His heirs donated the island as a perpetual bird sanctuary, and it now hosts some 45 species of exotic birds. The Birds of Paradise did not survive a hurricane in 1963. However, they continue to thrive in native New Guinea. The author, shown here on the island, (also called Little Tobago) Roy Schenkenberger (pen name Robin Kreutznaer) resides with his wife in beautiful Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and winters in Southern California. He is an honors graduate of Harvard College, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
