Schizophrenia is a devastating disorder that starts in early life and can lead to lifelong disability. It is a major public health challenge for all cultures and all countries. Clinical practice must therefore focus on early intervention, optimal treatment, shared decision-making and long-term recovery. "By listening to patients' experiences, alongside the latest research, we now know much more about 'what works'," say the authors of this fully updated fourth edition of 'Fast Facts: Schizophrenia'. In this highly readable resource, they cover the present state of knowledge about the neurobiology, diagnosis and treatment of schizophrenia, including: • emerging evidence from genome-wide association studies for multiple susceptibility genes • DSM-5 diagnostic criteria plus discussion of alternative classification systems • a comprehensive review of drug and non-drug treatment strategies and how to improve adherence • a new management principles chapter that emphasizes the importance of coordinated multidisciplinary care • the latest findings of structural and functional imaging studies. With good care delivered by knowledgeable compassionate health professionals, many people will recover at least partially from their first episode of psychosis and live a fulfilling life. Written from an international perspective, 'Fast Facts: Schizophrenia' will refresh and update family physicians, psychiatrists in training, mental health nurses and medical students - in fact, all health professionals - who need to know about the disorder and need to know it quickly. Contents: • A brief history • Symptoms and diagnosis • Epidemiology: risk factors and outcome • Genetics • Developmental theories and environmental factors • Neuroanatomy and structural imaging • Neuropsychology and functional imaging • Neurochemistry • Management principles • Pharmacological treatment • Psychosocial interventions and non-drug treatment • Early intervention and prevention • Useful resources
Nobody wants to shell out a lot of money for something they'll use once or, with any luck, never. But that's where most corporations find themselves today. Network managers see disaster recovery as outside their jurisdiction, and therefore as a competitor for system resources. External incentives to deploy disaster recovery from customers and partners may be pressing, but internal incentives are working against them. This book provides a methodology responsive to those problems. With careful planning, it can actually improve system performance instead of encumbering it. Even if your organization isn't budgeted for disaster recovery planning, you can implement this methodology now, at minimum cost, and reap immediate returns. For companies already invested in system protection software, Buchanan shows network managers how to get started on impact and risk assessment, protection planning, policymaking, and more.
This monograph length report, first published in 1970, originated from a program of research at Resources for the Future that dealt with the management of residuals and of environmental quality. It presents some of the broad concepts that the program was based on and represents the effort to break out of the traditional approach in pollution and policy research, which had treated air, water, and solid waste problems as separate categories. This book will be of interest to students of economics and environmental studies.
DELIVER HIGH PERFORMANCE AND AVAILABILITY BY OPTIMIZING RESOURCES Beyond implementation and configuration, there's tuning. If only it were a matter of watching the needle 'til it hits the right spot on the dial! But it isn't and that's why you'll be glad expert Bob Buchanan shares his tuning skills in this 1-2-3 tutorial. Reducing a daunting task to a fine -- but doable -- art, Buchanan shows you his proven methodology for guaranteeing optimal performance. Tuning Microsoft Server Clusters exposes the nuts and bolts of cluster and end-to-end system optimization. A CLUSTER IS ONLY AS GOOD AS ITS CONFIGURATION Tuning Microsoft Server Clusters gives you: * An approach that puts optimization in real-life business and technical context * A proven methodology that shows you how to get more performance and availability without buying more software or hardware * Step-by-step instructions that go beyond monitoring and management into proactive analysis for cluster and end-to-end system optimization * Working techniques that identify bottlenecks; unmask degraded configurations; verify reliability and availability; calculate capacity needs; and help you pinpoint needed improvements * Illustrated examples of solutions that are integrated into your system's operation * The best way to optimize highly redundant systems * Tried-and-tested techniques (over 30,000 hours of experience) for locking in benefits in performance, reliability, and maintainability DON’T JUST BUILD IT AND MANAGE IT -- MAKE IT EARN ITS KEEP!
The Samaritan Pentateuch (SP) is the sacred scripture of the Samaritans, a tenacious religious community made famous by Jesus’ Good Samaritan story that persists to this day. Not so widely known is the impact of the SP outside the Samaritan community. Recently there has been a resurgence of interest in this scripture, as evidenced by several translations of the SP as well as reference in Qumran scroll studies to the SP or an SP-like tradition in an effort to describe some of the textual evidence present in the scrolls. This volume presents a general introduction to and overview of the SP, suitable for a course text and as a reference tool for the professional scholar.
