with ‘know your defence’ in domestic enquiry which contains important aspects of domestic enquires in question answer form chapter wise as well inclusion some land mark high court and supreme court decisions in favour of the employee. Where as in volume 2 of the book Know art of cross examination in domestic enquiries (part 1)Practical Guide to Defence Representatives in Handling Charge Sheets and Enquiries (part 2).Model question for cross examination of different specific cases exhaustively is also furnished. in addition to it as desired by many activists practical domestic Enquiries starting with reply to charge sheets, defence brief, EO’ ‘s findings, defence comments to EO’s findings reply of defence to show cause notice, draft of appeal with several illustrative case study examples, mock enquiry drills is furnished.. Some important aspects, concepts, legal terms pertaining domestic enquiry are repeated again & again for the sake of emphasis! This book is for all. The objectives of this book are to enable activists to understand important concepts in domestic enquiries, with practical illustrations and to get insightful understanding of changing environment disciplinary proceeding followed in banks and other sectors and impact of the subjectiveness with which it’s conducted it is hoped that books will be useful and will be a tool for effective defence assistant in days to come. This financial revolution can lift developing nations out of squalor and increase the wealth and stability of emerging and industrialized nations alike. By presenting an unprecedented picture of the potential benefits of financial globalization, and by showing in clear and hard-headed terms how these gains can be realized, Mishkin provides a hopeful vision of the next phase of globalization. Mishkin draws on historical examples to caution that mismanagement of financial globalization, often aided and abetted by rich elites, can wreak havoc in developing countries, but he uses these examples to demonstrate how better policies can help poor nations to open up their economies to the benefits of global investment. The first chapter discusses the concessions made by both sides in their accession agreements and is followed by two chapters which describe the manner in which the Taiwan economy was reformed to achieve compliance as well as the specific, restrictive trade regime that was put into place to manage mainland trade. The next two chapters deal with the implications of that restrictive trade regime for the Taiwan economy in Asia and with the nature of the interactions between the two sides within the WTO. The final four chapters of the volume examine the impact of membership on four sectors of the economy: finance; agriculture; electronics and automobiles. There is a post-script which briefly covers developments since the chapters were completed.

James S. Baumlin’s Theologies of Language in English Renaissance Literature offers a revisionist history of discourse, taking Shakespeare, Donne, and Milton as its touchstones. Their works mark stages in dieEntzauberung or “disenchantment,” as Max Weber has termed it: that is, in the “elimination of magic from the world.” Shakespeare’s Hamlet questions the word-magic associated with medieval Catholicism; Donne’s love lyrics ironize the sacramental gestures of their poetic-priestly speakers; more radical still, Milton’s major poems and polemical prose empty language of sacral power, repudiating human persuasion entirely over matters of “saving faith.” Baumlin describes four archetypes of historical rhetoric: sophism, skepticism, incarnationism, and transcendence. Undergirding the age’s competing theologies, each makes unique assumptions regarding the powers of language (both communicative and performative); the nature of being (including transcendent being or deity); the structure of the psyche (whether sin-weakened or self-sufficient); and the capacities of human knowing (whether certain knowledge is communicable—or even possible). Working within divergent theologies of language, the poets here studied take theological controversies as explicit themes. The crisis of Hamlet begins not in a king’s murder simply, but in his dying without benefit of the sacraments. As if compensating for their loss, young Hamlet “minister[s]” to Gertrude while acting as “scourge” to Claudius. Alternating between soul-cursing and soul-curing, Hamlet plays sorcerer and priest indiscriminately. Appropriating the speech-acts of Catholic sacramentalism, Donne’s lyrics describe a private “religion of Love,” over which the poet-lover presides as officiant. Or rather, some lyrics present him as Love’s Priest, there being as many personae as there are theologies of language. Beyond Love’s Priest, Baumlin describes three such personae: Love’s Apostate, Love’s Atheist, and Love’s Reformer. Focusing on “Lycidas” and De Doctrina Christiana, Baumlin outlines Milton’s plerophoristic “rhetoric of certitude.” Such texts as these explore the problematic status of preaching. (Can human eloquencecontribute to salvation?) They explore competing definitions (Aristotelian vs. Pauline) of pistis—meaningalternatively (religious) “faith” and (rhetorical) “persuasion.” And they invoke conflicting typologies (classical vs. Hebraic) of authorial ethos. Baumlin’s study ends with a glance at the Restoration and Royal Society’s final “disenchantment” or secularization of discourse.

Banks’ liquidity holdings are comfortably above legal or prudential requirements in most Central American countries. While good for financial stability, high systemic liquidity may nonetheless hinder monetary policy transmission and financial markets development. Using a panel of about 100 commercial banks from the region, we find that the demand for precautionary liquidity buffers is associated with measures of bank size, profitability, capitalization, and financial development. Deposit dollarization is also associated with higher liquidity, reinforcing the monetary policy and market development challenges in highly dollarized economies. Improvements in supervision and measures to promote dedollarization, including developing local currency capital markets, would help enhance financial systems’ efficiency and promote intermediation in the region.
