Throughout his glittering career, Ross Harper was a major figure in Scottish law, politics, journalism and business. He was a key player in many of Scotland's most high-profile legal cases from the 1960s to the 1990s, including the Albany Drugs Case and the Glasgow Rape Case, after having ambitiously set up his own firm while still in his mid-twenties. He was President of the Law Society of Scotland and the International Bar Association, received numerous commendations for his work and acted as a political consultant for big businesses such as William Hill. He has also been active in politics throughout his adult life, campaigning tirelessly for the Conservative Party from the 1970s onwards. Harper's work, viewpoints and high profile have, inevitably, exposed him to difficult situations and brought him no shortage of rivals and enemies. And he's had his fair share of run-ins with the media too. His work has also introduced him to a wide variety of people in positions of power on all sides of the political and social spectrum, including Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, John Smith and Nelson Mandela. Now, after a life in the spotlight, Ross Harper offers deeply personal views on the law, business and journalism, examining the roots of his career and the lifelong values of his upbringing in Glasgow during the Second World War. In spite of a powerful tradition, more than two thousand years old, that in a valid argument the premises must be relevant to the conclusion, twentieth-century logicians neglected the concept of relevance until the publication of Volume I of this monumental work. Since that time relevance logic has achieved an important place in the field of philosophy: Volume II of Entailment brings to a conclusion a powerful and authoritative presentation of the subject by most of the top people working in the area. Originally the aim of Volume II was simply to cover certain topics not treated in the first volume--quantification, for example--or to extend the coverage of certain topics, such as semantics. However, because of the technical progress that has occurred since the publication of the first volume, Volume II now includes other material. The book contains the work of Alasdair Urquhart, who has shown that the principal sentential systems of relevance logic are undecidable, and of Kit Fine, who has demonstrated that, although the first-order systems are incomplete with respect to the conjectured constant domain semantics, they are still complete with respect to a semantics based on "arbitrary objects." Also presented is important work by the other contributing authors, who are Daniel Cohen, Steven Giambrone, Dorothy L. Grover, Anil Gupta, Glen Helman, Errol P. Martin, Michael A. After two years of marriage and living with his controlling mother and matriarch of the family and business, Nellie, unable to cope with the prison-like atmosphere, seven months pregnant, left and accepted a room with a friendly family nearby. While his wife and son were destined to a life of poverty, he continued to live in prosperity. Throughout, no child support was ever received, despite court orders. It is the chronology of the haves and have-nots, an encyclopedia of life lessons woven through a small rural American community-a place where a teacher, employers, an iconic hero, two coaches, a mentor, and above all a devoted mother-impacted the life of a young boy. In academics, athletics, student activities and jobs, the boy had good times and bad, but not without periods of anxiety and fear. He learned, however, to use these emotions as stimulants, not deterrents; where discipline, commitment, perseverance and an attitude of never giving up became part of his philosophy. The gravity and sadness of it all were overridden by love, care, support and attitude-the mother who died prematurely, the son who applied the lessons learned to his motivation and maturation. The author and his wife live in the Northeast and have children and grandchildren.

In 1856, in an opera house in Roseville, Illinois, Susan B. Anthony called for the supporters of woman suffrage to stand. The only person to rise was eight-year-old Emma Smith. And she continued to take a stand for the rest of her life. As a leader in the suffrage movement, Emma Smith DeVoe stumped across the country organizing for the cause, raising money, and helping make the West central to achieving the vote for women. DeVoe used her feminine style to great advantage in the campaign for the vote. Rather than promoting public rallies, she encouraged women to put their energies toward influencing the votes of their fathers, brothers, and husbands. Known as the still-hunt strategy, this approach was highly successful and helped win the vote for women in Washington State in 1910. Winning the West for Women demonstrates the importance of the West in the national suffrage movement. It reveals the central role played by the National Council of Women Voters, whose members were predominantly western women, in securing the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment. Winning the West for Women also tells a larger story of dissension and discord within the suffrage movement. Though ladylike in her courtship of male support for the cause, DeVoe often clashed with other activists who disagreed with her tactics or doubted her commitment to the movement. This fascinating biography describes the real experiences of women and their relationships as they struggled to win the right to vote.
