Hypermobility of Joints 4th Edition follows the same format as its successful predecessors. The aim of which was to provide an overview of hyperlaxity of joints and this edition follows that aim by describing the most recent research and new developments in biochemistry, as well as providing practical advice on clinical features and management. Hypermobility of Joints 4th Edition provides illustrative case histories, a review of hypermobility in the performing arts and sports and an outline of heritable hypermobility syndromes. This book is a valuable reference tool for a wide number of specialties, although it will particularly be of interest to rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons and medical geneticists.
This third edition of Hypermobility of Joints follows the same format as its successful predecessors. The aim of those editions was to provide an overview of hyperlaxity of joints and this edition follows that aim by describing the most recent research and new developments in biochemistry as well as providing practical advice on clinical features and management. Further chapters provide illustrative case histories, a review of hypermobility in the performing arts and sports and an outline of heritable hypermobility syndromes. Hypermobility of Joints has implications for a wide number of specialties although it will particularly be of interest to rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons and medical geneticists.
Joint hypermobility, joint laxity or "double-jointedness" is no longer regarded as just a quaint clinical entity, but has gained recognition as a feature common to a heterogeneous group of generalized hereditary connective tissue disorders. This monograph examines the scientific basis, clinical features and treatment of this syndrome. The second edition has been thoroughly updated, with new contributions to cover in depth three areas in which new scientific advances have been made: biochemistry, genetics, and biomechanics. The case histories make fascinating reading, and the comprehensive coverage of the rarer hereditary disorders provides a valuable reference. From the reviews of the first edition: "This little book deals with a somewhat neglected subject and will prove useful in a number of ways." British Journal of Plastic Surgery #1 "This is a delightful book full of stimulating ideas, by three authors who have pooled their thoughts and the results of their studies." Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine #2
Provides a unique review of the major spatial aspects of transport systems, a detailed analysis of transport problems in urban and rural areas, an evaluation of social and environmental impacts, and a planning and policy overview. Divided into four parts, each considering a different aspect of transport geography. The first part outlines the basic geography of transport and examines transport and spatial structures, focusing upon the varying contributions made by transport to industrial, agricultural and urban development. Part two moves to consider specific transport systems at both national and international scales, drawing on studies from industrialised and developing nations and discussing the effects upon transport of the political changes in the former USSR and Eastern Europe. The third part examines some of the many problems of transport and urban and rural areas using specific examples to illustrate the contrasting difficulties and evaluate current urban transportation planning methods.
Using various theoretical approaches, this book examines industrial relations, workers' compensation, occupational health, employment standards, training, and social assistance, measuring the impact of partisanship and globalization on policy-making in several areas. It is useful for those interested in the field of labour market policy.

The rise of the New Right and the collapse of state communism in 1989 has fundamentally changed political thinking in the late twentieth century. Rodney Barker has revised and extended his classic text - Political Ideas in Modern Britain - in the light of these changes. His accessible account of political thinking in Britain since the 1880s now includes detailed analysis of: * the demise of traditional conservatism and socialism * the rise and decline of the New Right * the growth of feminism, liberalism and pluralism Political Ideas in Modern Britain charts the changing intellectual landscape of political thinking, illustrating how contemporary political thought is both rooted in tradition and a radical transformation of it. Whether the future is liberal, communitarian, pluralist, or simply uncertain, this is an essential guide for students of British politics. Rodney Barker is Senior Lecturer in Government at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
To many, medieval castles are the essence of Britain and Ireland's fascinating past. Immersed in history and centuries old, each one tells a story of Kings, Queens and feuding lords; war and bloody conflict; treason, revenge and murder. In Castles of Britain and Ireland, Rodney Castleden weaves a fascinating and detailed narrative of 115 of the grandest and most historically significant castles in the British Isles, including Balmoral in Scotland, Bunratty in Ireland, Caernarfon in Wales and St Michael's Mount in England. As well as the details of the construction, function, and often the destruction of these magnificent buildings, each chapter also tells the human stories behind these ancient walls, with fascinating details of everyday life within.
This book deals with the rapid changes in contemporary molecular biology, particularly genome sciences, and the manner in which they can be understood through the lens of political economy. Specifically, the work investigates the case of the United States-led Genome Project (HGP), in order to show that even large-scale basic science is closely bound up in the progression of capitalist social relations. The work has, in part, been motivated by the lack of rigorous analysis of the HGP. Most the existing literature tends to present either a chronological review of events surrounding the HGP or describe it thematically. In contrast, this book contributes to a needed discussion concerning the 'why and how' of the HGP emergence. It elucidates the features within capitalist social relations which have simultaneously enable the HGP and ensure its amenability to systemic demands. The work's most compelling elements are both historical and analytical. Historically, it places the HGP within the context of wider political, economic and social issues. Related to this, it puts forward an analytical, explanatory understanding of the project's emergence, making it a valuable tool for both political economists, science & society theorists, and even bioethicists.
The cost of unsuccessful web projects runs into many millions; intranets that don't deliver, websites that customers won't use. Sometimes the problem is technological, but at other times, the project team has failed to understand some of the basic human dynamics involved, or have used processes that are inappropriate. Managing Web Projects describes how to manage a successful web-delivery project. Running throughout is a case study (based on a real occurrence) that is developed chapter by chapter to demonstrate project management concepts in the context of a web-delivery project. The book is illustrated throughout by examples, also drawn from actual cases of web-delivery projects. An appendix provides essential planning forms described in the book as well as the forms for the case study project running throughout.
Using the cosmos as a backdrop, Rodney Cotterill delivers a fascinating journey of Nature's materials, from the atom to the living organism. This is a beautifully illustrated, expanded account of the highly praised Cambridge Guide to the Material World. The author seamlessly blends the physics, chemistry and biology of Nature, portraying matter with all its elegance and flaws. Although the book is divided into material types, the author connects concepts and pinpoints commonalities between the inorganic and organic domains. It challenges the reader to question our structured view of the world and whether this limits our scientific endeavour, aptly demonstrated by the new chapter devoted exclusively to the mind. Through the breadth of topics and engaging prose, this book will act as a superb introduction to material science for students and those intrigued by the material world we live in.
