This is a story approximately seventy thousand words of a retired state worker who is arrested and convicted of first-degree murder. He receives a sixty-five-year sentence in prison. The main characters are Cliff Zane and a talking cat named Marvin that is addicted to Land O'Lakes cheese, has an IQ of 162, and is also a male chauvinist feline. The story reveals how Marvin, who has omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, and clairvoyant powers, guides and directs Cliff through his two trials, his conviction, and his imprisonment. Marvin finally does get Cliff released after three years in the state penitentiary by forcing witnesses to recant their false testimonies and by revealing the real murderer. Now, Cliff can cater to Marvin's physical needs like food, water, shelter, and vet care. Now, Cliff and Marvin can get back on track and enjoy the time that they have left with each other. The writing deals with the heartache and depression of a man who has been institutionalized in the state penitentiary because of free-will choices made by him and others. It demonstrates the injustice of the judicial system. The reader will see how circumstantial evidence convicts innocent people. It reveals the incompetence, ineptness, and mismanagement of the legal system. After Cliff's conviction, Marvin points out relevant truths that should have set Cliff free in the first place. However, Marvin is not allowed to interfere with free will. One by one, Marvin points out the wrongs and hypocrisy of the system. The real murderer must be convicted before Cliff can be set free. The story has a shocking ending, which leaves the reader to form his or her own conclusions about free-will choices made by all of us every day. This is a sequel to Sixty-Two Days to Eternity.

For many years the story of Cromie has been overshadowed by histories of the greater tragedy found on the Western Front in World War I. Yet, like T E Lawrence, Cromie's individual exploits reveal a classic British hero: noble, tenacious and beloved by all who served under him. Churchill called him a man of exceptional gifts. Cromie became a submarine commander at the remarkably young age of 24. By this time he had already seen action in the Boxer Rebellion, received the China Medal and had been mentioned in despatches. His compassion and care for his men gained him the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal, when he almost lost his life attempting to save a drowning sailor. In 1915 he was chosen to head a flotilla of submarines to attack German shipping in the Baltic Sea. Here, he achieved great success despite the hazardous nature of the climate and the threat of the German navy. He was decorated three times by the Czarof Russia and received the DSO. During his three years in the Baltic he became fluent in Russian. He only survived the difficulties of the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 because of his consummate skills as a mediator and diplomat. His murder in the British Embassy in 1918 at the age of 37 remained a tragic mystery for many years – until now. Bainton's extensive research has revealed why Cromie has previously been omitted from official histories of that difficult period. The circumstances surrounding his murder exposed facts about his complex character, his relationship with the Bolsheviks and the British Establishment - and importantly the story uncovers the duplicity of the allies as they struggled to formulate a reaction to the tidal wave of the Russian Revolution.

While Aaron tends to Harvey’s physical needs, like food, water, shelter, warmth, medical care, and a clean litter box, Harvey is the force that directs Aaron in his quest for his life’s spiritual and physical truth. The writing deals with the heartache and depression of a man who has been given a two-month death sentence. It reveals how the world of doctors and hospitals put roadblocks in his way. To make matters worse, the insurance companies put up their own roadblocks. Aaron soon discovers that the medical world and insurance companies are huge oligopolies of mismanagement, corruption, ineptness, greed, and incompetence. Harvey has told him this all along, but Aaron must discover the truth for himself. Fearing that he might go into eternity lost, he begins to seek some sort of spiritual salvation. He has one disappointment after another. Harvey guides and directs Aaron along his way. Harvey’s mission on earth is to show Aaron the way by giving him hints, direction, and encouragement. Harvey fully realizes that Aaron must find his own way in the end. The story is humorous, tear-jerking, and full of love and reveals a special alliance and dependence between a man and his cat. They take care of each other. They love each other. While Aaron fulfills Harvey’s needs, it’s evident that Harvey is the head of household as he walks Aaron through his death sentence and his spiritual quest.

In the postcolonial world, the claim to an emancipated national culture was bound to its aesthetic correlate, the unfolding time and experiments of the twentieth-century novel. Today, the constructs of both novel and a progressivist national project function, in all their closures, within global scales of economic disparity and violent exclusion. What is the fate of a literary canon when it is no longer capable of delineating a future – or otherwise, is bound to reproduce the failures of the past within its own inscriptions? How do we experience our current "globalist" moment, when lived inequities of gender, labour and ethnicity emerge in a text’s inability to speak on time? When does artistic or literary failure become the measure of a work's accomplishment? And what sort of liberation is envisioned by works that refuse the imperatives of "progress" and "independence" – which embrace the appearance of obsolescence by rejecting values of artistic freedom, originality and innovation? These are some of the provocations that arise from T.W. Adorno's idea of late style for our own conjuncture – a properly postcolonial context, in which every conceptual or expressive engagement is articulated through an awareness of eroded national promise. Examining works by Rabindranath Tagore, Mulk Raj Anand, Vikram Seth and the photography of Dayanita Singh, Tania Roy examines the delayed claims of literary and artistic modernity in India through Adorno’s category of late-style. In striking readings of Adorno and his interlocuters, the book extends a poetics of lateness toward a speculative history of the twentieth-century novel in India. Comprised of critically neglected selections from the oeuvres of canonical writers, Adorno and the Architects of Late Style in India proposes that under conditions of advanced capitalism, logics of redundancy overtake the novel’s foundational reference point in the nation to produce altered frames of thought and sensibility – and therein, a reader who might encounter, anew, the figures of an unfulfilled twentieth century.

Faure and Partain point out that current liability rules are unclear in their application to CCS. Causation is complicated, and the timeline of hundreds of years goes beyond the lifetimes of people or corporations. Examining the subject from legal and economic perspectives, they consider whether rules of civil liability can govern CCS risk; how a liability system might address the open-ended timeline; what role public and private regulatory measures could play; and whether compensation should be provided from public or private resources. This book is a history of American contract law around the turn of the twentieth century. It meticulously details shifts in our conception of contract by juxtaposing scholarly accounts of contract with case law, and shows how the cases exhibit conflicts for which scholarship offers just one of many possible answers. Breaking with conventional wisdom, the author argues that our current understanding of contract is not the outgrowth of gradual refinements of a centuries-old idea. Rather, contract as we now know it was shaped by a revolution in private law undertaken toward the end of the nineteenth century, when legal scholars established calculating promisors as the centerpiece of their notion of contract. The author maintains that the revolution in contract thinking is best understood in a frame of reference wider than the rules governing the formation and enforcement of contracts. Largely without the participation and example of local aristocracy, nobility and gentry, Belfast?s musical society was formed largely by the townspeople themselves in the eighteenth century and by several instrumental and choral societies in the nineteenth century. As the town grew in size and developed an industrial character, its townspeople identified increasingly with the large industrial towns and cities of the British mainland. Efforts to place themselves on the principal touring circuit of the great nineteenth-century concert artists led them to build a concert hall not in emulation of Dublin but of the British industrial towns. Belfast audiences had experienced English opera in the eighteenth century, and in due course in the nineteenth century they found themselves receiving the touring opera companies, in theatres newly built to accommodate them. Through an energetic groundwork revision of contemporary sources, Johnston and Plummer reveal a picture of sustained vitality and development that justifies Belfast?s prominent place the history of nineteenth-century musical culture in Ireland and more broadly in the British Isles.
