Much of that which is ordinal is modeled as analog. Most computational engines on the other hand are dig- ital. Transforming from analog to digital is straightforward: we simply sample. Regaining the original signal from these samples or assessing the information lost in the sampling process are the fundamental questions addressed by sampling and interpolation theory. This book deals with understanding, generalizing, and extending the cardinal series of Shannon sampling theory. The fundamental form of this series states, remarkably, that a bandlimited signal is uniquely specified by its sufficiently close equally spaced samples. The contents of this book evolved from a set of lecture notes prepared for a graduate survey course on Shannon sampling and interpolation theory. The course was taught at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle. Each of the seven chapters in this book includes a list of references specific to that chapter. A sequel to this book will contain an extensive bibliography on the subject. The author has also opted to include solutions to selected exercises in the Appendix.

Cravath in the 1890s, it developed the organizational model based on a large staff of associates, partners and clerical helpers that continues to dominate the modern urban law firm. Swaine [1886-1949], then a principal partner, drew heavily on the Cravath archives in the preparation of this work. The most extensive history of the firm, it is enhanced by Swaine's personal perspective. (He joined Cravath in 1910). The final volume lists biographical data for every associate and partner from 1899 to 1948.

The book examines this relationship, concluding that psychoanalysis can contribute to a science of the mind when it flows into a more effective science and technology such as cognitive science. As viewed by the authors, cognitive science is "a new, lively field, full of novel concepts and methods about the mind." This is sharply contrasted with their opinion of psychoanalysis as a discipline which must change and consider such important problems in the study of the mind such as fantasies and feelings. The designers of these training media are continually striving to provide maximum training effectiveness at minimum cost. Although literature is available on the implementation and use of specific training media, there is little guidance on a major feature that is central to these media. All of these media present the learner with an interactive simulation of the real world. Effective training system design can be facilitated if the requirements of the real-world task are properly included in training. A conceptual bridge is necessary to link these actual task requirements to the characteristics of the training system. This book provides such a conceptual bridge.
