To achieve this, the book investigates the evidence for eternal life from the Bible and contrasts such evidence with nonbiblical sources. Attention is given to how the Bible authenticates eternal life and how ones profession of faith brings assurance of eternal life. Then systematically, the truth of eternal life is revealed by examining the Old Testament, the Intertestamental period, the New Testament, and the problematic subject of the intermediate state. In the final two chapters, the book critically evaluates nonbiblical views about eternal life and concludes with a chapter titled 'Soul-Searching Insights' to fuel the inquisitive mind.

Creativity is a hot topic in education. As such, there is no shortage of insights or suggestions for how teachers might incorporate creativity into their curriculum. Wading through these suggestions can, however, be quite daunting. Consequently, many teachers feel that such changes are not feasible and may even come at the cost of supporting students’ academic learning. This book provides an alternative. Teachers need not adopt a new curriculum, radically change what they are already doing, or attempt to add more to their already overflowing plate of curricular responsibilities. Gravity - Galileo to Einstein and Back starts with a revision of the fundamentals of the theory of dynamics and gravitation. The primary object is to present a relativistic theory of gravitation, which is an extension of the Special Theory of Relativity. The new approach to gravitomagnetics reproduces results which are identical, for the precession of the perihelion of Mercury and for the deflection of light grazing the Sun, to those given by the general theory of relativity. Both of these were hailed as justifications of the general theory. When the new theory is applied to the precession of a gyroscope in space, there is a small difference from the value quoted to that given for the NASA/Stanford Gravity Probe B experiment, which has just been completed. The results are due in Spring 2007. In order to explain the new approach, it is necessary to re-examine Newtonian dynamics and special relativity. Certain aspects are better seen if force is treated as a defined quantity rather than a primary one. This idea is not new; it was the view of d'Alembert and especially H. R. Hertz. One result is that the principle of equivalence, in its weak form, does not arise, yet this is stated to be one of the foundations of general relativity. Curved space time may be regarded as just another invention to replace the invention of force. Neither are needed but are very useful concepts, as is money to commerce. Newtonian gravity gives rise to a relative acceleration which is related to the relative position between two bodies, in the new gravitomagnetic theory relative acceleration depends also on relative velocity. This removes the need for an inertial frame of reference however the frames must be non-rotating. This is defined by postulating that light, in the absence of matter, travels in straight lines as well as at a constant speed. What follows is reasonably simple mathematics; certainly simpler than that of curved space time.

Eli Macpherson’s grandparents traveled with an 1858 wagon train caravan over the Santa Fe Trail to the New Mexico Territory. The settlers established a settlement called Friendly Valley located in the shadow of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Eli, born in 1862, completed eighth grade at the Friendly Valley school. His early years are documented in books 1 and 2 in the Preface. Eli, a Shepherd Boy, from Boyhood to Manhood is a continuation of the Eli story. In 1876 he began working at his grandfather’s General Store while completing high school. On train travels east to attend college, Eli crossed the Mississippi River at St. Louis over the historic 1,524-foot steel arch bridge—an engineering marvel completed in 1874. Eli obtained a 160-acre homestead permit for land located north of Friendly Valley. During summer vacations from college, Eli, with the help of Jake, a mountain man who left the mountains after losing his wife to a grizzly bear, constructed buildings, built fences, and stocked the homestead with farm animals. When Eli graduated from college in 1885, he married Eleanor Lewis, an eastern girl, and the young couple traveled West to the New Mexico Territory. The story continues as the couple raise three children while living on Eli’s homestead ranch. Books 1, 2, and 3 include math–history topics interwoven into a human interest story of the American frontier to provide an interesting read for elementary and high school students. Author Ronald B. McPherson is a structural engineer and retired university professor.
