This book examines the reconstruction of the British economy in the aftermath of the First World War up until the break of the second. Using a wide range of primary sources, the author presents an account which integrates the economic, political and diplomatic events of the period.
The Derivatives Sourcebook is a citation study and classification system that organizes the many strands of the derivatives literature and assigns each citation to a category. Over 1800 research articles are collected and organized into a simple web-based searchable database. We have also included the 1997 Nobel lectures of Robert Merton and Myron Scholes as a backdrop to this literature.

The voice is a central part of identity, connection, and communication. As such, the psychological effects of a voice disorder, especially for individuals who use their voices professionally, can be profound and wide-reaching. The second edition of Psychology of Voice Disorders is a guide for healthcare professionals who care for patients dealing with vocal issues, including mental health professionals, speech-language pathologists, physicians, and other members of the medical team. Psychology of Voice Disorders was the first book to offer insights into the psychology of patients with voice disorders, including the interaction between the disorder, treatment, and patient self-esteem. The revised edition builds on the features of the original to provide comprehensive support for professionals treating voice disorders. New to the Second Edition • New coauthor, Johnathan Brandon Sataloff, MD • Three new chapters: o Research Approaches in the Intersection of Voice Disorders and Psychology o Psychiatric Manifestations of Medications Prescribed Commonly in Otolaryngology o Trauma in Voice • A completely rewritten chapter on psychoactive medications and their effects on the voice, providing the most comprehensive overview of the topic available • Updated information on psychological assessment for patients with voice disorders • Revised and expanded chapters covering common medical diagnoses, comorbid psychopathology, special considerations for voice professionals, and psychogenic dysphonia • Added materials on current approaches to assessment and treatment
A Spin-Echo Small Angle Scattering (SESANS) instrument is capable of studying samples containing large inhomogeneities, large in a sense that they extend across the mesoscopic and microscopic domains. Thus, being applicable to samples of polymers, colloids, dairy products, powders, clays, etc. All of this in a simple and more direct way than existing small-angle neutron-scattering instruments. In essence, there is confidence enough to start exploring the real samples - samples that SESANS is made for. The SESANS experiments conducted and presented in this book will bring insight in the relationship between micro- and macroscopics of fine cohesive powders. The aim is to inspire for future research on samples made up of large disordered heterogeneities through discussing many of the correlation functions expected in these systems."--BOOK JACKET.
The methods of disaster research are indistinguishable from those used throughout the social sciences. Yet these methods must be applied under unique circumstances. Researchers new to this field need to understand how the disaster context affects the application of the methods of research. This volume, written by some of the worlds leading specialists in disaster research, provides for the first time a primer on disaster research methods. Among the topics covered are qualitative field studies and survey research; underutilized approaches such as cross-national studies, simulations, and historical methods; and newer tools utilizing geographic information systems, the Internet, and economic modeling.
This volume reviews, in the context of partial differential equations, algorithm development that has been specifically aimed at computers that exhibit some form of parallelism. Emphasis is on the solution of PDEs because these are typically the problems that generate high computational demands. The authors discuss architectural features of these computers insomuch as they influence algorithm performance, and provide insight into algorithm characteristics that allow effective use of hardware.
New textbooks at all levels of chemistry appear with great regularity. Some fields like basic biochemistry, organic reaction mechanisms, and chemical thermody namics are well represented by many excellent texts, and new or revised editions are published sufficiently often to keep up with progress in research. However, some areas of chemistry, especially many of those taught at the graduate level, suffer from a real lack of up-to-date textbooks. The most serious needs occur in fields that are rapidly changing. Textbooks in these subjects usually have to be written by scientists actually involved in the research which is advancing the field. It is not often easy to persuade such individuals to set time aside to help spread the knowledge they have accumulated. Our goal, in this series, is to pinpoint areas of chemistry where recent progress has outpaced what is covered in any available textbooks, and then seek out and persuade experts in these fields to produce relatively concise but instructive introductions to their fields. These should serve the needs of one semester or one quarter graduate courses in chemistry and biochemistry. In some cases, the availability of texts in active research areas should help stimulate the creation of new courses.
Each year, millions of people are internally displaced and resettled in the wake of wars and floods or to make way for large-scale development projects, and this number is increasing. Humanitarian and development specialists continue to struggle with designing and executing effective protection strategies and durable solutions. Relocation Failures explains how internal displacement and efforts to engineer resettlement are conceived and practiced by policy makers and practitioners. The author argues that policies for internally displaced peoples are weak and diluted by narrow interpretations of state sovereignty and collective action dilemmas, and in the case of Sri Lanka, unintentionally intensified ethnic segregation and ultimately war. This unique new book considers the origins and parameters of internal displacement and resettlement policy and practice and proposes an explanation for why it often fails. In highlighting the ways that development assistance can exacerbate smoldering conflicts, the volume provides an important caution to the aid community.
This series of volumes on the OC Frontiers of Computational Fluid DynamicsOCO was introduced to honor contributors who have made a major impact on the field. The first volume was published in 1994 and was dedicated to Prof Antony Jameson; the second was published in 1998 and was dedicated to Prof Earl Murman. The volume is dedicated to Prof Robert MacCormack. The twenty-six chapters in the current volume have been written by leading researchers from academia, government laboratories, and industry. They present up-to-date descriptions of recent developments in techniques for numerical analysis of fluid flow problems, and applications of these techniques to important problems in industry, as well as the classic paper that introduced the OC MacCormack schemeOCO to the world.
