While on the run, he becomes more determined to survive and at the same time convinced that he must find the true reason why he has become a fugitive.

A person could write a history story every day for the rest of his life and not come close to covering all the history of America. The history of America in the last five hundred years reflect every human experience that man possesses. The stories selected for this book depict men, women and events of every possible description. Most of these stories are not found in high school history books, yet are influential in the development of America. Kit Carson fought Indians, but also guided Fremont through the West. Elizabeth Blackwell became the first woman to receive a medical degree in America at a time when women were not even thought of as citizens. Then, there is the innovative genius of the Burma-Shave signs that sold shaving cream all over the country. History is a very delicate subject. The reader is at the mercy of the eye witness account of a person's actions or an event taking place. The eye witness from one side will see it one way while the person recording the event from the other side may see it differently. It is then up to the historian to decipher these varying accounts and determine what really happened. It is possible that both sides were wrong. Historians have the task of inspecting as many versions of the same story as possible to come to some reasonable expectation of what actually took place. A case in point would be the story of the Alamo. Texans tell the story as they wanted it, while the Mexicans tell a story that is completely opposite (See Dequello inside). The stories in this book have been compared and researched as honestly as it is possible to do remembering that there are precious few eye witnesses left.

The "Interim" LSM(R) or Landing Ship, Medium (Rocket) was a revolutionary development in rocket warfare in World War II and the U.S. Navy's first true rocket ship. An entirely new class of commissioned warship and the forerunners of today's missile-firing naval combatants, these ships began as improvised conversions of conventional amphibious landing craft in South Carolina's Charleston Navy Yard during late 1944. They were rushed to the Pacific Theatre to support the U.S. Army and Marines with heavy rocket bombardments that devastated Japanese forces on Okinawa in 1945. Their primary mission was to deliver maximum firepower to enemy targets ashore. Yet LSM(R)s also repulsed explosive Japanese speed boats, rescued crippled warships, recovered hundreds of survivors at sea and were deployed as antisubmarine hunter-killers. Casualties were staggering: enemy gunfire blasted one, while kamikaze attacks sank three, crippled a fourth and grazed two more. This book provides a comprehensive operational history of the Navy's 12 original "Interim" LSM(R)s.

Slowly, many parts of local history have been lost to the sands of time. Fire took many, followed by condemnations and the inevitable advance of progress. An empty lot may be all that remains of a once-prominent structure, but sometimes a new landmark emerges. In the case of one famous address at Center and Water Streets, the Wenonah Hotel rose out of the ashes of the Fraser House, another prominent facade. Seven decades later, the Wenonah, too, succumbed to fire; out of those ashes rose the Delta College Planetarium, a third-generation landmark. Photographs help residents remember, though each person who experienced something firsthand has his or her own distinct connection with these pieces of lost Bay City.
