Richmond County wills are extant only from 1699, but the compiler of this useful work has bridged the gap by substituting information from Order Books, 1692-1699, thereby extending the possibilities for genealogical enquiry. The entries, which consist mainly of abstracts of wills and inventories and refer to about 8,000 persons, are arranged throughout the work in chronological order.

Most of the content is from documents mostly in the County Suffolk, England area and the book begins with the history of this PAGE line in Normandy, France area around the year 900 to the arrival of PAGE Family C in Virginia in the middle 1600s. He published CAROLINA PAGEs in 1990 which was about his PAGE line that arrived in Virginia in middle 1600s as they moved to North Carolina, then South Carolina, then Georgia, then Florida where he was born. Since DNA arrived on the scene in early 2000, much of the paper trail has been verified. DNA has provided about 15 different PAGE lines and around 44 individuals most of which have the surname PAGE in the PAGE Line C. Photographs are provided of the many English houses that the PAGE family lived in beginning in early 1400 to date.

In 1763, King George III's government adopted a secret policy to reduce the American colonies to "due subordinance" and exploit them. This brought on the American Revolution. In Virginia, there was virtually unanimous agreement that Britain's actions violated Virginia's constitutional rights. Yet Virginians were deeply divided as to a remedy. Peyton Randolph, Speaker of the House of Burgesses 1766-1775 (and chairman of the First and Second Continental Congresses), worked to unify the colony, keeping the conservatives from moving too slowly and the radicals from moving too swiftly. Virginia was thus the only major colony to enter the Revolution united. Randolph was a masterful politician who produced majorities for critical votes leading to revolution.

It is predawn as a young boy and girl sit on a hillside, awaiting the sun’s first rays to expose an outcrop of granite that, from a distance, resembles the profile of a man. The outcrop has been called for centuries the Old Man of the Mountain, or the Great Stone Face. (Note: For centuries, it has been a prophecy by local Indian tribes that a great man would appear some day with the same profile.) The young girl, Becky, believes the prophecy to be that if a young girl first sees the profile at dawn on the first day of summer, she will, in time, marry the Great Man when he arrives. Along for support, the little boy, Ernest, is pulling for himself as the eventual person whom Becky weds. Five years pass, and the first of three possible candidates to fulfill Becky’s prophecy appears. It is Mr. Midas Gathergold, the world’s richest man, but unscrupulous business deals send him running. It is Stonham “Stony” Phiz, the nation’s most popular politician, but waffling on issues and womanizing sends him running too. Becky is, once more, disappointed. By the time yet another five years pass, Ernest, through his reading and wisdom becomes widely known as a noted philosopher. Among his favorite authors is Walden Wordsworth, a sagacious poet. Since Wordsworth has an equal appreciation of Ernest’s beliefs, he decides to visit Ernest. The two meet, share ideas, and their mutual admiration of each other grows. Ernest informs Becky that her prophecy will no doubt come true tonight as he intends to make the announcement to the town that the poet is indeed the Great Man. Becky smiles knowingly. At the meeting, as he introduces the poet as the Great Man, the poet says, “Townspeople, can’t you all see? I am not the Great Man. Ernest is.” The town explodes into shock.

For believers and skeptics alike, Wordsworth's poetry offered a readily accessible and intellectually respectable counterweight to Darwin's vision of a material universe evolving by fixed laws in which Divinity played no discernible role and where concepts like beauty and harmony were material conditions to be explained in scientific terms. Wordsworth's theology of nature became for many readers a more effective counterforce to Darwin's ideas than Biblical orthodoxy, but it also provided an enriching context for the reception of evolutionary theory, aiding theists in their effort to reach an accommodation with the new science. As the nineteenth century's two most prominent theoreticians of nature's life, Wordsworth and Darwin competed for attention among those seeking to understand humanity's relationship with the natural world, and their disciples engaged in a productive, mutually transformative dialogue in which the poet's cultural authority influenced the way Darwin was received, and Darwinian science adjusted interpretation and evaluation of the poetry.
