The Classical Dynamics of Particles: Galilean and Lorentz Relativity has been designed to serve either as an independent graduate course in dynamics or as a segment of a graduate theoretical physics course. The book begins with a general introduction and a rather extensive discussion of the special theory of relativity, including a section on tachyons. Separate chapters follow on the variational derivation of Lagrangian dynamical equations of charged particle motion and spin angular momentum; variational derivation of Noether's theorem; and canonical formalism and Dirac's extension of Hamiltonian dynamics and treatment of constraints. The ""No-Interaction Theorem"" of Wigner and Van Dam and various efforts to construct a many-particle dynamics compatible with the special theory of relativity are also discussed. The final chapter presents two applications of group theory in classical mechanics: the factorization of the dynamical matrix and the construction of a canonical formalism from a symmetry group. This text is intended for advanced undergraduate or graduate students of physics. It is assumed that the reader has had an undergraduate course in mechanics and the usual undergraduate mathematics preparation including differential equations and matrix theory. Some exposure to elementary tensors and group theory would be helpful but is not essential
Private international law is normally discussed in terms of rules applied in litigation involving parties from more than one State. Those same rules are fundamentally important, however, to those who plan crossborder commercial transactions with a desire to avoid having a dispute arise — or at least to place a party in the best position possible if a dispute does arise. This makes rules regarding jurisdiction, applicable law, and the recognition and enforcement of judgments vitally important to contract negotiations. It also makes the consideration of transactional interests important when developing new rules of private international law. These lectures examine rules of jurisdiction and rules of recognition and enforcement of judgments in the United States and the European Union, considering their similarities, their differences, and how they affect the transaction planning process.

The organization of this study guide parallels that of Cheng F Lee's Statistics for Business and Financial Economics, providing a comprehensive treatment of every chapter. To maximize students' understanding of the material, the author presents it in a slightly different though complementary way. For each chapter, the study guide provides:Chapter Intuition. Each chapter begins with an intuitive verbal explanation of the chapter's central message on why the chapter is important and where it is headed.Chapter Review. Rather than just giving a simple outline of the chapter, all the key concepts in the chapter are covered in a simple, easy-to-follow account.Useful Formulas. Where appropriate, a list of useful formulas from the chapter is provided so that one need not search the text to find formulas necessary for solving the problems.Example Problems and Solutions. Here, sample problems similar to the problems in the text are provided, along with step-by-step solutions. To provide a guide to solving the problems, each example states the topic that the problem illustrates.Supplementary Exercises. Once the example problems are studied, one's skills can be put to work by solving problems. A variety of exercise types is offered to accommodate various learning styles.
