The author’s purpose for writing this book is to help young ministers who are seeking to pastor their first church. There are many young ministers who don’t know the procedures for accepting a church. Therefore, the author has penned those procedures from the Called into the Ministry to the First two years of the Pastorate. There are many books for the young minister that address what to do once the church calls a pastor, but there are very few books that give instructions on what to do in order to acquire a church. This book not only focuses on the young ministers, but also may be helpful for the veteran preachers who have been in the ministry for some period of time never pastoring a church. The author covers eight chapters in this book: I. The Call To The Ministry 1)The pastoral ministry is a calling 2)What is meant by the called II. Pray For Spiritual Guidance 1)The aspiration to pastor 2)Personality acceptance 3)The importance of mentoring III. May the blessing of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you! Grace, Love, and Peace, Roy Wade, Sr., D.Min.
Beautifully illustrated narrative history of the English country church In his engaging account, Sir Roy Strong celebrates the life of the English parish church From the arrival of the missionaries from Ireland and Rome, to the beautiful architecture and rich spirituality of medieval Catholicism; from the cataclysm of the Reformation, to the gentrified cleric we meet in Jane Austen novels, Roy Strong takes us on a journey - historical, social and spiritual - to explore what men and women experienced through the age when they went to church on Sunday. ‘Anyone with the slightest interest in the English parish church, of its life today, or its history will be intrigued, informed and enchanted by this lucid, and occasionally provocative, account’ Country Life
As the subtitle says, the book is a critique of denominational church doctrines. It is an objective writing as I, the author, have made every attempt to keep personal biases and subjective thinking out of the writing. It deals with denominational churches as to what's right in their doctrines and what's wrong. As mentioned, 100% of all church doctrines do not line up with the scriptures. Some churches come close, but no cigar. Others are so far out that I cannot fathom why they are called Christian Churches. The book discusses a host of contemporary topics which the Bible mentions in detail. In addition to man-made traditions of all the churches, the book tackles taboo topics in the church world such as abortion, alcoholism, smoking, drugs, gambling, homosexuality, infant baptism, Jehovah\'s Witnesses, Mormons, Islam, Agnosticism, Atheism, Women in the Church, Divorce, Interfaith Services, The Tribulation, Tithing, 666, Welfare, Social Security Disability and paid salaries for the clergy. The book has mostly scriptural references but some non-scriptural references too. All statements are supported with a Biblical verse(s) or occasionally, with an article or a personal reference. The Biblical references are from the King James Version, the New International Version, or sometimes paraphrased. The book flows easily as I used $1.98 words rather than $100.00 words. It is written so that the average 12 year old will understand it. Although I mention particular denominations, I never mention the names of churches or the names of people who were involved in the various scenes of the book. The book is an educational and enlightening tool for pastors' sermons, Bible studies, and Sunday School Classes. The book's one endeavor is to reveal the truth about Christianity. I don't understand why someone else didn't write this book decades ago. This book reveals to the readers that their churches and church leaders are not what they claim to be. In the book, there are some interesting and humorous anecdotes about situations which help to get a point across. They are lessons learned. This book is meant for Christian readers as well as non-believers and for those who are on the fence. This book will cause one to think and perhaps, reevaluate his or her position on God, salvation, and what is next after he or she departs this world.
In the era of 'post-Christendom', how can church as a sociological reality be switched on to the destructive dangers, yet constructive possibilities, of 'power' flowing in and around its community? Attuned to the current distrust of church power, this book creatively works out responses that could turn painful censure into a re-visioning of church power relations, helped by neglected critical studies. The approach exposes a complexity to power, and filters that insight into a theology of church. Much attention is paid in the book to the relevance to a religious community of post-modern philosopher Michel Foucault and of recent feminism. The topic of power has universal importance in the study of religion, though the response to analysis and critique in this book is drawn specifically from Christian sources. Kearsley concludes with an exploration for a future renovated, self-critical, authentic and growing community, sensitive to power while remaining in line with classic Christianity.
Why religion fell off the radar in Australia - and how it can get back on At the time of Federation 98% of Australians identified themselves as Christians. Now only 8% say they regularly go to Church. What's changed? How did Australia become a post-Christian nation and what part did the Churches play in their own decline? Author Roy Williams (God, Actually, In God they trust?) has long been an impassioned defender of Christianity. Here, he tackles the decline of the church head on, acknowledging that in many cases, inflexibility, negativity and a refusal to listen have led to a tarnished image. But he also argues that Australia had a long and often misunderstood Christian heritage. And without it, he says, we will become a society with no moral centre, a community where rampant materialism is the only rule. Offering a bold roadmap for the Church to change, Williams challenges atheists, agnostics and true believers to a genuinely open debate about the force of faith.
