En 1387, l'évêque de Turin Giovanni Orsini et le dominicain Antonio di Settimo, inquisiteur de la Lombardie et de la Marche de Gênes, ouvrirent un procès à l'encontre des vaudois de la région de Chieri. Parmi les personnes qui furent auditionnées par ce tribunal, une seule révèle avoir appartenu à la «secte hérétique» des cathares (chaterorum), que les gens du pays appellent «gazari». Il s'agit d'un certain Jacopo Bech, un fratricelle, qui s'était fait vaudois puis cathare, pendant un peu plus de deux ans, avant de redevenir vaudois. Sa déposition donne des informations sur le catharisme à un moment où celui-ci a quasiment disparu des sources. C'est un témoignage capital. Il nous donne à voir que le catharisme était encore vivace à Chieri à la fin du XIVe.
