In the last quarter century, televised court proceedings have gone from an outlandish idea to a seemingly inevitable reality. Yet,debate continues to rage over the dangers and benefits to the justice system of cameras in the courtroom. Critics contend television transforms the temple of justice into crass theatre. Supporters maintain that silent cameras portray "the real thing," that without them judicial reality is inevitably filtered through the mind and pens of a finite pool of reporters. Television in a courtroom is clearly a two-edged sword, both invasive and informative. Bringing a trial to the widest possible audience creates pressures and temptations for all participants. While it reduces speculations and fears about what transpired, television sometimes forces the general public, which possesses information the jury may not have, into a conflicting assessment of specific cases and the justice system in general. TV or Not TV argues convincingly that society gains much more than it loses when trials are open to public scrutiny and discussion.

What about the detail assigned to watch Elaine and the girls?” These thoughts raced through the President of the United States, Jerald Mortensen’s mind as he anguished over the tape he had just recently received. This tape turns out to be the impetus that brings Reggie Nutsbagh and Toby, Preston, Private Detectives, into this complex problem. They had come to the attention of the President and his Chief of Staff, Garrett Farmer, when their courageous exploits across the European Continent were revealed to them by the German and French governments. These two detectives, one from Las Vegas, Nevada, and the other from Bremerton, Washington became involved in a desperate dash across Europe (Book #3, The Dawn over Europe) to deny a terrorists group access to the dreaded anthrax virus and an antidote to the virus developed by three sons of very rich parents. Although from foreign countries they were attending a prestigious university in the United States and during their studies had developed both the virus and an antidote. They work was discovered by a group of men wanting to use the virus to cripple the United States and its allies. Nothing about this mission or the persons responsible for the favorable results in denying terrorist this deadly virus could be announced or disclosed the public so they were honored in private, with a few of our nation’s high ranking government officials present, including the President and his Chief of Staff. Now the Chief of Staff, Garrett Farmer, without getting a blessing from his boss, the President, called for the two detectives to return to the Washington DC to assist the President this serious matter. When told what Garrett has done the President responds, “How can they do anything when even the Secret Service can’t find a clue? We have less than forty hours before the kidnappers make their demands. It would take hours just to get them here.” “Actually, my old friend, they are on their way here now. They should be landing at Andrews very shortly. I told them only that the President had need of their services.” The two detectives, had not too long ago, returned from a long and dangerous mission in Europe involving the anthrax virus now and were just settling in with their families now they were called back to our nation’s capital and would find themselves embroiled in another mystery involving the kidnapping of the President’s family. This kidnapping would turn into something more serious and along the way personal problems surface when Reggie’s wife, Brandy dies in child birth leaving him with a new born daughter. His partner, Toby Preston, thinking about a single father trying to raise a daughter, invites a young lady, Monika, who became enamored with Reggie during their escapades in Europe, to come to the United States and help Reggie with his new born daughter. But there is a catch to this invitation which will further complicate an already complex situation. These personal problems boil over in both households and could sideline this investigation before it gets started. But duty to country comes first so pushing these personal problems aside the two detectives dive into the Presidents dilemma and using the skills they have developed over the years of operating together in an attempt to solve the kidnapping of his family. This kidnapping becomes even more and our two detectives receive another invitation to talk to the President on a more serious matter, the theft of Nuclear Devises from a Submarine Base in the State of Washington. This situation becomes a race against time as our two detectives are taxed to the maximum, as time and the threat of a Nuclear detonation in a large populated area creates an added dimension of fear. Using the full complement of personnel from their Broken Dreams Detective Agency they dive into the dangerous situation, one that takes the

This book relates the military experiences compiled from a twenty-five year naval career of a small town boy whose elementary and high school endeavors were somewhat less than satisfactory, but who was given the opportunity, provided by that inconceivably destructive event, known as World War II, to redeem his poor educational activity and serve in the Navy reasonably successfully. The book follows his career as he rose from a very young and inexperienced Ensign to the rank of Commander. Early on, he acquired a specialty designation as cryptologist, dealing with codes and ciphers in the Naval Communications system. This book depicts the good times, the hard times, and the difficult times of the voyage to the top of the military organization in which he spent the biggest part of his Navy career. He spent many years in the field spreading the communication security gospel directly to the communication officers of various ships and stations. Finally, after 20 years of total service, he was assigned to the Naval Security Group Headquarters in Washington, D.C. as deputy to the head of the Communication Security Organization with oversight and management responsibilities over the field activities. Later, when his boss was assigned to duty at a field activity, he was elevated to the head of the organization. After about a year as head of the Communication Security Organization, he was given a very promising assignment as Commanding Officer of a newly established Naval Security Group command in California. As expressed in the book, this was a Camelot assignment. Shortly after World War II ended and very early in his career, he met and married his lifetime companion. This relationship produced six children, five daughters and a son, who survived a change of venue every two to three years and all became college graduates, including one daughter who was born with a physical disability denying her the ability to get around without assistance. All achieved exceptional success in their chosen occupational pursuits. He and his brides commandment that all the children must expect to stay in school at least sixteen years, was really very rewarding for them in their later lives. The book concludes with a comparison of his Navy life with the famous and well used Navy description of a hypothetically perfect sea voyage, Fair Winds and Following Seas.

This accessible volume sets an ambitious goal: to help people better understand the nature of mental illness. The term itself is a problem for most who believe, consciously or not, that individuals have both a mind and a body. Ronald Chase is interested in the roots of this thinking about mental illness, and finds it in philosophical dualism, famously promoted by Rene Descartes in the seventeenth century. Chase believes this perspective contributes to the stigma associated with mental illness, and argues for a different conceptual understanding. He describes and evaluates several alternatives, including behaviorism, physicalism, and functionalism. He also explores whether mental states can be reduced to brain states, and whether mental events cause things to happen. His provocative answers suggest mind-body dualism is outdated and misleading, and some version of physicalism is more likely to help us understand mental illness. Chase presents a concise outline of the science of mental illness, with a focus on schizophrenia, noting that faulty brain development is the fundamental cause of major mental illness. Using detailed, but non-technical language, Chase describes how genes combine with environmental influences to produce changes in brain structures and functions. Chase insists on the need to understand mental illness as a biological phenomenon, yet accepts that people use mental terms and concepts in everyday discourse. This scientifically sound challenge to major assumptions currently in vogue with respect to mental illness will initiate a new dialogue on the subject. Ronald McClure has written books about practical Christian living, among then being; "Angels Walking Among Us," "My Walking Stick and I," "Our Front Yard" and "Horse Tails, Dog Tails and Ronny's Tales." Mr. McClure is a 1979 graduate of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. He and his wife of 29 years, Carole, have raised five children. Upon reading the hand written journals of Reverend John Thompson Price, Mr. McClure saw a great value in his writings and felt that they would be appreciated by many. This is the story of the life of Reverend John Thompson Price taken from his own, handwritten journals. He grew up in east Tennessee with many hardships just after the Civil War, living with his family on several different farms in the Cumberland Mountains and in the Sequatchie Valley in Wilson County, Tennessee. Red Bank, Cookeville, McMinnville, Cleveland, Chattanooga, Dayton, Sweetwater, Ocoee, Georgetown and Chestouie are just a few of the communities that he traveled to with a horse and buggy in the late 1800's and early 1900's. He later preached in Rockwall, Texas, Golden City, Missouri, and Centerview, Missouri, in the 1920's, 30's and 40's. Read of his romance and marriage to Miss Nettie Hickman from Dayton, Tennessee, and of their first church in Bel Buckle. This book includes lists of marriages performed by Reverend Price and genealogies of his family.

In the United States, work is the key to economic success, as well as the major source of health care coverage and retirement security. While Europeans look to the State for these benefits, Americans for the most part do not. This system of employment-based benefits means that those disadvantaged in the labor market are also disadvantaged in terms of health care coverage and retirement security. The authors of this work examine the overrepresentation of Mexican Americans in low wage or service sector jobs, which rarely come with health insurance or retirement coverage. At all ages, Mexican Americans have lower rates of health insurance and retirement coverage than do other minority groups, such as African Americans or other Hispanic groups. Although employment in jobs that do not provide benefits is one major source of this disparity, other factors—including immigration history, citizenship status, and language proficiency—further block opportunities for upward mobility within the Mexican American population. In their analysis, the authors work to deemphasize the popular, cultural explanation for the economic disparities and focus on more practical, policy-based solutions. In each chapter, the authors identify and critique the factors that affect the economic security and health care access of individuals throughout the life course, suggesting policies for reform. This work will be of interest to anyone working in the fields of cultural studies, public health and the sociology of work. With the focus on real world causes for the problems as well as potential solutions, policy-makers will also find this informative book an essential resource.
