She stared into the speckled mirror, wondering how she had come to this. How could she, Holly Love, apple of her parents’ eye, competent manipulator of invoices in Gorgon Office Supplies, have ended up alone and starving in a dead man’s flat? How indeed? Most reluctant heroines would throw in the towel at this point. But Holly Love is made of sterner stuff. She’s sworn to track down the cheating swine who ripped her life apart, and make him pay. But as she tries to keep her head in the face of a bizarre mystery, a gloomy old house, a hearse-driving Elvis impersonator and a gang of vengeful thugs – not to mention a garrulous and possibly possessed parrot – Holly is forced to come to terms with a great truth. However bad things seem, they can always get worse.

Predominant climate change narratives emphasize a global emissions problem, while diagnoses of environmental crises have long focused a modern loss of meaning, value, and enchantment in nature. Yet neither of these common portrayals of environmental emergency adequately account for the ways climate change is rooted in extractivisms that have been profoundly enchanted. The proposed critical petro-theology analyzes the current energy driven climate crisis through critical gender, race, decolonial, and postsecular lenses. Both predominant narratives obscure the entanglements of bodies and energy: how energy concepts and practices have consistently delineated genres of humanity and how energy systems and technologies have shaped bodies. Consequently, these analytical and ethical aims inform an exploration of alternative embodied energies that can be attended to in the disrupted time/space of energy intensive, extractive capitalism.
Radical Mindfulness examines the root causes of injustice, asking why inequalities along the lines of race, class, gender, and species continue to exist. Specifically, James K. Rowe examines fear of death as a root cause of systemic inequalities and proposes a more embodied approach to social change as a solution. Collecting insights from powerful thinkers across multiple traditions—including Black radicals, Indigenous resurgence theorists, terror management theorists, and Buddhist feminists— Rowe argues for the political importance of seemingly apolitical practices such as meditation and ritual. On their own, these strategies are not enough, but integrated into social movements that are combating structural injustices, mind–body practices can begin transforming the embodied fears that feed endless fuel to supremacist ideologies and yet are not targeted by most political actors. Radical Mindfulness is for academics, activists, and individuals who want to overcome supremacy of all kinds but are struggling to understand and develop methods for attacking it at the roots.

From 1840-57, Heinrich Ernst was one of the most famous and significant European musicians, and performed on stage, often many times, with Berlioz, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Liszt, Wagner, Alkan, Clara Schumann, and Joachim. It is a sign of his importance that, in 1863, Brahms gave two public performances in Vienna of his own and Ernst's music to raise money for the now mortally ill violinist. Berlioz described Ernst as 'one of the artists whom I love the most, and with whose talent I am most sympathetique', while Joachim was in no doubt that Ernst was 'the greatest violinist I ever heard; he towered above the others'. Many felt that he surpassed the expressive and technical achievements of Paganini, but Ernst, unlike his great predecessor, was also a tireless champion of public chamber music, and did more than any other early nineteenth-century violinist to make Beethoven's late quartets widely known and appreciated. Ernst was not only a great virtuoso but also an accomplished composer. He wrote two of the most popular pieces of the nineteenth century - the Elegy and the Carnival of Venice - and he is best known today for two solo pieces which represent the ne plus ultra of technical difficulty: the transcription of Schubert's Erlking, and the sixth of his Polyphonic Studies, the variations on The Last Rose of Summer. Perhaps he made his greatest contribution to music through his influence on Liszt's outstanding masterpiece, the B minor piano sonata. In 1849, Liszt conducted Ernst playing his own Concerto Path?que, a substantial single-movement work, in altered sonata form, using thematic transformation. Soon after this performance, Liszt wrote his Grosses Konzertsolo (1849-50), his first extended single-movement work, using altered sonata form, and thematic transformation. This is now universally acknowledged to be the immediate forerunner of the sonata, which refines and develops all these techniques. Liszt made his debt clear when, three years after completi
Wrestling is a nondiscriminatory sport where size and gender do not matter. It is, without a doubt, the hardest sport in which to compete and boasts the best conditioned athletes in the world. The 1980s produced a group of American wrestlers unmatched in history that included eleven nominees to the NCAA 75th Anniversary Wrestling Team; thirty-three, four-time All-Americans; seven of the top nine wrestlers in history; and five amateur wrestlers who accounted for seven NCAA titles, three Olympic gold medals, six world gold medals, and forty-one United States national championships. In his tribute to the Golden Era of Amateur Wrestling, award-winning sportswriter Reginald Rowe shines a light on the eras most dominant athletes that include Mean Gene (Mills) the Pinning Machine as he embarked on his quest for Olympic gold that was ended by President Carter and launched an all-out war against an Iranian wrestler. Also profiled is Andre Metzger, the winningest wrestler in history who warned the wrestling world of John DuPonts insanity; Tim Vanni, also known as Mr. Perseverance; and Rick Stewart who pinned Dave Schultz in the 1981 NCAA finals. Included are poignant remembrances of Schultz by men who wrestled with and against him. The Golden Era of Amateur Wrestling: 1980s shares stories and statistics that pay tribute to the greatest collegiate and international wrestlers ever produced in the United States.

In Design Thinking Peter Rowe provides a systematic account of the process of designing in architecture and urban planning. He examines multiple and often dissimilar theoretical positions whether they prescribe forms or simply provide procedures for solving problems—as particular manifestations of an underlying structure of inquiry common to all designing. Over 100 illustrations and a number of detailed observations of designers in action support Rowe's thesis.

"This inspiring book calls for a more supportive medical culture to assist us to become more resilient doctors."--Dr. Gabrielle Casper, immediate past chair of the Medical Women's International Association First Do No Harm provides medical practitioners with information and resources on strategies for self care as an essential element of their professional life. It aims to encourage medical practitioners to recognize and discuss the challenges facing them, promote self care as an integral and accepted part of the professional life of medical practitioners, and assists medical practitioners to develop useful strategies for self care. Rowe and Kidd explore the too often ignored issue of physician self-care and highlight the dangers of ignoring this problem. It is a timely examination of the troubles doctors the world over face regarding their work-life balance and receiving mental health care. The statistics surrounding physician self harm are alarming and even as early as 1858, physicians in England noticed that a higher suicide rate occured among physicians when compared to the general population. This trend has certainly persisted to the present day, with female doctors at particular risk. This excessive risk of suicide among female doctors illuminates the need to tackle issues of stress and mental health experienced by doctors. With their extensive medical and professional experience, the authors have created a legacy to be shared with doctors worldwide, at all stages of their careers. In responding to the new challenges of 21st-century medicine and the medical workforce shortage, they advocate for a new meaning of the doctors' ancient creed. They propose eight essential principles towards being a resilient doctor: Make home a sanctuary Value strong relationships Have an annual preventive health assessment Control stress, not people Recognize conflict as a opportunity Manage bullying and violence assertively Make our medical organizations work for us Create a legacy
