My intention in writing The Hip-Hop Chess Master is to show children and people of all ages and ethnicities that following your passion(s) does not mean that you must abandon other areas of interest or talents you may possess or conform to the perceptions of others. It is entirely plausible for these talents/gifts/passions to happily coexist, thrive, and flourish together. This story is as much for the “nerd” chess player, band member, and school safety officer as it is for the “cool” kids and jocks. And in many cases, they are both! Please enjoy this book with an open mind and an open heart. Encourage everyone you encounter, or have the opportunity to influence, to be the best and to always, above anything else, be true to who they are. Now, you can experience music from the book including the tracks "Checkmate" and "Lunchroom Battle". Just visit https://soundcloud.com/thehiphopchessmaster.

Coercion, it seems, like poverty and prejudice, has always been with us. Political thinkers and philosophers have been arguing its more direct and personal consequences for centuries. Today, at a point in history marked by dramatic changes and challenges to the existing military, political, and social order, coercion is more at the forefront of political activity than ever before. While the modern state has no doubt freed man from some of the forms of coercion by which he has traditionally been plagued, we hear now from all sectors of society complaints about systematic coerciveness-not only on the national and international levels, but on the individual level as well.
This volume, offers the thoughts of twenty scholars on the theory, history, and practice of representation. Two developments make a new appraisal of this subject timely. One is the decision of the United States Supreme Court requiring representation to be democratic in the sense of affording every voter an equal voice in government. The other, that some governments that are not democratic, in the sense of having freely competitive political parties, are now, nevertheless, "representative.

While searching for a missing pit bull, private investigator Easy Taylor explores the unsavory worlds of animal laboratory testing and dog fighting, uncovering bizarre genetic testing that alters the nature of beasts. Since losing his job and its regular paycheck at an Albany investigative firm, life for private investigator Edward Zachery Taylor, known as Easy, is going downhill. In business for himselfwith no boss, no client, and no moneyEasys car has been repossessed and hes behind on his rent. Getting a referral from his friend, veterinarian Henrietta Van Vonderhueeks, Easy reluctantly accepts the assignment of finding Catskill sheep farmer Diana Hunters missing pit bull which may have been abducted for dog fighting. With retainer in hand, Easy immediately places bets with his local bookie who gives him a lead that takes him into the seamy underworld of dog fighting. Then, on an errand for the veterinarian to a local testing lab, Easy encounters the bizarre genetic research being conducted there by Dr. Phyllis Steen. The two worlds converge in the labs secretive efforts at genetically altering the nature of beasts by transforming passive creatures into aggressive ones. Praise for Pardee Holler: Easy Taylor may be the most flawed detective since Sam Pulsifer in An Arsonists Guide to Writers Homes in New England, but also one of the most entertaining. In Pardee Holler we witness a collision at the intersection of crooked Albany politicians, greedy Catskills developers, backwoods Pardee Mountain folk, and idealistic tree huggers. This book is a pitch-perfect homage to the down and almost out gumshoe, complete with a private dick who cant resist playing the horses with his last sawbuck. As philosophers throughout the ages have asked: What is justice? What is truth? What is art? What is law? In Education Reconfigured, the internationally acclaimed philosopher of education, Jane Roland Martin, now asks: What is education? In answer, she puts forward a unified theory that casts education in a brand new light. Martin’s "theory of education as encounter" places culture alongside the individual at the heart of the educational process, thus responding to the call John Dewey made over a century ago for an enlarged outlook on education. Look through her theory’s lens and you can see that education takes place not only in school but at home, on the street, in the mall—everywhere and all the time. Look through that lens and you can see that education does not always spell improvement; rather, it can be for the better or the worse. Indeed, you can see that education is inevitably a maker and shaper of both individuals and cultures. Above all, Martin’s new educational paradigm reveals that education is too important to be left solely to the professionals; that it is one of the great forces in human society and, as such, deserves the attention and demands the vigilance of every thoughtful person.

Geologic Disposal of High-Level Radioactive Waste examines the fundamental knowledge and conditions to be considered and applied by planners and other professionals when establishing national repository concepts, and constructing repositories for the long-term isolation of highly radioactive waste from surrounding crystalline rock. It emphasizes the important roles of structural geology, hydrogeology, hydrochemistry, and construction techniques. It specifically examines the disposal of steel canisters with spent reactor fuel in mined repositories (MR) at medium-depth, and in very deep boreholes (VDH). While disposal in mined repositories has been widely tested, the option of placing high-level radioactive waste in deep boreholes has been considered in the US, UK, and elsewhere in Europe, but has not yet been tested on a broad scale. This book examines the possibility of safe disposal for very long periods, proposing that the high salt content and density of groundwater at large depths are such that potentially contaminated water would not rise high enough to affect the more shallow biosphere. Features: Presents the best practices for disposal of spent fuel from nuclear reactors. Assesses waste isolation capacities in short- and long-term perspectives, and the associated risks. Describes site selection principles and the economics of construction of different types of repositories. Includes an appendix which provides the latest international recommendations and guidelines concerning the disposal of highly radioactive waste.

The Insider's System for Writers in North Hollywood, California, says, "Tyler, the Texas Turkey was a delight to read and should become a favorite series for children, from toddlers to school age. Parents, who are the people who actually choose and buy books, will love these stories, too. The educational parts never interfere with the fun and adventure. This book series would form the foundation for a great PBS series.
Sustainable Action and Motivation proposes individual competencies and institutional policies that can help overcome the motivational hurdles that hamper sustainable action. Following the Paris Agreement of 2015 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the political momentum urgently to begin the drastic reduction of greenhouse gas emissions has increased significantly. Affluent, high-income OECD countries are expected to take the lead in the global transition to a low carbon society. Given this, we need a better understanding of the motivational problems that people in affluent countries face with acting sustainably. This book investigates the above questions by analysing three fundamentally different perspectives: individuals and their motivation to act sustainably; institutions who take responsibility for issuing policies that steer us towards taking sustainable action; and humanity, each individual member of which ought to understand his or her non-sustainable behaviour in relation to the continued existence of the collective of human beings. Using theories from empirical psychology and a phenomenological approach to the research, this book will be of great interest to students and scholars of practical philosophy, psychology of motivation and environmental psychology, as well as policymakers looking for ways to implement effective policies that encourage pro-environmental behaviour.
Every man had a dream of the kind of man they would one day become. Have you become this man? Have you ever asked another man whether he's become who he always wanted to be? I'm surprised to find that for so many men their earliest dreams for themselves are just a hope for the future. This book is for men, and for everyone who cares about them. We give up our dreams too easily. Our personal growth stops. What we don't know is that we're missing the connection of full emotional intimacy. Many of us haven't been taught how to create that emotional intimacy and how to distinguish it from sexual intimacy. Without emotional intimacy and joy, men aren't fully alive. What a tragedy that so many men are missing so much. The hope that motivated this book is that someday, all men will be able to reconnect with lasting intimacy and joy that they can have with others, by reconnecting with the man they always wanted to be. The vision is that someday our boys will grow into the men they want to be, living out the deepest longings of their hearts. It is my hope that this book will bring you or those around you closer to being the man you always dreamed of becoming.
